Zangetsu's mind went blank for a moment. This shouldn't be happening. Why was she here?! As the wife of the Uchiha clan leader, shouldn't she be safe in the Uchiha compound back in Konoha, waiting for her husband's triumphant return? Why was she on the battlefield against the Land of Water? It didn't make sense.
He couldn't figure it out. It wasn't his fault; from Zangetsu's perspective as a transmigrator, he knew that the Third Great Ninja War would end in Konoha's victory. The Mist, Stone, and Cloud were all destined to fail. So, Konoha had no real reason to panic.
But from Konoha's perspective—from Sarutobi Hiruzen's perspective—how could they not panic?
This wasn't a one-on-one war. It wasn't even a one-on-two war. It was a one-on-three war, a battle for Konoha's very survival. So, Konoha had mobilized every possible force. Even the new generation of young ninja, the future pillars of the village, had been sent to the battlefield. Why else would they have lowered the difficulty of the Chunin Exams and promoted a group of twelve and thirteen-year-olds if not out of sheer desperation?
And if the future of the village had been sent to war, then it wasn't so strange for Uchiha Mikoto, a Jonin-level ninja, to appear on the battlefield as well.
Zangetsu just hadn't considered it from their point of view. But he didn't dwell on it. Since the system had confirmed it, the woman before him was Uchiha Mikoto herself.
Therefore… Zangetsu stopped. He wasn't going to leave.
The opportunity before him was simply too rare.
He had already given up on Mikoto. The idea of sneaking into Konoha and romancing the Uchiha clan leader's wife right under their noses was impossible. But now, she was right here, in front of him.
Zangetsu was fiercely tempted. This was the Sharingan!
Even though the 41-60% reward was a random ability, and there was no guarantee he would get her Sharingan, there was also no guarantee that he wouldn't.

"You bastard!" Watching Oishi lying in a pool of his own blood with a kunai in his heart, Mikoto was consumed by fury, her eyes fixed on Zangetsu. Oishi had been on missions with her before; she had always seen him as an older brother figure. Now, he had died right before her eyes, and the killer was the boy in front of her.
As Zangetsu stared back at the enraged Mikoto, wondering how to seize this chance to gamble for her Sharingan, a sudden chill ran down his spine. Without thinking, he moved.

Looking at his sleeve, now torn and stained with blood, Zangetsu felt a cold dread.
"What terrifying genjutsu," he said aloud. "The Uchiha clan's Sharingan truly lives up to its name."
When their eyes had met, Mikoto had caught him in a genjutsu. If not for his own Jonin-level skill in genjutsu and the instinctive reaction that allowed him to snap out of it at the last second, it wouldn't have been just his sleeve that was torn.
However, the truth was, even if he hadn't broken the genjutsu, he would have been unharmed. His body would have instinctively used the Hydrification Technique to nullify the attack. He had spent nearly a decade perfecting the skill to the point where it was almost as reflexive as Obito's Kamui, allowing him to turn to water the instant an attack connected. The only difference was that his technique only worked against physical attacks, not ninjutsu. A lightning-style jutsu would turn him into jelly, completely neutralizing him.
So why did he allow himself to be injured? It was to feed Mikoto's team false information.
Knowing she was here, he was 90% sure that the three ninja with her were also Uchiha Jonin. Such an escort was fitting for the clan leader's wife. With Mikoto, that made four Uchiha with three-tomoe Sharingan. If not for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he would have already fled. Staying here was too dangerous. The four of them working together could definitely kill him.
But Zangetsu still wanted to take the gamble.
He might seem cautious, wanting only to slack off during the war. But deep down, Zangetsu was a bit of a madman. Otherwise, he never would have come up with such an audacious plan for Tsunade.
And now, he wanted to bet it all.
Looking at the beautiful Uchiha Mikoto, Zangetsu couldn't help but lick his lips.
