Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Raiding HYDRA’s Stash

Chapter 6: Raiding HYDRA's Stash

[Hell's Kitchen Outskirts, Morning – 2014]

The warehouse stood like a metal tomb in the early morning light, its grimy facade a monument to neglect and clandestine activity. A faint, low hum emanated from within, a telltale sign of the illicit tech Anya had sniffed out. Adam, perched on a rusted fire escape across the street, felt the familiar surge of plasma crackle beneath his skin. It was his fifth time using his powers on a mission, and the feeling was already becoming second nature.

[OBJECTIVE: SECURE HYDRA TECH. CURRENT MASTERY OF PLASMA COMBAT TRAINING: 15%.]

"Huh, 15%. Not bad for a guy who just got this a few weeks ago," Adam mused, his fingers itching to cause some mischief. He pulled a small, shimmering arc of plasma from his palm, shaping it into a tiny, hot wire. He launched it toward the warehouse's motion sensors, a mischievous glint in his eye. The wire hit its mark, silently searing through the sensor's housing. A puff of smoke and a flash of sparks followed.

Anya, watching from a nearby rooftop, let out an exasperated sigh over their comm. "Don't blow us up, Stiels."

"Blow us up? Nah, this is my 'glow-up,'" Adam said, his voice a low, teasing whisper. "Just making sure the path is clear. A little bit of controlled chaos."

"Intruder alert! Perimeter breach!" a voice squawked over a walkie-talkie from a guard patrolling the grounds. Adam watched as the panicked operative, looking for a physical intruder, tripped over a patch of grass that had been silently heated by Adam's plasma residue. He yelped, a symphony of flailing limbs and spilled coffee, before collapsing in a heap.

"Heh, the classic 'trip over nothing' maneuver. Never gets old," Adam thought, suppressing a laugh.

"You're ridiculous," Anya's voice came through the comm, a hint of a smile in her tone despite her words.

"HYDRA's toys are about to be my toys. This is going to be a fun day," Adam thought, his grin widening. They moved in, Anya a silent, shadowy presence on the rooftops, Adam a shimmering, almost-silent flicker on the ground. The infiltration had begun.

[Tech Stash Interior, Afternoon – 2014]

The inside of the warehouse was a high-tech labyrinth, a jarring contrast to its derelict exterior. Lasers crisscrossed the main hallway, a veritable spiderweb of light and death. Adam walked up to a console panel, a look of focused concentration on his face.

[MASTERY OF PLASMA COMBAT TRAINING AT 20%. OBJECTIVE: SABOTAGE WEAPONS.]

"Ultron's tech? I'll fry it. Piece of cake," Adam declared, touching a plasma-charged hand to the console. The panel sizzled and popped, the lasers fizzling out one by one.

"Careful, Stiels—this stuff is dangerous," Anya said, swinging down from the rafters, her webs a blur as she took down two operatives who had just entered the room. "These look like early-model Ultron weapons. Scarily powerful."

"You're done, kid!" a third operative bellowed, raising a plasma rifle.

"Done? Buddy, I'm just getting started. I'm glowing!" Adam retorted, sending a small spark into the rifle's power source. The weapon beeped maniacally, its lights flashing like a child's toy, before it whirred and shut down. The operative stared at it in bewilderment.

"These weapons are bad news. If HYDRA gets their hands on this tech... it's a disaster waiting to happen," Adam realized, the gravity of the situation settling in. He and Anya began smashing the consoles and frying the weapons, their movements a symphony of destruction.

"Let's break 'em all," Anya said, her voice grim. The stakes were higher than just a simple raid.

"Ultron's coming. He's here, in these machines. I gotta stop it before it even begins," Adam thought, the seriousness of his mission overshadowing his playful antics for a moment.

[Stash Battle, Evening – 2014]

Their sabotage hadn't gone unnoticed. A squadron of HYDRA operatives stormed the room, their faces contorted with rage. Adam's plasma was a dazzling display of light and heat, arcing and sparking around him.

"HYDRA will rise!" one of the operatives screamed, lunging with a combat knife.

"Rise? I'm sparking you down, pal!" Adam yelled, a larger plasma bolt arcing from his hands and sending the operative flying back into a stack of crates.

Anya's webs were a masterpiece of battlefield control, entangling the legs and arms of their enemies, pinning them to the walls and floor. "Nice shots, Stiels! Keep it up!"

Just then, Matt Murdock's form appeared from the shadows, his billy club a blur as he took down two more operatives with silent efficiency. "HYDRA's deeper than just this place, kid. This is a network."

"Deeper? Man, I'm a legend already," Adam quipped, a flash of bravado returning to his face.

"He's hopeless," Anya muttered, but she was smiling. The three of them, a glowing jokester, a web-slinging acrobat, and a sightless vigilante, made for a strange but effective team.

"HYDRA is tough. But I'm tougher. We're all tougher," Adam decided, his focus absolute as he unleashed another flurry of plasma bolts, shorting out an operative's radio. The radio crackled with static, a fitting end to the fight.

[Hell's Kitchen Safehouse, Night – 2014]

Back in their safehouse, the air was thick with the scent of coffee and ozone. They had salvaged a single hard drive from the destroyed stash. Matt sat at the table, his fingers running over the drive's casing as if he could feel the data within. Anya watched with a mix of curiosity and dread.

[OBJECTIVE: TRACK ULTRON'S SOURCE. DATA ACQUIRED.]

"Ultron? I'll glow it down, piece of cake," Adam said, pouring himself a cup of coffee. He was wired, the adrenaline of the fight still coursing through him.

"Reckless as ever, but I'm in," Anya said, cracking her knuckles.

"We need a plan, Stiels. These aren't just thugs. This is part of a larger, systemic problem. HYDRA is a cancer," Matt warned, his voice grave.

"Plan smart? That's boring," Adam scoffed, though he knew Matt was right. He took the hard drive and touched it with a gentle, controlled plasma spark. The hard drive sizzled, and their laptop, connected to it, flickered. A smiley face icon appeared on the screen, a weird, digital prank from his powers.

"He's a disaster waiting to happen," Anya sighed, shaking her head.

"Ultron's rising. This is just the beginning. But I'm ready. Time to shine," Adam thought, his eyes fixed on the blinking smiley face, a smirk playing on his lips. Their next move was clear: they would track the code, they would find the source, and they would do it his way.
