Chapter 8 - What lies under?

The water spread out with nothing else in sight, while his head was just managed to stay above water. He thought of it as another endless fold, and he shouldn't waste his time searching for an exit or any form of land. What would he do? He could feel it again, time washing over him as he felt it leap through his mind. He didn't know what to do and seemed lost, there was still a gentle tug into the water, but he managed to stay afloat.

He held his breath and went underwater, trying to see if anything was worth noting. But then he could see it, in the distance watching, its eyes shining in the darkness of the water, probably as big as his upper body. The creature's body was long and serpentine, its scales glinting in the faint light that filtered down from above. Its eyes seemed to be fixed on him, and he felt a jolt of fear as their gazes locked.

For what felt like an eternity, they stared at each other, neither seeming to change their stance. As the time passed or didn't pass by, he felt his lungs burning yet again, but he couldn't tear his gaze away. The creature's eyes seemed to bore into his soul, and he felt primal fear wash over him.

The creature didn't seem to be approaching, but it didn't seem to be leaving either. It simply stared at him, its gaze unyielding. He felt like he was being sized up, evaluated for some unknown purpose. The air in his lungs was running out, but he dared not move.

Finally, the creature turned its head in a sudden movement, away from him, and swam off. As it moved, its massive body came into view, and he was shocked by its enormity. It was a monstrous creature, its body stretching out for what seemed like hundreds of feet. Its jaws were massive, lined with razor-sharp teeth, and its eyes seemed to be capable of seeing right through the darkness.

This gave him an instant phobia, and he gently swam towards the surface, his heart racing with fear. He didn't dare look back, fearing what he might see. He broke through the surface, gasping for air, and looked around frantically, but there was nothing in sight. The creature had vanished into the depths, leaving him shaken and terrified. He tread water, his eyes scanning the surface, waiting for the creature to reappear, but it didn't. He was left alone, floating in the vast expanse of water, with only his fear to keep him company.

As his head continued to split, the pain became almost unbearable. The information flashing by was like a tidal wave, threatening to consume him whole. He felt like he was being pulled in different directions, his mind torn between the present moment and some other, unknown reality.

The voice, his own voice, echoed in his mind, asking the same question over and over: "Where does it begin and when will it end." The words seemed to reverberate through his skull, making the pain even more intense.

Despite his best efforts, he couldn't seem to focus on anything. His left hand moved of its own accord, covering his left eye as if trying to block out the overwhelming sensory input. But it didn't work. The pain persisted, and his breathing grew more erratic.

In a moment of desperation, his left hand seemed to take on a life of its own, moving to damage his left eye. He felt a sense of horror as he realized what was happening, but he couldn't stop it. He had been caught in another one. The action repeated itself over and over, a maddening loop that he couldn't escape.

His right hand remained still, unresponsive to his desperate attempts to stop the cycle. It was as if his body was trapped in a never-ending pattern, doomed to repeat the same actions forever. The thought sent a chill down his spine, and he felt his mind slipping further into the abyss.

The same thing kept happening and the pain dragged on for what felt like decades, his mind was becoming numb to it but his body was not.

He had finally concluded it this was all someone's doing, someone is watching, observing, waiting for him to make a mistake and then descend him into madness.

It stopped. Everything seemed to pause but then as he looked at the water around him, he realized he was no longer in the water, but standing on the ground, his feet touching the warm sand of a beach. The shore stretched out before him, lined with palm trees that swayed gently in the breeze. The sound of the waves lapping at the shore was soothing, a stark contrast to the turmoil that was brewing inside his mind.

The beach was deserted, except for a few seagulls that cried out overhead. The sky above was a brilliant blue, with only a few wispy clouds scattered across it. But despite the peaceful atmosphere, he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had been building up inside him.

What had happened, he couldn't remember. Did a fold change, he wondered? He tried to press on his memory to recollect where he was previously, what he remembered was that he was last in a field and then entered the small building, but then how did he get here? The memories seemed to be fragmented, and he was struggling to piece together the events that had led him to this place.

As he stood there, trying to make sense of his surroundings, he couldn't help but feel a sense of disorientation. The beach seemed like a tranquil oasis, then he remembered what he wanted to question RH, she had said it would only get more dangerous but she never said how. He hadn't witnessed any danger to that point and it had only been tranquil and peaceful scenery.
