"Damnit!" Oracle cursed while slamming her fists on the desk causing the entire thing to shake. She looked at the data she was seeing and her anger only grew. Years of work down the drain because someone managed to sneak in. It pissed her off to no end. After a few more seconds of stewing in anger she reached forward and turned off the computer before rolling back and grabbing her coat.
As she rolled into the elevator he pressed a button and it began descending. As it did she heard her phone and pulled it out. "Yeah," She answered, too annoyed and tired to even give her name.
"Miss Gordon, I hope you do not mind. But I was hoping I could get your assistance in testing something." The person on the other end asked. She pulled the phone away and looked at the caller ID and saw it was blocked. That should not have been possible, at least not with her phone security.
"Who is this?" Barbara asked as she brought the phone back up to her ear.
"We are a research group with research in experimental technologies. The one we are currently working on should be of great interest to you, especially with your history as a gymnast." The man explained to her.
Barbara scoffed, "if you think that then you obviously do not know that I got paralyzed from the waist down."
"Oh we are aware. In fact that was the main reason we wanted to reach out. We have a procedure and a cybernetic technology that should have you up and walking again." The man declared, causing Barbara to freeze.
Then she frowned and then scowled. "I have been down this road before with people offering something similar before." Barbara looked at the lights and saw she was almost at the ground floor. "So I apologize but I am going to need a bit more proof than just your word."
"I plan to provide such proof. But I assume you would like to know why we picked you as our test candidate?" The man asked with a chuckle that she found ominous.
"I would, especially since I live in Gotham and there are plenty of other candidates available for you to have." Barbara pointed out as the elevator dinged and the doors opened up. She began rolling out and going to her jeep that was sitting in the garage while the elevator doors closed. They were disguised so no one could see them easily.
"Because of your reputation as Batgirl." That caused her to freeze and look in confusion at the phone.
"I have no idea what you are talking about-"
"Oh there is no need to lie Miss Gordon. We have known about Mister Wayne's nightly activities for years. But we have no reason to really care. But you, on the other hand, can be incredibly useful for this test operation and technologies. But mostly I was just asked to call you as a distraction." The man told her.
Barbara realized a second too late that there was someone behind her. She barely managed to turn her head before she was blacking out.
She was waking up with a painful headache a few hours later. She slowly pulled herself up and found she was now dressed in a hospital gown. She knew a few hours had passed because there was a digital clock above the door. It was nine at night when she left the clocktower. But now it was eleven in the morning. She had been missing for at least half a day.
At this point someone would have noticed that she had gone missing. Most likely it would be Harley, Bruce, Damien, Tim, Cassandra, or one of the other Birds of Prey. She did not talk to her father daily like she talked to them. She just had to worry about how she was going to get out of here.
There was a crackle and she looked to the corner of the room to see a speaker. "I apologize for the wait Miss Gordon. We needed for you to wake up before we could begin the procedure." It was the same voice as before.
She did not even wait a moment before the door slid open and a number of large built people in white walked in. They were unmarked and had every inch of their body covered. As one got close she reached out to grab his arm.
But instead she was yanked upward and dragged towards the door. She immediately began struggling. "Let go of me you damn pricks!" She screamed and yelled the entire way to the surgical suite. She could not see anything aside from black numbers above doors and a few vents.
Once she was inside they put her on the surgical table and then began strapping her down her facing towards the table. She tried to twist out but quickly realized that her legs were strapped to the table as well. She would only injure herself if she kept trying.
"Calm down, Miss Gordon." This time she could hear the man's voice and looked over to see a person covered in mostly white. But this time they had a pair of glasses that allowed her to see their blue eyes and blue surgical gloves. "At this point you can only accept the gift we are giving you.
He stepped away going towards the back of the table. She could tell he was doing something but quickly realized what that was when she shivered when he touched the middle of her back where feeling began fading.
She then felt something like a marker against her skin. "I apologize but we need to know where your nerves end. Now we can really start on the work. But I feel like I should warn you that this will be painful but it would be best to grit through the pain. Especially when the feeling in your body comes back."
He was right. Barbara saw no way out of this aside from being saved. Her best bet would just be to stay awake as long as possible.
