Chapter 9 - We're Under Attack!

Once Charles and Erik left, one of the CIA agents told the mutants to pick up their mess in the nicest manner possible. Noah was not surprised by this. The agents haven't liked him much since he got here. They seemed to only do things for the mutants because they have to. They weren't nearly as bad as Noah's hometown, but still, Noah did not like being mistreated.

Noah wanted to be sober when fixing the statue and window, so he decided to use his rewind ability on himself. Strangely, unlike before, it took much more of his energy to use his abilities on himself. Luckily, he was still able to reverse the damage, as he no longer had alcohol in his system.

Noah was the only one able to fix the statue and the window, so he first directed his ability to rewind on the statue as it slowly became one again. A couple of agents watched with interest. They could not help but think that Noah's abilities were useful. Noah then focused his power on the window, and it also slowly came back together to be whole again. Noah was shocked to see that his rewind ability seemed to be easier to use and didn't require nearly as much energy as it did before, especially when he used it on his body. 'Is rewind easier to use on objects than living beings?' Noah questioned in his mind.

By the time Noah had fixed the statue and the window, the room was cleaned, and some of the mutants, like Alex, Darwin, and Sean, had left. Hank and Angel stayed behind to comfort Raven, who looked on the verge of tears.

Noah glanced awkwardly at Raven. He didn't know her very well, but he was already starting to see these people as friends. Noah thought about the events the night before. He said, "I don't think what we did was wrong." Raven, Angel, and Hank looked at Noah with conflicting gazes. "Noah, you're fourteen, of course, you don't think we did anything wrong." Angel said, which resulted in nods of agreement from Hank and Raven.

Noah shook his head. "We were all put in this room with alcohol, and nobody gave us rules on what we could and couldn't do. Besides everything we broke, I fixed it, so there should not be a problem. We were not trained agents, so they should have given us rules before putting all of us in one room together with alcohol. I'm heading back to my room, and I'm not blaming myself or you guys for anything that has happened tonight." Noah walked away.

Raven no longer looked as sad. What Noah said made sense to her. "He's right, there's no need to blame ourselves for something we didn't know we weren't allowed to do."

Angle nodded with a smile as she replied, "Hell yeah."

Hank, on the other hand, looked conflicted. "I don't think that point of view will help us much."

Noah walked down the hall to his small room. Nothing like what he was used to. The room fits its bed. A closet filled with clothes, beside the closet was a full-length mirror, and one small desk that had some books on it. Noah went over to the full-length mirror, seeing a taller version of himself. Noah took his hairband out of his hair that had held it back mostly away from his face, beside the stray hairs that had refused to stay in the band. When he aged, his body and his hair also grew quite long. Noah debated on cutting it, but he didn't know how to cut hair himself, and he didn't want to bother anybody else. So, he left it. Luckily, the room had a small restroom with a toilet, sink, and small shower. Noah stepped in there, took a quick shower, and then slipped on a white t-shirt and white shorts as pajamas.

There was also a phone on one of the walls. When he first got here, Charles informed him that if he needed anything, he just had to pick up the phone, dial five, and someone would answer. He only needed to tell them what he needed.

Noah went to the phone and hit the five when his stomach growled. He didn't have to wait long before he heard, "Noah Malak, what do you need?" Noah thought for a second that he had been quite addicted to McDonald's recently and couldn't help but crave it. "I want McDonald's, two double cheeseburgers, ten-piece nuggets, large fries, a milkshake, and a doctor pepper." Noah replied. "It will be at your door in twenty minutes."

Noah smiled. "Thank you!" Then he put the phone back on the walk. To pass the time, Noah went to his desk, pulled out a book, and started reading.

About twenty minutes later, a knock came from the door. Noah opened the door to see an agent with a big McDonald's and only his Dr. Pepper. Noah frowned, "My milkshake?" he asked. The agent had a smug smile on his lips as he replied, "Their ice cream machine was down again." Noah looked irritated. He grabbed the bag, and the drink said Thanks and then closed his door. "It's always broken!" Noah nearly yelled in frustration. Noah hadn't had a milkshake since he was seven, and since being here, every time he asked for one, the machine was down. In frustration, Noah stuffed food in his mouth with tears in his eyes.

The next day, Noah spent most of the day in his room until they once again wanted the mutants gathered into one room. Noah didn't like it. The only reason they would do this is that they tried to keep an eye on them all together. See how they interact with each other to gather data.

