Chapter 9: The Brave and the Bold (and the Idol's First Concert)
Starling City. The very air felt heavier, grittier, like a perpetual Monday morning. Adam, however, was thriving. "Ah, Starling," he declared, taking a deep breath of the surprisingly non-polluted air. "Home of the brooding hero, the questionable fashion choices, and enough emotional baggage to fill a U-Haul. Much better than Central City's 'everything is bright and shiny until it tries to kill you' vibe."
Jisoo, walking beside him, looked around with wide, curious eyes. "It's… very green. Like a forest, but with buildings. And why is everyone so serious? Even the pigeons look like they're brooding."
"It's the aesthetic, Jichu," Adam explained. "Grimdark. Very popular with the emotionally repressed vigilante crowd." He then caught sight of Oliver, practicing his archery, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Speaking of which. Time for a little… subtle intervention."
"System," Adam thought, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "Minor Wish: 'Untied Bowstring.' Target: Oliver Queen. Make it happen during a dramatic moment."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Minor Wish 'Untied Bowstring' Used. Cost: 10 Days. Current Wish Balance: 301 Days. Oliver's glare level: Critical.
Mid-draw, as Oliver was about to release an arrow with a dramatic flourish, his bowstring suddenly, inexplicably, untied itself, flapping uselessly. Oliver stared at it, then at his bow, then slowly, menacingly, looked around the Arrowcave. Adam, meanwhile, was whistling innocently, inspecting a dusty old trophy.
"You know," Felicity said, trying to stifle a giggle, "for a guy who's supposed to be a master archer, your equipment seems to have a mind of its own, Oliver."
The crossover continued, with Barry and Oliver clashing over methods while hunting Digger Harkness, Captain Boomerang. Oliver's willingness to use lethal force, his "darkness," was a stark contrast to Barry's optimism. Jisoo observed it all, a thoughtful expression on her face. "He is… complicated," she murmured to Adam, watching Oliver. "Like a very sad song that tries to be a rock anthem."
She quickly bonded with Felicity and Caitlin, forming a formidable "geek squad" trio. Jisoo, with her eidetic memory, was a quick study, soaking up hacking tips from Felicity like a sponge. "So, you just… tell the computer what to do?" she asked Felicity, her fingers flying across a keyboard with surprising speed. "Like a very obedient servant?"
"Basically!" Felicity chirped, delighted. "You're a natural, Jisoo!"
Later, during a tense stakeout, the air was thick with anticipation and the scent of stale coffee. Jisoo, bored, started humming a BLACKPINK song, a soft, melodic tune that cut through the silence.
"Hey, Jisoo," Cisco whispered, nudging her. "You should sing. Seriously. Your voice is amazing."
Felicity nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! Give us a concert, Jisoo-unnie!"
Jisoo looked at them, then at Adam, who was already beaming like a proud parent. She shrugged, a small, unbothered smile on her face. "Okay. But no throwing money. Only snacks."
And then, she sang. A full, powerful, impromptu rendition of "DDU-DU DDU-DU." Her voice filled the dreary warehouse, vibrant and alive, transforming the tense stakeout into a bizarre, private concert. Adam stood there, a flustered, delighted mess, mouthing the lyrics, completely lost in the moment. Even Oliver, who had initially looked annoyed, found himself tapping his foot, a faint, almost imperceptible smile playing on his lips.
"That was… surprisingly effective," Diggle admitted, looking bewildered.
"She's a national treasure," Adam whispered, still flushed. "My national treasure."
Later, Adam saw Oliver, brooding in a corner. "Okay, this is my chance. He's probably feeling all the angst from this grimdark city. Perfect customer."
"Ollie," Adam said, approaching him. "Still feeling that existential dread? That 'burden of heroism' vibe?"
Oliver glared. "What do you want, Adam?"
"I have a proposition," Adam said, leaning in conspiratorially. "A 'Temporary Inner Peace' wish. For you. A few hours of pure, unadulterated calm. No brooding. No guilt. Think of it as a mental vacation. For a very reasonable fee. Say, five hundred Wish Days."
Oliver scoffed. "You're serious?"
"As a heart attack," Adam confirmed. "Or a bus. Take it or leave it. But I'm telling you, it's worth it. Imagine, a few hours where you don't feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Just… zen."
Oliver, exhausted and clearly at his breaking point, stared at him for a long moment. Then, with a resigned sigh, he nodded. "Fine. Five hundred days. Just… make it stop."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Wish Trade successful. Customer: Oliver Queen. Wish: Temporary Inner Peace. System Estimate: 100 Days. Host Proposed Trade: 500 Days. Profit: 400 Days. Customer agreed. Wish granted. Current Wish Balance: 311 Days.
Adam practically did a little jig. "Four hundred days profit! Oliver Queen, my favorite brooding cash cow! This is the best day ever!" Oliver, meanwhile, suddenly looked… calmer. Confused, but calm. Like a perpetually angry cat who'd just found a sunbeam.
"This is going to be my most profitable venture yet," Adam thought, looking at his now substantial Wish Day balance. "And I got to see Jisoo perform. My life is truly blessed. Even in this grim, dark city."
