Sui Xi preferred the character traits of Hu Jun over Ye Chen. In her eyes, Ye Chen was just an average man with a modest income, and she feared her daughter might accept a future with him.
Every mother wants her daughter to be truly happy. For now, Sui Xi decided not to interfere in their relationship. However, she told herself that if Ye Chen failed to improve in the future, she would step in and separate them.
When Hu Jun had first met Lin Rouxi, he had been attracted to her. Unfortunately for him, Lin Rouxi's attitude toward him was cold and indifferent. She valued more than just appearances—she wanted a man with status and capability, something Hu Jun hadn't been able to offer at the time.
Sui Xi turned to him with a smile.
> "Oh yes, Hu Jun, how is your father's business doing? Is it going well?"
Hu Jun grinned proudly.
> "Auntie, my father's business is thriving. It earns millions of dollars every month."
Once again, he bragged about his family's wealth.
As he glanced over at Ye Chen and Lin Rouxi, he noticed they were engrossed in their own lively conversation, paying no attention to him at all. This annoyed Hu Jun—he was used to people being impressed by his wealth and trying to get closer to him.
To ease the awkward atmosphere, Sui Xi quickly suggested,
> "Well, let's eat."
During dinner, Lin Rouxi took the initiative to serve Ye Chen, much like she did whenever they ate together. Sui Xi noticed the closeness between them and realized it would not be easy to separate the two.
Hu Jun, on the other hand, clenched his teeth in frustration at the sight of the affectionate couple.
After the meal, Ye Chen and Lin Rouxi prepared to leave. Lin Rouxi had only come here to convince her mother that she already had a boyfriend.
> "Mom, we're going home now," Lin Rouxi said.
> "Rouxi, why don't you come home with me? It's been a long time since we spent time together," Sui Xi suggested warmly.
> "Alright, Mom," Lin Rouxi agreed.
Sui Xi beamed with happiness.
Not wanting to miss a chance, Hu Jun quickly spoke up.
> "Aunt Sui, what if I take you both home?"
He didn't care that Lin Rouxi already had a boyfriend—he believed he could still win her over.
> "Oh, that's not necessary," Sui Xi politely declined.
Lin Rouxi added,
> "No need, Hu Jun. Ye Chen will take us home, right?" She gave Ye Chen a playful wink.
> "Of course, no problem," Ye Chen replied casually.
Hu Jun forced a smile, but inside he was seething.
> Just you wait, Lin Rouxi. Sooner or later, you'll be mine.
Once they stepped out of the restaurant and into the parking lot, Sui Xi asked,
> "Rouxi, where's your car?"
> "Over there, Mom," Lin Rouxi pointed.
The car she indicated looked old and worn, with patches of rust. Hu Jun burst out laughing.
> "That's your car? A wreck like that shouldn't even be parked here—it belongs in a junkyard."
Lin Rouxi's eyes narrowed.
> "And what's so great about your car compared to Ye Chen's?"
> "Hah! You think that heap can compare to my car?" Hu Jun scoffed, proudly gesturing toward his luxury vehicle.
> "Hey, Ye Chen, right? You should buy a car like mine," he said mockingly.
Ye Chen didn't bother replying. To him, Hu Jun was nothing more than a clown. In truth, Ye Chen's car was far superior to Hu Jun's—it was just hidden behind the old one Lin Rouxi had pointed at earlier.
> "Auntie, why don't I drive you home? My car is much better than that ugly thing your daughter's boyfriend owns," Hu Jun continued smugly.
> "Hmph! Ye Chen's car is dozens of times better than yours," Lin Rouxi shot back, pulling her mother toward Ye Chen's real car.
Sui Xi followed, confused by her daughter's claim.
When they walked past the rusty old vehicle, Sui Xi's eyes widened. Parked behind it was a sleek, luxurious sports car—its design easily outclassed Hu Jun's. She immediately understood why her daughter had spoken with such confidence.
Ye Chen, Lin Rouxi, and Sui Xi got into the car. Hu Jun, standing a short distance away, looked puzzled—why were they getting into a car behind the "junk" one?
The engine roared to life.
> Vroooom!
That sound could only belong to a high-end sports car. Hu Jun's jaw nearly dropped when the luxury car pulled out, its window rolling down to reveal Ye Chen at the wheel.
He was stunned—this was a rare, limited-edition model worth over ten million dollars, with only seven units in the world.
Ye Chen smirked as he passed Hu Jun.
> "Hey, your car looks a bit outdated. You should consider getting one like mine."
With that, Ye Chen sped off, leaving Hu Jun frozen in place.
The insult Hu Jun had thrown at Ye Chen had been perfectly turned back on him—it felt like a sharp slap to the face. Embarrassment and humiliation washed over him. No wonder Ye Chen hadn't been angry earlier; the man was far wealthier than Hu Jun could ever imagine.
From that day forward, Hu Jun didn't dare show his face in front of Sui Xi or Lin Rouxi again. Feeling utterly humiliated, he left the parking lot in a gloomy haze, cursing his own foolishness.