Noah brushed his teeth and then got out of his pajamas. He put on a black T-shirt and black fitted pants. Noah looked at the scars in his arms and frowned. He grabbed a jacket that was half white and half light blue. Noah looked in the mirror and decided not to put his hair up, brushed it, and then walked out of the room. There was an agent already there who escorted him to the room.

The rest of the mutants were already in the room. Darwin and Alex are playing on the pinball machine. Rave, Angel, Sean, and Hank are on the couches. Noah decided to join them in one of the chairs beside the couches.

"Oh, hey, Noah, you're the last to arrive." Sean said.

Noah frowned at him. "I still remember you ratting on me yesterday."

Sean touched the back of his head as he had a slight smile on his face. "My bad, at the time I thought you were competition."

Noah looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

Angel and Raven both rolled their eyes, ignoring Sean as they continued talking to Hank.

"Well, uh, you know… Never mind." Sean replied in a pout.

It was then that two agents walked by the window.

"Oh, I didn't know the circus was in town." One of them exclaimed.

"Hey, come on, honey, give us a little, uh." The agent moved his arms up and down, making weird fluttering noises."

No one in the room was amused at all. Noah looked angry as he gripped his fists together.

"No? Come on, let's see the foot. There it is, come on, Bigfoot, let's go." The agent continued making Hank get up and walked toward them.

"There it is. Let go." The agent said with a smug smile. That is, until Hank ignored him and went to the current.

"Hey, hey, come on, hey."

Hank then releases the currents so that they could no longer see the agents.

Hank then sat back down.

"They're just guys being stupid." Raven said, trying to comfort Angel.

Angel, upset, replied, "Guy's being stupid, I can handle. Okay, I've handled that my whole life. But I'd rather have a bunch of guys stare at me with my clothes off than the way these ones stare at me."

"At us." Raven said.

There was then a weird noise that went outside. Like something dropped.

"What was that?" Darwin responded.

They all looked around the room, trying to hear the noise again.

Darwin then walked closer to the couches from the pinball machine as he said, "I don't know, but something doesn't feel right."

Noah stood up as well. He trusted Darwin's feelings; the dude literally adapts to survive.

Hearing the noise again, everyone stood up and walked to the window.

Darwin opened the current.

Soon after, an agent fell from the sky, dying in front of the mutants.

Raven screamed in panic.

They all backed up, some putting their hand to their mouth out of reflex.

Then more and agents fell from the sky as screams filled the air and then stopped as one by one, they dropped to the ground.

"We're under attack." Noah said. His right hand glowed gold and his left hand glowed blue, waiting for whatever to happen to happen.

Elsewhere, at the entrance of the CIA headquarters, walked in Shaw with a metal helmet.

"We have an intruder in the main atrium." An agent said into a walkie-talkie.

"Where are the mutants?" Shaw asked, not stopping in his steps

"You take another step; I'm going to put you down."

"Of course you will, but where do I find the more evolved people?" Shaw replied, not stopping in his tracks, walking closer and closer to the agent.

The agent shot bullets at Shaw's chest, but they seemed to be absorbed.

The agent backed up from Shaw, sending more bullets as he yelled into the walkie-talkie, "Send back-up now!"

Shaw grabbed the man by his throat, lifting him up in the air.

***

Back with Noah and his mutant friends.

"Get back, get back, do not leave that room. We're under attack." An agent ordered them.

Five agents were in front of the window guarding the mutants with large guns in their hands.

When all of a sudden, a red mutant appeared in the courtyard fifteen feet behind them.

"Behind you!" Raven yelled.

Alex and Darwin pointed to the red mutant as well. "Shoot it, shoot it!" one of the agents commanded as he turned.

Shots were fired, but the red man with knives in his hand disappeared in a red smoke, reappearing, cutting down an agent, and pushing the weapon of the other agent toward the window, and the other agents shooting.

The mutant in the room got down quickly as the window broke from the bullets hitting it.

At the other window in the room, there was a tornado.

***

Back to Shaw with holding up the man by his collar shirt.

"Where are the mutants?" Shaw asked once again, but reinforcements had shown up, surrounding him with guns.

"Put that man down or we will open fire." The agents surrounding Shaw yelled.

Shaw threw the man high in the air, and bullets from all around him were shot at him. Shaw absorbed every bullet along with a rocket that was launched from a rocket launcher.

