Chapter 11: The Nuclear Man (and Jisoo's Scientific Breakthrough)
"Ronnie Raymond is back!" Cisco practically shrieked, his voice a mixture of excitement and terror. "But he's… he's glowing! And he's merged with Professor Stein! It's like a superhero fusion dance, but with more existential dread!"
Adam, perched on a lab stool, meticulously peeling an orange, nodded sagely. "Ah, yes, the Firestorm matrix. Classic 'two souls, one body' trope. Very dramatic. Very... nuclear. You know, like a really intense K-drama where the two leads share a single brain cell. Except here, it's a nuclear reactor." He glanced at Caitlin, whose face was a mask of utter heartbreak. "So, Caitlin, how's the 'ex-fiancé turned human fusion bomb' situation treating you? Because I'm getting serious 'it's complicated' vibes."
Caitlin just gave him a withering look, her eyes red-rimmed. "Adam, please. This is Ronnie."
"I know, I know," Adam sighed, genuinely sympathetic beneath his usual sarcasm. "Just trying to lighten the mood. You know, like a clown at a funeral. A very, very inappropriate clown."
Jisoo, however, was a silent, comforting presence beside Caitlin. She gently placed a hand on Caitlin's arm. "Caitlin-unnie," she said softly, her voice a balm. "He is back. That is good. Even if he is… glowing. And with a new friend inside him."
Caitlin leaned into Jisoo's touch, finding solace in her quiet empathy. "It's just… he's not himself. And General Eiling is after him."
"Eiling," Adam grumbled, remembering the general's previous attempts to weaponize metahumans. "That guy needs a hobby. Or maybe a smaller uniform. System, Minor Wish: 'Shrinking Uniform.' Target: General Wade Eiling. Make it happen during his next public appearance. Or a very important meeting."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Minor Wish 'Shrinking Uniform' Used. Cost: 10 Days. Current Wish Balance: 341 Days. Eiling's rage level: Exploding.
As the team struggled to understand the merged Firestorm matrix, Ronnie and Stein's personalities clashing, Jisoo, who had been quietly observing their energy fluctuations, suddenly spoke up. "The… the energy," she said, pointing a finger at the monitors. "It's like… two different songs trying to play at the same time. But they are not harmonizing. They need a… a bridge. A chord."
Cisco frowned. "A chord? Jisoo, this is nuclear physics, not a music lesson."
"No, she's right!" Caitlin suddenly exclaimed, her eyes widening. "The resonant frequency! If we can find a way to harmonize their individual frequencies, we can stabilize the matrix!"
Adam stared at Jisoo. "She just figured out Firestorm's problem. With a music analogy. My genius queen."
Later, after a particularly emotional outburst from Caitlin, Adam approached her. "Hey, Cait," he said, his voice softer than usual. "You look like you've been run over by a very large, very emotional truck. And then that truck backed up and did it again."
Caitlin sighed, rubbing her temples. "I just… I can't. It's too much."
"I might have a solution," Adam offered, lowering his voice. "A temporary one. A 'Wish' to alleviate emotional distress. Just for a while. Give you a break. For, say, a hundred days."
Caitlin looked at him, surprised. "A hundred days? What are you talking about?"
"Cosmic self-care," Adam shrugged. "Think of it as a mental spa day. No strings attached. Just… peace. For a bit."
Desperate for any respite, Caitlin nodded. "Fine. Just… make it stop."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Wish Trade initiated. Customer: Caitlin Snow. Wish: Emotional Respite. System Estimate: 50 Days. Host Proposed Trade: 100 Days. Profit: 50 Days. Customer agreed. Wish granted. Current Wish Balance: 351 Days.
Caitlin blinked. A strange calm washed over her, a quiet stillness that settled her racing thoughts. She still felt the pain, but it was distant, muffled. A strange, fleeting relief.
Adam grinned. "Money in the bank. And a slightly less traumatized Caitlin. Win-win." He watched as General Eiling, on a news report, suddenly clutched at his uniform, looking bewildered as his pants seemed to tighten. "Oh, that's right. The shrinking uniform. Perfect timing."
