Chapter 6 - Things must end

As he stood over the abyss, he noticed his legs were shaking, threatening to give out beneath him. It was a strange sensation, as if his body was reacting to the situation without his conscious control. He hadn't felt like he'd been standing there for an excessively long time, but the fear and uncertainty were taking their toll. He also couldn't help but think about how he hadn't felt any real sense of exhaustion up until this point. It was as if his body had been adapting to the strange circumstances, but now it was reaching its limit.

He crouched down, supporting his legs with his arms, and took a deep breath. Each second that passed seemed to stretch out into an eternity, and he felt his fear of heights growing with every passing moment. Time lost all meaning as he crouched there, unsure of how long he'd been standing on the platform. Seconds, minutes, years - it all blended together in a never-ending blur.

The agony of uncertainty was crushing him, and he felt like he'd reached the limit of his mental capacity. He'd felt what felt like years passing as he stayed on the platform, his mind reeling with fear and desperation. His eyes slipped closed, and in a moment of desperation, he jumped off the platform, plummeting into the void below. He accepted his fate, letting go of all hope and surrendering to the unknown. The rush of wind and the sensation of weightlessness enveloped him as he fell, and he felt a strange sense of freedom, as if he'd finally let go of the burden of uncertainty.

As he opened his eyes, he realized that he hadn't hit the ground or ceased to exist. Instead, he was still falling, plummeting through the same pattern over and over. The buildings seemed to be stuck in an infinite loop, with the same structures repeating themselves endlessly. He saw the same patterns, the same shapes, the same everything, and it was driving him mad.

He tried to propel himself into a better position, hoping to lunge towards a building or find some way out of this never-ending fall. But every time he thought he was making progress, he found himself right back where he started. The loop was relentless, and he was trapped in it.

As he fell, he quickly figured out that it wasn't a complex loop, but rather a simple repetition of the same exact thing happening again and again. This realization made his situation even grimmer. He was stuck in a never-ending cycle, with no escape or respite.

In a moment of resignation, he gave in to the endless fall and relaxed his body, letting himself succumb to the repetition. He stopped trying to fight it, stopped trying to find a way out. He just fell, surrendering to the loop, and letting the monotony of it all wash over him. The repetition became his reality, and he was trapped in it, forever falling, forever looping.

The time he spent in the loop was immeasurable, an endless expanse of falling and repetition that seemed to stretch on for decades. He slipped in and out of consciousness, his mind numbed by the monotony of it all. His thoughts were a jumbled mess, his memories blurring together as he fell. He lost all sense of time, unable to distinguish between seconds, minutes, or hours. The repetition was suffocating, crushing him beneath its relentless weight.

Just as he thought he couldn't take it anymore, he looked up and saw something flying towards him. Its wings were spread wide, a leathery membrane that seemed to ripple and flex as it moved. The creature's body was long and sinuous, its eyes fixed intently on him as it swooped down. He felt a jolt of fear as he realized he was being hunted, and his instincts kicked in.

With each new repetition, the creature seemed to be getting closer, its wings beating steadily as it gained on him. He tried diving, trying to accelerate his fall and escape the creature's notice. But no matter how fast he fell, the creature was always gaining on him. He twisted and turned, trying to shake it off, but it was relentless.

Fear engulfed him, and he started screaming, his screams echoing through the abyss. But with each repetition, his screams stopped abruptly, cut off as the loop reset and he found himself back at the starting point. He wondered how the creature was managing to break the repetition, slowly but surely closing in on him. Was it somehow immune to the loop? Or was it being pulled along with him, its own trajectory intersecting with his in this never-ending fall?

The thought sent a chill down his spine, and he screamed again, his voice hoarse from the repetition. He was trapped, caught in a cycle of fear and desperation. The creature was closing in, and he knew it was only a matter of time before it caught up to him. He felt a sense of hopelessness wash over him, and his screams grew louder, more frantic. But they were still cut off, abruptly silenced as the loop reset once more.

He looked towards one of the buildings, he could see someone on the flat roof of one of the weird architecture. He shouted for help, his voice echoing through the air, but the person seemed to ignore him. He kept on shouting, desperation creeping into his voice, before he finally got a response.

The person turned to him, their expression unreadable, and shouted, "Our business doesn't align." They seemed to be studying him. "I'm here for a completely different reason than you are."

He pondered on this, his mind racing with questions. What did they mean by "reason" for being here? was there a purpose in this strange world? The figure seemed to be constantly stumping around the roof, trying to piece their way through to the building. He watched them, and wondered what he was here for then.

As he observed the figure, he tried thinking about what made the fold change, as he had previously seen. The difference had been clear - there were no similarities between how the fold changed. It was as if each fold was a unique entity, with its own rules and logic.

But his thoughts were interrupted by the creature, which was drawing closer and closer. He noticed that with each new loop, it was getting nearer, its claws outstretched. In the latest loop, it was merely inches away from him. He might find out what happens when you're damaged, he thought, a sense of dread creeping over him.

But then, something hit him - an idea. It was a spark of hope, a glimmer of possibility. He didn't know if it would work, but he had to try. The creature's claws were closing in, and he steeled himself for what was to come. Would his idea be enough to save him, or would he succumb to the creature's grasp? The suspense was palpable, and he held his breath as the creature's claws snapped
