Chapter 10 - Chronos

Apologies for the lack of chapters. I had a busy last three days. I'm a full-time student as well as a Co-Author, and I was working on my book series with the Author. This series I am doing for fun, but I plan on completing it. Some days I can fork out one to three chapters, and some days you may not see a chapter at all. Thanks for your patience.

Moscow, Russia

In a huge hotel room with a large living space, a kitchen, and five bedrooms, there was a group of mutants who had just teleported into the room. Azazel laid Noah down on the couch. Shaw looked from Noah then back to Angel.

"What are your mutant abilities and your name?" Shaw asked.

Angel, who was looking at Noah with conflicting eyes, looked back at Shaw. He had a dangerous glint in his eyes, and Angel knew her choice could not be taken back. But she could not help but pity Noah. At least she had a choice; the kid had no choice. Angel gulped back her fear, seeing as Shaw, the scary man in front of her, looked impatient for her answer.

"I can fly with insect-like wings, which appear from my tattoos, and I can eject flaming acid from my mouth." Angel responded, but unlike before, where she would show off her abilities, as she described now, she had self-doubt. The mutants in front of her seemed much more powerful than she was. If either one of them decided she was useless, she could do nothing to stop them from killing her.

Shaw nodded, not in a judgmental way, just in a way to get on to the next topic. "I want to know everything you know about him." Shaw asked as he pointed at Noah.

Angel would have frowned if she had not feared for her life; instead, she had a blank face, and she also realized that the other two mutants, who were hardly paying attention, now had their full attention on her. It was clear just by Noah showing a hint of his mutant ability that these mutants recognized his potential. For once in Angel's life, she was not the center of attention, and it made her feel jealous.

"His name is Noah, codename he wants to go by is Chronos."

Shaw showed interest in his eyes and amusement on his face. "Like the Greek god of time?" he asked her.

Angel nodded her head as she replied, "Yeah, like the Greek god makes sense, considering he can rewind or fast forward objects and living beings. Although it seems that using his abilities on the living is more difficult for him.

"What makes you say that?" Shaw asked.

"Well, he used his abilities early to showcase them. He used them on objects and didn't even look tired from them, but when he used his ability to save Darwin, he passed out." Angel replied.

Shaw nodded, "That's a good observation."

Angel smiled at the compliment before adding one thing. "Oh, and one other thing. His body is nineteen, but he is not. He has the mind of a fourteen-year-old.

Everyone in the room froze from this information, but Shaw was the first to react when he asked, "Care to elaborate?"

"Well, I found this out not long ago when Erik the mutant who controls metal told us that he has the mind of a fourteen-year-old. Noah told us how, though. He explained that he was horribly injured and to save his life, he had to fast-forward his body to a point where it was healed. He had said that he could not rewind because he was too low on energy and that rewinding takes more energy than fast forwarding. The problem is that if he had fast-forwarded correctly, he would only have been a year older, but he didn't have control over his powers and accidentally fast-forwarded five years."

"That's hilarious, they recruited a child." Riptide replied, and Azazel laughed as well as replying, "I don't blame them, this child has incredible abilities. If I found him out in the wild, I would have taken him as well. The boy possibly can make people immortal, which is probably why Shaw took him in the first place."

Shaw looked back at Riptide and Azazel, a smile forming. "Yes, well, although my abilities slow my aging, I am still aging, which is an inconvenience, and I'm sure a mutant with the name Chronos can help with that."

"Speak of the devil." Azazel said as he saw Noah stir.

Noah looked up at the unrecognizable ceiling and sat up quickly to look around the room, his eyes glowing yellow, ready to use his abilities if need be. That's when he saw them: Shaw, the leader, Azazel, the red devil, the tornado (riptide), and Angel. His gaze hardened until it landed on Angel. Shaw smiled as he said, "You need not be so defensive, boy. We wish you no harm, and you don't even have to do anything for us besides follow and observe. I believe that if you watch us, then we may convince you to stay with us."

Noah's guard never went unguarded as he replied, "I seriously doubt that."

Shaw never stopped smiling, trying to convey a safe environment for the boy. "Why don't you give us a chance?"

"You want to get rid of all humans that are not mutants, correct?" Noah asked

Shaw shook his head. "Not necessarily, I want mutant dominance over humanity."

"Well, see that's a problem as well. I have a family that is normal humans." Noah responded.

"Alright then, my plan will include your family. They will be saved and considered as mutants when mutants take over. I'm not asking you to join us, at least not yet, just observe. You were willing to give those humans a chance; why don't you give us a chance?" Shaw replied.

Noah took a moment to think, and, in the end, he realized that even though Shaw was making this out as a choice, it really wasn't. Noah was sure that if he tried to leave, he would be killed or threatened, and as he glanced at the mutants in front of him, not only was he outnumbered, but he was outpowered. Noah could not help but be frustrated; he felt that if he could control his abilities better and not use so much energy, he would be able to beat these three and then save Angel.

