Chapter 9 - Ch9 Movies

It had been 4 weeks since John had arrived in Hawkins and 2 weeks since he had slept with April. John spent every day getting closer to April. It was Friday, the fourth of November. Currently, John was sitting in class next to April, it was their last period before school was over.

John sat back bored out of his mind, while April hurriedly wrote down notes. They were currently in English class, and they were learning how to properly write a paper. They were learning how to cite sources and other boring crap. John was about to lose his mind when finally, the bell rang.

John looked over at April who was packing her things and smiled. John stood up and held hands with April as they walked out of the classroom. Many people had stopped picking on April, mainly because many of them saw John beat the shit out of Andrew. Also, John made Becky pee her pants in public, humiliating her.

John started to walk out of the classroom, but the teacher stopped him. He said, "I noticed you don't ever take notes, John."

John said, "Yeah?"

He said, "Is there a reason for that?"

John said, "Not really, I just know all of this already."

He said, "Well, make sure to pay attention."

John said, "Okay."

Then John walked out of the room. John said as he walked out, "Whatever, that guy's a total dink."

April said, "Don't be mean, John. He's just looking out for you."

John said, "Okay, bunny." April nodded her head as she leaned on John's shoulder. They walked down the halls and arrived in front of April's locker. Nancy and Barb were standing at their locker.

Barb said, "What's up, John?"

John said, "Nothing much."

Barb said, "You doing anything later?"

John said, "Not really, just gonna hang with April."

Barb said, "You should come with us to the movies then." Nancy gave Barb a look, but John wasn't paying them any mind.

John asked, "Do you want to, April?"

April said, "I have to help Aunt Lisa with something important tonight."

Barb said, "Well, John could still come with us. Right, April?"

April said, "Yeah, I don't see why not."

Barb said, "Great, meet us at the theater, at 7:00 pm."

John said, "Okay, see you then." John then walked away with April. John walked out of the school holding April, he was going to drop her off before he goes home.

Meanwhile, Nancy was talking with Barb quite heatedly. Nancy asked, "Why did you do that Barb? John is obviously with April."

Barb said, "Calm down, Nancy. It's just the movie, not makeout point."

Nancy said, "I care about April, I don't want to do anything that might hurt her."

Barb said, "Nancy, relax. It's just a movie."

Nancy started to calm down as Barb continued to placate her. Barb said, "And even if something happens between you and John, you can just apologize to April."

Nancy said, "Barb!"

Barb said, "Fine, fine." Nancy and Barb then walked out of the school and got into Barb's car. Barb drove Nancy to her house and dropped her off before she drove home. Nancy walked into her house through the front door and walked up stairs to her bedroom.

Nancy walked into her bedroom and immediately started to freak out. She ran to her closet and began to rifle through her clothes. Clothes went flying all over the room, her footsteps making quite a bit of noise as she was pacing around.

Karen heard the noise from downstairs, so she ran up the stairs holding Holly. Opening Nancy's bedroom door, she saw that the room was a mess. She was about to yell at Nancy, when she saw that Nancy looked very disheveled.

Karen asked, "What's wrong, sweetheart?"

Nancy said, "I don't have anything to wear tonight."

Karen said, "What's happening tonight?"

Nancy said, "I'm going to the movies with John."

Karen said, "Oh, I see. You're going on a date."

Nancy shook her head and said, "No, Barb is coming with us, but I want to look good."

Karen said, "Calm down, Nan. John doesn't seem to care about this type of stuff."

Nancy slumped her shoulders, as she held her face. Seeing her daughter like this, Karen said, "How about we look through some of my older clothes and you can find something to wear. Oh, and I can help you with your hair."

Nancy stood up and hugged Karen, smushing Holly a little. Karen smiled as she held her daughter, she hadn't felt this close to Nancy for a couple years. Karen let go and brought Nancy to her room, to look through her clothes. Eventually, Nancy found a purple shirt and a pearly white skirt. Karen pulled out some purple heels for her as well.

Nancy looked at her outfit before she walked with Karen to the bathroom and took a shower. When she finished, she wrapped herself in a towel. Karen then helped her style her hair. When they were finished, it was already 6:45 pm. They had taken a long time to get Nancy ready for tonight.

When they walked downstair, Mike just so happened to come inside through the front door. Dustin who was walking just behind Mike fell backwards when he saw Nancy. Lucas had to catch Dustin before he fell to the floor.

Mike said, "What's going on? Why is Nancy dressed up?"

Karen said, "Nancy is going to the movies with John." When Dustin heard this and clutched his chest, feeling heart broken. Will started to slap his face to wake him up, but it was no use. Lucas and Will carried Dustin to the basement.

Meanwhile, Mike said, "Whatever." Mike then walked away, following his friends.

Karen and Nancy were about to walk into the living room when the doorbell rang. Nancy walked to the door and opened it. Barb was standing outside and when she saw Nancy, she gave her a look.

Barb said, "Don't want to hurt her. Right?"

