Just as Shuo was basking in his mischievous triumph, an outraged voice exploded behind him.
"You pervert! What do you think you're doing?!"
He spun around. Kotori stood there, her signature red twin-tails flaring as if caught in a storm, a squad of girls trailing behind her. Her glare was pure disdain, eyes narrowed as if she'd caught him red-handed.
"What did you do to them, you creep?!"
Shuo hesitated, but Kotori's jealousy was unmistakable.
"Uh… Nothing! I was just helping Kaguya and Yuzuru with sunscreen, that's all."
He shrugged, trying for innocence. But Kotori wasn't buying it for a second.
She glanced at the twins—both sprawled, blissed out, barely able to move. Her scowl deepened.
"Sunscreen? Do you think I'm a toddler? If this was just sunscreen, why are they like… that? This is obviously—well, you know!"
She was sixteen, and as Fraxinus's commander, she'd seen enough to know when things weren't what they seemed. Still, the sight of two Spirits collapsed on the sand was more than a little suspicious.
Shuo could practically hear her thoughts. His mouth twitched.
Is that really how she sees me? No matter how desperate I get, I wouldn't pull something like that on the beach, with half the crew watching!
He shot her a challenging look.
"I really was just applying sunscreen. If you don't believe me, Kotori, why don't you try it yourself?"
He gestured to the empty spot beside him, eyes daring her.
Kotori bristled, cheeks flushed with a mix of defiance and curiosity.
"Fine! Go ahead. Let's see if sunscreen can really do… whatever that is!"
She flopped down, face-first on the sand, determined to prove him wrong.
Shuo grinned, warming a dollop of lotion between his hands before gently massaging it into her back. At first, Kotori only felt a mild embarrassment—until Shuo channeled a hint of magic into his touch.
"Huh? Wait, what…?"
Before she could finish, he ramped up the magic. Within seconds, Kotori melted into the sand, just as limp and blissed out as the twins.
Shuo's smirk was pure villain. Even Commander Mode Kotori, with all her stubborn pride, had fallen.
He leaned over, victorious.
"So, Kotori—believe me now?"
Kotori glared up at him, teeth grinding in silent defeat. She knew exactly who was responsible for that strange sensation, but right now, she couldn't even muster the strength to retort—just a stubborn, smoldering look.
Kurumi, Shiori, and the others watched, faces contorted in a mix of awe and disbelief.
Suddenly, Origami stepped forward, holding out a bottle with a look that could melt steel.
"Shuo, please help me with sunscreen too."
Tohka, not to be outdone, jumped up.
"What? Shuo, I want you to do mine too—whatever that lotion is!"
Kurumi chimed in with a sly smile.
"Ara ara, I can't pretend not to notice. Shuo-chan, help Sawa and me as well!"
Sawa blushed, protesting weakly.
"Eh? Kurumi, isn't this a little… much?"
Shuo blinked, then grinned.
You're all volunteering? Don't mind if I do.
"Don't worry. I'll make sure every inch is covered—no spot left behind."
His teasing tone drew a chorus of blushes. One by one, he worked his "magic," leaving a trail of beautiful girls collapsed on the sand, all blissfully defeated.
Achievement unlocked—Penta Kill!
He turned to spot two more: Shiori and Mana.
"Shiori, want me to help with sunscreen too?"
"N-no, that's okay…"
"It's fine, really."
"Um…"
Before he could continue, Mana stepped in, voice fierce.
"Don't you dare touch Shiori-sama! If you want someone, come at me!"
Shuo couldn't help but smile.
So protective, Mana. Guess you're next.
A few moments later, both sisters joined the ranks of the sun-struck, sprawled on the sand.
By now, only Nia and Yoshino remained safe inside the villa. Everyone else—wiped out.
Shuo surveyed the line of girls, all limp and content, and let out a long, theatrical sigh.
Loneliness, he thought, is a snowstorm on a sunny beach.
