Alina's pov
My eyes snapped open. I looked at the ceiling as I took deep breaths in, seems like the power went off.
I turned to look at the alarm clock and I almost groaned.
3 : 24 a.m.
I turned over to the other side of my bed and almost screamed.
A dark shadow was seated in front of the door, her hair fell over her face, the moonlight illuminated her deep purple eyes that was staring out of the window, she was finally in her black suit and had the stiffest sitting position I could ever imagine.
She looked breathtakingly beautiful.
I shook my head trying to get her out of my thoughts as I finally sat up.
"Seriously?" I half yelled at her. "Don't you ever sleep?"
She didn't even react to my words, she withdrew her eyes from the window and turned to look at me, a bit displeased.
"Not when I'm working"
Work?
I remembered I was the one to ask her to continue her job but I couldn't help but feel guilty. My eyes trailed to her shoulder and she didn't look like she was in any sort of pain.
I dropped by on the bed with a soft thud staring at the ceiling blankly. "If one day you suddenly start having wrinkles, I wouldn't be surprised due to how serious you are"
No response.
I had no freaking idea why dad hired her but I was expecting someone fun for a bodyguard not someone this strict and serious.
I grabbed one of the pillows beside me, throwing it right at her, it bounced off her shoulder and into the floor.
Her expression changed, she frowned in pain but it was replaced by a cold glare.
She didn't say anything though and I groaned out loud.
"You think you're too perfect to talk to me, huh?" She probably was that older than me but at this point she was acting like an old granny.
I saw her turn her head to look at me, her left eyebrow quirked up in confusion.
Her eyes were dull and cold, it made me think over what I was doing.
Am I doing too much? Should I stop pestering her?
"I think I'm here to protect you, miss. Not talk" she said stiffly and I couldn't help but wonder.
Was there really something I could do to unfreeze her frozen heart?
"Protect me from what exactly? My pillows? The monster's under my bed? The roaches behind the cupboard? What are you protecting me for exactly?"
She stared at me, something flashed in her eyes and it disappeared as quickly as it came.
"You don't know anything about me" I continued staring out of the window to avoid meeting her gaze. "You don't get to sit down there all perfect in black and think you have the god-damned right to say you just want to protect me"
She stood up slowly, hands crossed under the big mountains on her chest. I flushed tearing my eyes off them as I watched her approach me.
But I thought she wanted to walk out of the room.
She didn't.
Instead she stopped just beside my bed, standing as she hovered over me.
"Have you ever seen anyone being killed?" She asked and I found myself shaking my head, except from the ball that happened few days back, I haven't really seen anyone being killed. "I have seen a human being, thrown off a skyscraper, being butchered or sold to human traffickers. All in the name of revenge"
She let out a mocking laugh as she leaned closer to me, grabbed my chin in her hand, she made me face her.
"You think you are untouchable, due to your father's wealth?" She added, her eyes never leaving mine. "You're not"
She spat letting go of my chin as she stood straight, I frowned looking at her. "Do you think I'm lucky being his daughter?" I could feel all the emotions I had once sealed away making it's way to my heart.
"I lost my mother due to a stupid rivalry my dad created, heck I would've been dead if I hadn't ran away" I said, tears welling up in my eyes. "I was never happy being the vice president's daughter. Being locked up in this huge house"
I said as I motioned my hand at the large house we lived in with a sad smile.
Charmaine didn't say anything. What was I expecting, a huge hug? Comfort?
"I know how it feels to be isolated from the true world" She just said quietly, her voice wasn't calm.
It sounded almost lonely. She turned around heading to the red couch just in front of the window.
I sat there for a while, wiping the tears that threatened to fall. I stood up from the bed, I don't know how but I found myself walking towards Charmaine.
She turned to stare at me, I couldn't quite understand her expression but I didn't care. I took a seat beside her as I turned to look out of the window.
I felt her gaze on me and blood rushed up to my cheeks immediately. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Nothing" she said simply turning to look at the window. We stayed like that for a while, enjoying each other's company.
I don't know why but I could feel my heart racing. I turned to look at Charmaine, her long lashes fluttered slightly as she turned to meet my gaze.
"Why did you choose to become my bodyguard?" I asked softly. I heard she was the best bodyguard here in our country and the hardest to acquire.
So why exactly was she here?
"Your father pays well" she shrugged but I could feel there was a deeper reason.
I turned to look at her hair and I felt the urge to touch it, I ran my tongue over my lower lip, taking a deep breath. "Can I touch it?"
I found myself asking, she stared at me with a raised eyebrow. I pointed at her hair and she nodded, I moved closer to her raising my hand to touch her hair.
I ran my fingers through the silky and soft purple hair, as I was about ruffling it, she suddenly grabbed my hand.
"Don't" she said softly avoiding my gaze.