Nancy said, "What are you talking about? Let's go."

Barb sighed before she followed Nancy to her car. They both looked at John's driveway and saw that his car was gone. Barb started driving to the theater. When they arrived, they parked the car and got out. They walked into the entrance and looked around. After searching around for a while, they found John standing off to the side quietly. He was quite easy to find since he was so tall.

Observing John closely they saw that he was in a white button up shirt that was untucked and some black pants. He was also wearing some black dress shoes. They saw that many girls talked about John as they passed by, they even saw a girl walk towards John and talk to him. John talked to the girl for a while before the girl walked away with a down expression.

Finished stalking John, they walked over to him. Nancy said, "Hey, John. You look handsome."

Barb said, "Yeah, super dreamy."

John said, "Thanks, girls. So, what movie are we going to see?"

Nancy was about to speak but Barb interrupted her. Barb said, "We are seeing, Friday the Thirteenth." Nancy's face immediately scrunched up some.

John saw Nancy's face and said, "Are you sure? That movie is super scary isn't it."

Barb said, "We love scary movies. Right, Nancy?" Nancy nodded her head as her body began to shake a little."

John said, "Okay, if you say so. Come on." John then led them over to the ticket stand and bought 3 tickets for them.

Barb said, "I was going to pay. I invited you, after all."

John said, "Nonsense." Barb stopped trying to convince John. They walked through the doors and walked over to the concession stand.

While they waited in line, John asked, "So what do you want for snacks?" The girls kept quiet.

John said, "Come on, don't be shy."

Nancy said quietly, "I want some twizzlers and popcorn."

Hearing Nancy speak, Barb said, "I want some nachos and some peanut M&M's"

John said, "Okay." They waited for a couple minutes, before they arrived at the front of the line.

The cashier said, "What can I get for you today?"

John said, "A large Popcorn, Nachos, a pack of Twizzlers, Peanut M&M's, a pack of Butterfingers. And 3 Cokes"

The cashier said, "That will be 23 dollars." John handed the man a 50-dollar bill. Nancy and Barb saw this, and they were a little surprised. The cashier gave John his change and then began to move around behind the counter to grab all the stuff they wanted. The man set everything on the counter and each of them grabbed their snacks.

Then they walked to the hallway on the right and walked to theater number 3. They walked in =to the door and looked around for seats. They found some seats in the dead center of the theater and walked over. They sat down, John was in the middle and Nacy was on his left and Barb was on his right.

They got comfortable as the preview played for a couple minutes. John started to eat his butterfingers and soon they were gone. He may have given a couple to Nancy and Barb. Nancy shared her popcorn with John, it was super buttery and was just on the verge of being unpleasant.

The movie began and the sound of cricket was heard. It was currently nighttime, and the moon was shing brightly in the sky. The moon was partly covered by dark clouds. The camera zoomed in on a cabin as the word appeared on the screen introducing the audience to Camp Chrystal Lake.

Some singing was coming from within the cabin. Soon the camera showed the inside of the cabin showing a group of teens sitting by a fireplace and huddling together.

Nancy released a sigh of relief as she watched the normal teens. Having a good time together. Suddenly, the camera shifted and showed the outside of a cabin with an arrow on the door. The sound of footstep getting clearer and clearer as time passed. The camera moved towards the door as suspenseful music began to play. A hand reached forth and pushed the door of the cabin open revealing sleeping campers.

Nancy started to get nervous, so she moved closer to John and grabbed his arm. The person not shown within the frame of the camera moved around the room observing each of the girls sleeping inside. The person walked forward to a door in the back of the cabin with a red towel hanging on it. The person entered the door and then the camera shifted showing the campers once again. The camper had just finished their song.

Nancy sighed as she let go of John's arm. A blonde couple walks away from the main group, and you can see them kissing as the other campers began to sing again. The blonde couple snuck out of the cabin and went to a much more secluded area. The girl said, "Someone will see us." The man kissed her before he turned the lights on, and they ran up the stairs to continue their make out session.

Nancy calmed down even further but she still leaned closer to John. Barb was doing the same, even though she had picked the movie it didn't mean she liked horror movies. The camera shifted to the ground floor and footstep began to ring out. The person walked up the stairs, as the couple was fooling around. The girl notices someone watching them and tells the boy. The boy and girl separate as they both back away.

Nancy and Barb started to get scared. The person lunges toward the boy and the girl scream in terror. Nancy and Barb both clutched John's arms. Meanwhile, John was unfazed. He had dealt with zombies for many years, along with many crazy humans. This garbage would never be able to scare him.

The girl backed away with her hands raised, her face showing the fear she felt. The screen shows the boy fall to the ground holding his stomach as blood flowed out, staining his yellow shirt. Nancy cried out in fear along with many others.

The girl began to beg the assailant as she ran around the room trying to get away. The person didn't listen to her however and continued towards her. The girl threw boxes at the person, but it didn't affect them. The person pushed her to the floor as she screamed and then the person stabbed her. The movie paused showing the girls screaming face before it began to fade, and the movie title was shown.

