Deacon is out trying to impress some girl. I'm surprised that dork found someone who likes his awkward personality. What kind of guy leaves his only friend hanging by having him stall his angry mom? Deacon, that's who.
I go downstairs and see Aunt Beth and Grandpa talking. Beth is getting aggressive. What can I do in this situation? I sat on the couch and just watched. Think, Chase, think! Deacon can get in a lot of trouble for this and then he won't really like me anymore.
"Aunt Beth! I'm so excited that you're here!" I said sarcastically. "Deacon said he was gonna go get me a birthday present since he forgot. He might be gone for a while."
"Oh, I see. Where did he go?" Beth asked.
"Duh, Walmart. Where else would he go?" I grinned. "By the way, do you have my cake recipe nailed down yet? It's gluten free right?"
"Mmm, I don't. I guess I'll go home then to look at the recipe. Myra needs her medicine anyway." She squinted.
Beth walked out. I bought Deacon some time, I just hope that the next date will be casual. Because taking her out on a date based on her past isn't the best idea. Maybe she's sensitive about her past. I mean, he said that she mentioned that Deacon will probably never meet her parents. Which is weird for some reason but I guess if I was dating a guy like Deacon then I wouldn't introduce them either.
I went back upstairs and changed into my pajamas. It's already late and past my own bedtime. I got into bed and got under the covers.
The morning came, the sun coming through the curtains. The morning seemed slow and quiet. Deacon should come home today. I sat up and grabbed my phone to text Deacon.

Well, if I want this girl's attention then you'll have to cover for me a little longer.

If i want to keep her attention, i have to keep this up until lunch,

Seems like Deacon was gonna be out for a while. Gosh, how long does he have to keep this up. What if she likes him and wants to go on a second date? I'll have to cover for him again. If Beth finds out I am not helping him. He needs to stand up against her and he shouldn't care that Beth might not like his new girlfriend. She sounds nice. I remember when Deacon told me about her. He was trying to hide it from me but I noticed because whenever he sees a girl his face gets red but recently he hasn't done that. I asked him what was going on and he hesitated but I got it out of him. It took twenty minutes but it was worth it.
Usually he tells me everything, we're cousins.
