Chapter 15: Shocking News
Daimon woke up to Nil sitting nearby, reading a newspaper aloud. "Seems the hero's words have spread."
Daimon frowned. "Let's keep a low profile for now."
He prepared to take Lucy out when Nil smirked, "You know I'm famous, right? I can help you rank up faster."
Daimon glanced at him and said, "Maybe if I reach your rank, I'll reconsider that test."
They took Lucy to the child care center, then Daimon brought Nil to the guild. Whispers and shocked stares followed Nil as he walked beside the mysterious man.
Nil approached the receptionist and asked for a meeting with the guild master.
In the guild master's office, Nil explained briefly, careful not to reveal Daimon's true strength. "Daimon came to investigate the cave as a quest and found me imprisoned. He freed me, gave me food, water, and clothes. I regained my strength, and before the hero arrived, we fought. I won in the end."
The guild master thanked Daimon for freeing Nil and asked if he had any wishes, as long as the guild could afford them.
Daimon surprised him by saying, "From now on, I want to be able to take any quest regardless of rank requirements."
The guild master blinked, confused but intrigued. "I can arrange that." He wrote a receipt and instructed Daimon to show it to the receptionist whenever applying for quests.
Nil stayed back for interviews and recovery while Daimon headed to the quest board. He took the mountain investigation quest and handed the receipt to the receptionist, who replied with surprise, "You're good now, sir."
Outside the guild, Daimon clenched his fist, his voice cold and steady: "Everyone's time is coming."
