Chapter 10 - Chapter 9- Children of Demon Killers

Philip, Kent, Captain Chez, his five fishermen, the three retired army soldiers, and many other volunteers went to the bar. They met another five fishermen, five police, the bar's owner, the bar's cook, a historian, and two biologists from the mall's museum. The five fishermen from the sporting goods store brought boxes of fishing nets, strong ropes, a fishing harpoon, and metal baseball bats.

The captain divided those groups into two groups and called them the fishermen and the prison guards. Captain Chez led the fishermen's team, and the five police and three retired army soldiers oversaw the prison guards' team. Most of the prison guards helped to remove the boxes to make a pathway, so they rested and thought of a plan to hold these criminals in a bar. They removed the tables and chairs beside the wall and brought ropes. They used fishing harpoons and baseball bats to deter criminals from running away.

While the prison guard prepared for the criminals, Captain Chez and his team were upstairs on the second floor. He described their plan to the restaurant manager and the people who made the path between stores.

"Use this window," the restaurant manager said, pointing at a window.

"Why?" a fisherman asked.

"This is the closest window to the fountain. It is hot, so I assume the criminals want to refresh themselves," the restaurant manager said.

"Smart man, honor me with your name," Captain Chez said. "Tom," the manager said.

"You are a good man." Captain Chez shook Tom's hand. "You and the others worked so hard. Go downstairs, rest, and eat. We need hardworking men and women who are energized for future needs. I ordered food for a hundred people. Go eat it and give it to whoever needs it."

"We need to clear this pathway first. We will probably be here for fifteen more minutes," Tom said.

Tom stood next to ten divers when one of them told him, "Lily's has our catering food too."

The fishermen's group wanted to experiment and practice their idea. Tom gave them the best location: a seating area between Jorden's Craft Store and Sophi's Boutique. The fishermen thanked Tom for the ideal practice place.

The seating area had sofas and a restroom for customer use. The area had two heights; the tallest reached the mall's roof, and the other was as short as the first floor. The second floor had a window that opened to the seating area.

The captain asked Philip and Kent to get a notebook and a pen. Lucky for them, the scientists and historians had them in their bags. The captain picked three fishermen with different body weights as volunteers. He described his plan in more detail.

"My idea is those three men will pretend to be Payara gang members." Captain Chez addressed the three volunteers. "I want you to try to foil all our plans. I want you to struggle out of those nets. You can use those knives to cut the net rope. Your job is to make us fail. Go to the first floor. We'll try to make it work."

The three men went downstairs to pretend to be members of the Payara Fangs gang. Captain Chez looked at Philip and Kent and said, "Your task now is to be the recordkeepers. One of you will be my data keeper."

Kent took the notebook and pen. Chez continued, looking at Philip, "You will use your cell phone as the stopwatch."

"To my crew and fellow fishermen," Captain Chez said to twelve fishermen and three museum scholars. "First, we want to make sure the net will not break. Second, we want to measure the time. Third, throwing the net on them is better, or they will walk on it. Fourth, we try to make it work."

They started the experiment and practiced their idea. Philip and Kent went first. They looked at the fishermen with admiration. They observed ancient skills in a new way. The fishermen minimized their society to solve their dilemma; they tested, observed, measured, and took data better than those scientists in the laboratory. Those two boys' faces had been shoved in science books for as long as they could remember. With many failures and successes, the fishermen's team found a way to capture criminals.

At Ray's Sporting Goods, Derek, Symone, Simon, George, and Eric entered to collect the items the restaurant needed. Derek and others walked around, but the sports store was empty. Most of the consumers worked on the second floor, and kids played basketball together in the corner of the store. Fearful mothers sat on the floor, chatting together, and their eyes on their children. There were three workers at the cashier to prevent theft.

Derek found fishing knives, goggles, helmets, and foam materials to protect the people from the gang's weapons. Symone and Simon followed Derek, who was rolling two shopping carts. George was helping them.

While Derek and others looked for more items to use, Eric spotted a tower from the top of the window. The mall's tower looked similar to a lighthouse. He wanted to go to the tower to get a better view of the criminals. He asked the cashier, "Can anyone go to the tower?"

"Yes, you can," answered an employee wearing a tag with the name Roman.

Derek shouted at Eric from afar, "You must go up with someone. Safety in numbers."

"Okay… Okay, I will," agreed Eric.

"Yes, I don't mind taking you there," Roman said.

Roman brought a man in his late thirties and introduced him- self as Daniel, the manager. He was sweaty and tired, and his clothes looked messy; however, he wore a fashionable buttoned shirt and black pants.

Eric and Derek explained that Kaia had brought them there, and Roman had wanted to go with Eric. Daniel allowed Roman to leave with Eric to go to the tower. Derek, Simon, Symone, and George took the items to other stores.

At 12:15 p.m., Derek, Symone, Simon, and George pushed carts of many items to Lily's and other stores.

Symone said, "Derek, you are the best shooter in the Blue City. Simon and I are the best shooters in the junior league. We have twenty-seven police officers, and God knows who else in the building knows how to shoot."

Simon said, "You mean we should look for guns."

Derek said, "We should ask people who have guns. Sometimes, people carry small guns with them. It will not hurt to ask. We will be fine. The Payara only have cold weapons. We still have the upper hand."

"What are cold weapons?" George asked.

"Knives, baseball bats, sticks," Derek answered. "Anything that is not a firearm."

"I don't feel they are Payara. They are worse," Simon said.
