"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 233: Challenging the Yamai Sisters—The Rescue Plan Begins
Shuo lounged on his beach chair, watching as the girls slowly recovered from their sunscreen-induced "defeat." With nothing pressing on his mind, he decided a swim in the ocean sounded perfect.
After all, he'd slathered everyone with enough sunscreen to last the day—no need to worry about sunburn.
By midday, the sun was blazing overhead. Shuo, freshly cooled from his swim, strolled back toward the villa. From a distance, he saw the girls—once collapsed in the sand—rising one after another, stretching and chattering as if nothing had happened.
He headed inside to whip up lunch.
It didn't take long. One by one, fragrant dishes emerged from Shuo's hands, each more mouthwatering than the last. The enormous dining table was soon overflowing with food.
The living room filled with the irresistible aroma. The girls, stomachs rumbling, gazed at the feast with wide eyes and unconcealed hunger.
With Shuo's culinary skills, every meal was a minor miracle—no one ever got tired of his cooking.
"All right, everything's ready. Dig in, everyone!"
As he set down the last dish, chopsticks snapped into action.
"Tohka, don't hog it all—remember, there's enough for everyone."
"Oh… right."
After lunch, the group took a quick break before heading back to the beach. It was a rare school trip by the sea—of course they wanted to make the most of it.
Shuo, on the other hand, had his own plans. Reclining under an umbrella, ice-cold drink in hand, he watched the girls' laughter and sunlit silhouettes. The way they moved—their energy, their youth—was its own kind of spectacle.
He found himself idly comparing figures, a playful smirk on his lips.
"Let's see… that's a B, this one's more like an A… Oh, impressive—definitely a D…"
Footsteps approached, breaking his reverie.
He turned. Kurumi was gliding over, clad in a qipao-style swimsuit, each step elegant and measured.
"Well, if it isn't Kurumi. Not joining the fun? Or did you come looking for me?"
He greeted her with a warm smile.
"Ara, ara. So in Shuo-chan's eyes, I need a reason to come see you? Even I have my limits, you know."
She sat beside him, feigning a pout, though her eyes sparkled with mischief.
He played along, reaching out to wrap an arm around her slender waist.
"How could I ever complain? I'm always happy when you're around."
Kurumi didn't resist. Instead, she leaned in, her smile turning sly.
"Careful, Shuo-chan. People might say you're taking advantage of me."
He grinned.
"We're family now, aren't we? What's a little closeness between us?"
She rolled her eyes, but there was affection in the gesture. She knew his shamelessness all too well—after all, the first time his calm voice had asked about the color of her panties beneath those black stockings, she'd realized just how little shame he possessed.
Still, today, she had something genuine on her mind.
Her gaze drifted to the ocean, where Kaguya and Yuzuru were racing each other in the waves. A small frown creased her brow.
"Shuo-chan, do you really think… one of the Yamai sisters has to disappear forever?"
The question caught him off guard. He followed her gaze, watching the twins splash and compete, then answered quietly.
"Yamai Kazamachi was originally one person. She had a twin who died before birth. Later, Kazamachi herself died saving a child, and Mio Takamiya gave her a Sephira Crystal."
He paused, choosing his words with care.
"But inside her were two sets of genes—her own, and her unborn sister's. The crystal's power split them into two people: Kaguya and Yuzuru."
Kurumi listened, her expression softening with sadness.
"That's… such a tragic story."
Shuo reached out, ruffling her hair with a gentle smile.
"What's wrong? My Lady Kurumi, getting sentimental?"
He winked.
"Don't worry. I won't let either of them disappear. Besides, for all their fighting, they actually want the other to survive. They're just too proud to admit it."
"Really…?" Kurumi's disbelief faded into a bittersweet smile.
So this is what they call 'loving through conflict,' she thought.
"Heh. If they're both too stubborn to say what they feel, maybe it's time someone else broke the stalemate."
With that, Shuo stood and headed for the shore.
Kurumi watched him go, a smile tugging at her lips.
"Good luck, Shuo-chan. Just like you saved Sawa and me—save those twins too."
—
Shuo didn't go straight to the twins. Instead, he found Tohka and Origami, quickly explaining the truth behind Kaguya and Yuzuru—their origins, their rivalry, and the looming threat to one of their existences.
Tohka's eyes went wide. Even Origami frowned, concern flickering across her usually calm face.
"So… one of them really has to disappear?"
Shuo nodded.
"I want them to face their feelings honestly. But I'll need your help. Will you do it?"
Tohka and Origami exchanged a glance, then nodded in unison.
"I'm in!"
"Count me in as well."
Shuo outlined his plan, rapid-fire, as the two listened intently. By the end, both were smiling, ready for action.
—
A few minutes later, they found Kaguya and Yuzuru, who were still catching their breath from their swim.
"What? You want to challenge us—the so-called Children of the Hurricane?" Kaguya asked, eyes wide.
"Surprise: Yuzuru is somewhat shocked."
Tohka lifted her chin, grinning with confidence.
"That's right! Do you dare accept our challenge?"
Kaguya scoffed, fire in her eyes.
"Hmph! Bring it on! I win at everything anyway."
Yuzuru nodded, deadpan.
"Accepted. Victory will belong to Yuzuru."
The rescue plan had officially begun.
