The next day, Cang Ye awoke with Morgan in his arms.
No words could describe the feeling that washed over Cang Ye when he opened his eyes to the beautiful, delicate face of the woman he loved. It was a joy and contentment so profound, it was a feeling one could spend a lifetime chasing.
Morgan had clearly woken up earlier than him. Nearly a year of ruling had given the elegant queen a disciplined routine. After waking, she hadn't bothered to get up and dress. She simply lay in Cang Ye's embrace, quietly studying his face, her deep blue eyes shimmering with a strange light.
When he finally opened his eyes and met her gaze, they didn't exchange "good mornings." They simply kissed again, tangling together like newlyweds. For them, this was the best kind of morning greeting.
After their passion subsided, Cang Ye and Morgan had to attend to their duties as queen and knight. It proved that no matter the era, using a celebrity to endorse something was an excellent way to promote it to the masses.
Riding on Cang Ye's fame and the bards' enthusiastic retelling of his story, more and more people learned of the utopian happiness of life in Camelot and yearned to come. The number of refugees they took in increased dramatically, and even some minor nobles and knights, hearing of the city's prosperity, came to pledge their allegiance. After all, not everyone possessed the will to sacrifice their lives for glory; the majority of people in the world simply wanted a peaceful and stable life.
Morgan, naturally, welcomed them all. But with the increase in population came an increase in administrative affairs. Fortunately, she had taken Cang Ye's earlier advice and appointed many ministers to share the burden, so she wasn't overly exhausted.
As for Cang Ye, as one of the four great knights who had broken Morgan's curse and whose fame was widespread, he was appointed Grand Knight Commander the day after declaring his loyalty. He was now the First Knight of the Queen, in command of Camelot's entire military and defensive forces.
In this role, the 『Leader's Charisma』 skill he had acquired from the second simulation proved immensely useful. His version of the skill was B-rank, the same as Proto-Arthur's. A charisma of that level was sufficient to manage a small country, let alone the army of a single city.
So, his days fell into a rhythm. By day, he led the army on patrols around Camelot and dealt with troublemakers among the refugees. By night, he returned to the castle to share blissful, intimate moments with Morgan. He was living a simple yet enviable life.
It was worth noting that Britomart—the fairy knight who was ostensibly his squire but in reality was just tagging along to experience human culture in Britain—had been acting like she was on a sugar rush ever since arriving in Camelot. She shed her long-worn disguise and stopped following Cang Ye around. Now, she stuck to Morgan's side like glue, serving as her personal guard and muttering something about how "this is what I was meant to do."
Cang Ye was both relieved and slightly miffed by this. It wasn't an emotional attachment, but rather the feeling of having a kitten that used to cling to you suddenly lose interest and start fawning over your girlfriend instead. It was, for some reason, a bit frustrating.
The system's explanation was that Britomart's ideal was to follow in her mother's footsteps. In The Faerie Queene, besides finding true love, the most important quest for the knight Britomart was to obey the commands of and serve the Fairy Queen. And as luck would have it, Morgan happened to be one of the Nine Faerie Queens of Avalon. In other words, the sole remaining Fairy Queen on the Britain of the Outer World.
Upon meeting Morgan, Britomart, who was determined to dedicate her life to the Fairy Queen just like her mother, had lit up like a certain human "Beast" seeing 120 Saint Quartz appear in their inbox. She eagerly trotted over to pledge her loyalty.
Morgan's response was: "By special pardon, you are hereby appointed as the Fairy Knight of Foreign Campaigns."
Initially, Morgan had been quite displeased that Cang Ye had returned from his trip with another woman in tow, even knowing that Britomart was a fairy and rather simple-minded. Her displeasure peaked when she learned from Cang Ye that Britomart had been his sole companion during his travels.
The consequence was that Cang Ye was kicked out of bed that night and spent the entire night kneeling naked outside the door. If it hadn't been for his repeated assurances that he had no improper thoughts about Britomart, combined with the fact that the girl was completely clueless about romance and had sworn her fealty to Morgan, the queen might have quietly disposed of her. When it came to her possessiveness over Cang Ye, Morgan had reached a pathological level.
And so, Cang Ye's life in Camelot proceeded peacefully and happily. But this didn't mean he had grown complacent or lost himself in Morgan's gentle embrace. He continuously dispatched spies to gather intelligence on the outside world, monitoring the progress of the conflict between the Red Dragon and the White Dragon.
This time, without Cang Ye's reinforcement, Vortigern's army, after a period of suppressing the scattered Celtic forces, ran into a formidable opponent: the army of the Red Dragon, united by Artoria and Merlin. Against this force, Vortigern's army was completely routed.
Aside from a lack of exceptional commanders, the most critical factor was Merlin shamelessly taking to the battlefield himself. He not only provided buffs to the Celtic soldiers but also used a vast array of magecraft to inflict massive casualties on Vortigern's forces. Vortigern's own magus corps tried to counter him, but against the power of the Court Magus Merlin, they were less effective than the most common Saxon warrior.
Thus, the first war between King Arthur and the Usurper King concluded with the Usurper King's overwhelming defeat.
Upon learning of this, Cang Ye was shocked by Merlin's shamelessness but also somewhat resigned. After all, he couldn't expect an incubus devoid of human emotion and understanding to possess a human sense of honor. If Merlin had one, he wouldn't have raised a king who couldn't understand the human heart. This was evident even in Proto-Arthur's case; while Proto-Merlin (Merli) was a troll, she at least had some emotion, so the Arthur she raised was slightly better off, even if they were two sides of the same coin.
Cang Ye had always found it a great pity that his Britain had Merlin and not Merli. After all, a wicked succubus deserved to be thoroughly... disciplined.
When Morgan heard the news of Arthur's great victory, her expression soured. Clearly, she still despised her nominal younger sister. Even though she had now achieved success and proven that she was not the unworthy king Uther had claimed her to be, many people still cited the prophecy, proclaiming that Arthur was the true King of Britain. This, naturally, did not sit well with the obsessive Morgan.
This continued until one day, while Cang Ye was waiting for Morgan to finish her bath, he was suddenly summoned. After removing his clothes and armor and entering the royal bathhouse, he saw Morgan, also completely naked, sitting by the edge of the pool with her arms crossed.