Then the screen shifted and showed a bright day. Nancy released a sigh, but she didn't let go off John's arm. Barb said, "I can't handle this, I have to leave."

John said, "I thought you wanted to see this."

Barb said, "I changed my mind." Barb then ran out the theater, some other people following behind her.

John said, "Are you okay, Nancy?"

Nancy said, "Yeah, I'm fine."

John said, "Well, if it gets to be too much, we can always leave." Nancy nodded before she leaned her head on John's shoulder and looked at the screen.

The movie continued, showing a beautiful brunette on her way to Camp Chrystal Lake. The girl gets a ride from an old man halfway to the camp, but she is forced to walk the rest of the way. The girl walks for a while before a car comes towards her. She raises her thumb and the car actually stopped for her. She started to talk about herself, but then she notices that they missed the turn to the camp. The girl tells the driver to stop but he speeds up.

The girl was left with no other choice but to jump out of the speeding car. She gets out safely, however she hurt her leg. The driver stops the car and gets out before he chases after the girl. He eventually catches up to her. The girl begged for mercy, but it was no use. The driver slit her throat, the girls face showing her fear and unwillingness.

Nancy screamed and pushed her face into John's arm. John rubbed her head and Nancy began to calm down some. John said, "It isn't real Nancy, you don't have to worry." Nancy looked up at John with some tears in her eyes as she nodded.

The screen changed to some camp counselors that were at the camp early to set up for the campers. Nancy calmed down further and began to watch the movie. She never let go of John's arm though. The movie showed the camp owner leaving to go into town, while the counselors stayed behind to continue fixing the place up.

They got off track and began to swim, however. The driver was in the woods, looking at them from behind a tree. The counselors continued with no problem though. When they finished playing, they spent the rest of the day fixing the place up. When it got later, the sky started to darken, and a storm started to blow through the valley.

Two of the female counselors and one of the male counselors started to play strip monopoly as the rain hit the house making noise. Two of the counselors were in a different area and they were making love passionately as the rain poured down.

Nancy got a little bashful when she watched this scene, but she leaned closer to John. John looked down at the brunette, but he didn't move away. Nancy watched as the boy pushed his hips, causing the girl to moan. But Nancy regretted that she couldn't see anything serious as they were semi covered by a blanket.

When they stopped the girl got up and said, "I have to pee." The girl then put on a yellow raincoat and walked out of the cabin. A couple minutes later, the boy was seen having a knife to his throat. Nancy squeezed John's arm. John reached over and rubbed Nancy's head, causing her to shake a little less. The killer slit the boy's throat and blood gushed out.

The screen cut to the cabin with the other counselors wearing less clothes as they played Strip Monopoly. The game was cut short by the door blowing open and ruining the game. One of the girls remembered she forgot to close the windows on her cabin and ran out the door after putting on a jacket.

The movie continued for a while. Currently it was showing the girl who had run to her cabin. The girl closed her windows and started to get ready for bed. She lay down in her bad after turning off the lights. Leaving only a single candle lit for her to read. She started to read but she was interrupted when she heard a young boy scream out for help. The girl ignored it but when she heard it a second time she leaped out of bed, then she grabbed a flashlight.

She walked outside into the rain and began to look around, trying to find the boy who had cried out for help. She walked through the rain, getting completely soaked. The girl called out multiple times before she received a reply. She walked hurriedly to the source of the voice, arriving at a wooden structure. It was the archery range, she walked close to the target when suddenly many bright lights turned on surrounding her.

The sudden change in light caused her to be blinded, she called out, but no one replied to her. She began to back away slowly, but her back hit the archery target. Suddenly an arrow hit her in the chest pinning her against the target. She screamed as loudly as she could, but no one could hear her over the storm. Eventually she died in despair and grief.

Nancy was practically sitting on John's lap at this point. Nancy said, "John, can we leave? I can't take this anymore." John nodded and stood up; Nancy held onto him like her life depended on it. They walked out of the theater and out of the building. John led Nancy to his car, and they got in through the same door as Nancy was too scared to leave John's side.

John started to drive back to his house. When they arrived, John got out of the car with Nancy. They walked over to her house and rang the doorbell. Karen came to the door and saw the disheveled Nancy.

Nancy leapt into Karen's arms and started crying into her chest. Karen looked at John and said, "What happened?"

John said, "Barb insisted on watching a scary movie and everything was fine. Barb left after the first death scene, but we stayed after I asked Nancy if she wanted to leave. We watched most of the movie, but Nancy couldn't handle it." Nancy nodded into her mom's chest.

Karen said, "Okay, thank you for bringing her back."

John said, "No problem, see you soon." There were multiple meanings behind these words John chose. Karen nodded as John walked away. John walked to his house and went inside. Then he took a shower then went straight to bed.

Meanwhile, Karen was comforting Nancy as she lay down with her. Nancy soon fell asleep, and Karen left the room.