Noah had not been with Angel for long, but he could tell by looking at her that she regretted her decision. She didn't regret what Shaw believed in, just that they were not the kind of people she wanted to be with.

Noah nodded, "Alright, but I will not be using my abilities for you. I will only be observing." Shaw smiled as he added, "You will not use your abilities against us, as well, Noah. I want you to play the middleman. Watch everything go down, and whoever wins, you will be ending up siding with." Noah nodded his head once again, but he made no promises.

In a large building in Russia, a high-ranking General watched on his balcony, seeing his army marching and his tanks and vehicles that held missiles move. He walked back into the building, shaking hands with Shaw as he said, "Hello." In Russian.

"Once again, my sympathies for your treatment at the hands of the CIA. These Americans are ruthless. Now they have their missiles placed in Turkey ...I expect you'll be planning new missile sites of your own. Somewhere, you know the American early-warning system won't help. And so close to Florida." Shaw responded in Russian

"Missiles in Cuba?" The high General asked with a laugh, getting closer to Shaw as he said, "Are you serious? We may as well declare war."

Shaw, looking unamused, replied in English, "Maybe I wasn't clear enough. You will make this happen."

The General felt threatened to reply in English, "Okay, let's see what the KGB thinks about this." He turned away and started walking toward the phone, and picked it up. "Hello, General Armivolkoff. As he said that, four people teleported into the room. Azazel, Riptide, Angel, and Chronos. "It's nothing." The General replied before hanging up and turning back to Shaw.

CIA Headquarters

Charles and Erik arrived back by car.

"Raven." Charles said as he ran to check on her after seeing her. Charles and Raven hugged as Erik came walking behind.

"We've made arrangements for you to be taken home immediately," Charles said to the other mutants.

"We're not going home." Both Alex and Darwin said at the same time.

"Alex is not going back to prison," Sean replied.

"They took Noah after he saved my life!" Darwin exclaimed.

"All the more reason for you to leave. This is over." Charles replied.

"Noah's was taken, Charles. They took a child, a child that saved Darwin."

"We can get him back." Erik said. Everyone who was looking down looked up at Erik, hope gleaming in their eyes.

Charles walked away from Raven, heading past Erik, but as he was walking alongside Erik, he asked, "Erik, a word, please." Erik came following, looking insulted.

"They're just kids." Charles exclaimed.

"No, they were kids. Shaw took the only kid we had. Shaw has his army; we need ours."

Charles was unconvinced: "Those mutants are not worth your revenge."

Erik was clenching his teeth as he responded, "This is no longer just about revenge. Shaw took Noah. We dragged Noah into this."

Charles sighed and looked back at the other mutants. "We'll have to train. All of us. Yes?"

They nodded their heads while some responded with a verbal "Yeah."

Then Hank said, "Well, we can't stay here. Even if they reopen the department, it's not safe. We've got nowhere to go."

"Yes, we do." Charles replied.

In a CIA room is a grey room with a one-sided mirror. In there is one chair where a platinum blonde sat. On the other side of the window, two men talked about her.

McCone: "The law says we've got to turn her over."

Stryker: "The law applies to human beings. The same laws don't apply to mutants. They're too dangerous. Times like these, security is more important than liberty. There's a war coming, John.

McCone: "Yes, but a war with who?"

Emma Frost got up from her chair, walked over to the mirror, traced her diamond finger, making a medium circle in the mirror, and poked the mirror circle out to create a hole.

Emma Frost: "Excellent question. Though I won't call it a war exactly. That suggests both sides stand an equal chance of winning."

1407 Graymalkin Lane, Salem Center, Westchester, New York, is the location of a large castle-like mansion, and where Charles, Erik, Raven, Hank, Darwin, Alex, Sean, and the CIA woman Moira stood staring at the mansion.

"This is yours?" Sean asked.

"No, it's ours." Charles replied.

"Honestly, Charles, I don't know how you survived. Living in such hardship." Erik responded irritably as he looked at Charles.

Raven walked forward in between them (probably jealous, but of which one is the question). "Well, it was a hardship softened by me." She replied as she hugged Charles, and Charles kissed her head. "Come on, time for the tour." Raven responded.

In a room of high officials, the General, who was threatened by Shaw, was giving a speech.

"Dear comrades... The United States has dispatched warships to Cuba. This leaves us with no choice. Comrade First Secretary... We must send in our fleet. Dispatch the fleet!" The General ended, and claps of agreement went through the room.

In response to the Russians, President Kennedy has signed a formal proclamation setting up a blockade of all missiles bound for Cuba. The Soviet Union reacted by terming it "A step along the road to unleash a thermo-nuclear war."

Alright, this is the chapter shorter than usual, but I want opinions. I'm debating skipping training with Charles, Erik, and the others because Noah isn't there and will have little to no impact. The only impact I could possibly add to training for Darwin. I could keep it in for those who have not watched the movie, or those who don't remember it, but ultimately, I would like feedback because I do think it is somewhat of a wasted chapter.

As for those who got this far without giving power stones, you get a pass from Harry because of how late I was with this chapter.
