Chapter 4 - chapter 4 -secret

The man then took the cigarette from Fyar's hand with hesitation.

"Try to inhale like this, then exhale," Fyar instructed the man, demonstrating with his own cigarette.

Out of curiosity, the man watched Fyar seriously and tried to practice it. He immediately coughed hard, his face turning red.

"Either you're not used to it or you're doing it wrong. Try again," Fyar stated without emotion, watching the man try to compose himself.

The man finally tried once more. This time he succeeded, without coughing. He then smoked the cigarette with a newfound confident style.

This is good. Interesting. What is this? I feel as if the weight of my thoughts and my weapon payments have vanished. This thing calms me down a bit, the man thought, his eyes widening slightly.

"Mmh, good, right? That strange thing you're inhaling is called a cigarette. It comes from my homeland," Fyar said with a slightly mocking expression. He then added, "Your question about that has been answered. Go away now."

"You haven't answered the other questions," the red-haired woman beside the man interjected.

"Ugh, I'm actually a bit lazy. Fine, sit down. Wait until I finish eating, then I'll answer," Fyar sighed and gestured for them to sit at his table.

Before long, the food he ordered arrived, delivered directly by Laura. Seeing Fyar now sitting with two strange girls and a man, Laura couldn't help but ask.

"Sir Fyar, are they your friends or acquaintances?"

Fyar answered in a flat tone, "Neither, they're beggars. Pay them no mind."

"WHAT DID YOU SAY!" The red-haired woman shot to her feet in anger, but was then calmed down by the man sitting beside her.

"Very well, Sir Fyar." Laura placed the food on his table, then quickly walked away.

Fyar devoured his food quickly and ravenously, as if he hadn't eaten in days. The three adventurers watched him, finding his eating habits a bit strange.

"Are you that hungry? Are you a vagrant?" the red-haired woman sneered.

Hey, hey, what's that supposed to mean? Do you want me to shoot you right now? Fyar growled in his mind, but his face remained calm.

After finishing his meal, Fyar put down his utensils and said, "Who are you? Why do you ask such questions?"

The man then took out an adventurer's card from his pocket and handed it to Fyar.

Fyar examined the card. It was clearly written:

Zaefal

Age 28

Level 20

Status: Active adventurer and party leader

Class: Hunter

Level-up progress 80%

Requirement for level 30 will be unlocked upon reaching level 29

This is exactly like a game. Level, status, class. It's like an ID card from my world. Was I really thrown into a world like this? Damn it, what should I do? I don't even have any powers, I just have a pistol and less than fifty bullets, Fyar thought anxiously as he continued to stare at Zaefal's card.

Fyar handed the card back to Zaefal and turned his gaze to the red-haired girl. As if knowing Fyar's intent, she immediately spoke curtly.

"My name is Rasie, I'm a level 29 Hunter. I'm not handing my card over to a weirdo like you."

Ugh, I really want to shoot this woman, Fyar cursed in his mind.

After that, Fyar shifted his gaze to the green-haired woman and asked, "You?"

Unlike Rasie, the woman smiled gently and replied, "I'm Illya, I'm a level 17 Witch. It's nice to meet you~"

This woman is quite polite and well-mannered. I like her, Fyar thought.

Fyar took a long breath. "I'm Fyar. I'm new here. The reason my clothes are strange is because I come from a land that is far, faaar away from here, and these clothes are part of our culture. I haven't joined any party, and my adventurer's card is lost."

"Do you know your level and class?" Zaefal asked.

"I don't know. I've lost my memory," Fyar decided to lie to make things easier.

"Lost your memory?" Illya seemed shocked by this.

Fyar nodded. "I woke up today in some random forest. I then realized I didn't know anything. The only things I remember are my name and my culture, and even that is just a little."

Ugh, I hope they don't ask how I remember how to smoke. Hmm, if they ask, I'll probably just say it's instinct, Fyar planned his backup lie.

"This thing you call a cigarette is really good. I've never seen or felt anything like it. Your homeland must be very secretive," Zaefal remarked, taking an occasional puff from the cigarette in his hand.

"Did you walk here from the forest? How did you get through the gate without a card?" Rasie asked, staring suspiciously at Fyar.

Fyar had anticipated this question and decided to answer truthfully. "After I woke up in the forest, I killed a monster that had many legs and one eye. After that, I went to the nearest water source to wash my face. I kept walking, looking for a well-traveled road, and there I heard human screams. I approached and found four bandits robbing an old man and a woman. I killed the four bandits, then asked the old man and the woman to take me to the city and give me a little money."

Fyar paused for a moment. "It turned out the guards seemed to know the old man and let us in without an inspection. And well, here I am."

The three adventurers were a bit surprised by Fyar's story. They had questions about how Fyar could kill four bandits while his powers were supposedly sealed.

Zaefal asked, "What was the old man's name, do you know it? It's very rare for the guards to do something like that."

Fyar answered, "Eutas."

The three of them seemed to understand why the guards had let him pass without the standard inspection. Eutas was well-known for his good reputation in this city.

"How did you kill the bandits?" Rasie asked, still not satisfied. "You know, bandits are usually between level six and nine, yet you were able to kill them in your current condition."

"That's a secret," Fyar replied with a faint smile. Before they could say anything, Fyar added, "Oh, right, I wanted to ask. When I took an emblem from the bandits, Eutas and his daughter seemed scared and panicked, as if they'd seen a ghost."

Panicked? Seen a ghost? What does he mean? Zaefal wondered.

"What emblem?" Rasie asked.

"A black skull," Fyar answered.

Instantly, the three adventurers' faces turned deathly pale. Their expressions changed drastically, filled with shock and palpable fear, as if they had just seen something that should never have been mentioned.