***

Back with Noah

The red man teleported from agent to agent, cutting them down with his knives.

"Stay here, my ass. Let's go!" Darwin yelled. Once again, when Darwin said anything that had to do with survival, Noah listened. Noah looked up to Darwin quite a bit to put that much trust in him.

They all ran out of the room. Agents and soldiers telling them to get back.

"We can help." Darwin exclaimed before they got stopped by them.

***

Shaw took one foot high up before sending it to the ground, causing the ground to form an earthquake that was filled with fire and exploded, half of the building, killing most of the agents in there.

Noah and the mutants saw the explosion and ran back to the room. A large tornado on one side of the room and a red man teleporting assassin on the other side.

They watched as the red teleporting man killed the remaining agents with ease.

The tornado then sent a soldier flying into the other window, breaking it as well.

The mutant that made the tornado then walked into the room, as well as the red teleporter.

They then heard gunshots before hearing an agent say, "Wait, wait, you want the mutants? They're right through that door. Just let us normal people go."

They then heard the man drop before a man with a metal helmet walked into the room.

We're doomed. The red one could cut me down before I even try to use my abilities, and the other one creates tornadoes! And who knows what the guy in the middle can do. He acts like he's their boss, so he is probably stronger than them.' Noah thought.

The man with the metal helmet closed the door. "Where the telepath?" he asked, looking at the red one.

"Not here." The red teleporter said.

Too bad. Now I can take this silly thing off," Shaw replied.

"Good evening. My name's Sebastian Shaw. And I am not here to hurt you."

"Freeze." A remaining agent from outside said.

"Azazel." Shaw replied, looking at him.

The red teleporter, or Azazel, disappeared from the one, then reappeared by the agent and killed him.

"My friends, there's a revolution coming. When mankind discovers who we are, what we can do. Each of us will face a choice. Be enslaved or rise up to rule. Choose freely, but know that if you are not with us, then by definition you are against us. So, you can stay and fight for the people who hate and fear you. Or you can join me. And live like Kings. And Queens."

Noah didn't think the offer was bad, but then he thought of his family. His mother was not a mutant, his future sibling may not be a mutant, and even his father was not a mutant. Noah wanted no pain to go towards them.

Noah watched as Angel put her hand in Shaw's. She was convinced by him, and they walked towards the outside where the statue once stood.

Angel stopped hearing Raven calling her, and Darwin asked, "Are you kidding me?"

"Come on, we don't belong here. And that's nothing to be ashamed of." Angel replied to them. Darwin held his hand out to her in protest, but she looked away, walking with Shaw to continue outside.

"We have to do something." Raven replied.

The three bad mutants walked with Angel outside, getting ready to leave.

Until Darwin said, "Stop, I'm coming with you."

Shaw smiled as Darwin walked closer to them.

"Good choice. So, tell me about your mutation," He asked.

"Well, I adapt to survive. So, I guess I'm coming with you." Darwin replied.

"I like that." Shaw replied.

Noah was confused, seeing this for the first time, he questioned if Darwin was right.

"Alex!" Darwin then yelled.

"Get down!" Alex yelled.

Darwin got in front of Angel, covering her with his body as Alez sent waves of large red rings to Shaw and the others.

Shaw absorbed the red rings as he said, "Protecting your fellow mutants? It's a noble gesture. Feels good."

Darwin then attacked Shaw with a fist, coming at him, but Shaw blocked it, absorbing the impact.

Shaw then grabbed Darwin by his chin and whispered, "Adapt to this." He put a glowing orb in his mouth, forcing him to swallow it.

Shaw was about to leave when he heard someone yell "NO!"

Shaw looked at the source of the voice to see the pale man with long white hair and light blue eyes. 'Albinism is a mutation. This one mutated twice." Shaw noticed that his eyes were glowing blue, and so were his hands. Noah walked out the window closer to Darwin.

Darwin was struggling to adapt as he started to explode from within, but Noah was focusing on him, his rewind ability directed at him. Noah pictured Darwin back healthy, and slowly his body reversed, and the energy that Darwin ate came back up, and then the energy ball went back to Shaw. Darwin was safe but shocked. Noah had a smile on his face before he collapsed.

Shaw's eyes widened before he said, "I change my mind. You all have a choice. That one there does not. Azazel grabs him." Azazel teleported from them, grabbed Noah, and then teleported back. They then all disappeared as they held hands. Azazel teleporting them away with Noah.
