Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Sis, Please Be the Witness at Our Wedding

I laughed in anger, turning my eyes to the hustle and bustle of the street. After a while, when my mind calmed down a bit, I turned back to mock, "Adrian Gordon, I'm not a garbage dump here. No matter how much I loved you in the past, how much I sacrificed for you, from the day you decided to betray me, you no longer deserve my love."

I turned to leave but couldn't help myself, turning back to point at him and added, "Even if all the men in the world were dead, I wouldn't look at you again, disgusting."

Perhaps it was my resolute attitude that stabbed Adrian Gordon a little. He suddenly stepped forward to grab me and began to plead, "Lily, I love you. These six years of feelings are engraved in my heart, unforgettable for life. But Sophie is dying. She's so miserable and pitiful. Her dying wish is just such a small one..."

"Let go!"

"Lily, I swear that when Sophie—"

"Slap!" I didn't wait for him to finish those disgusting words, raising my hand and giving his face a hard slap on the other side.

Now, it's symmetrical, and his handsome face looks even more ridiculous.

"Adrian Gordon, considering I've shed so much blood for you, be a decent person and stop disgusting me!" With these words, I turned around and walked away without hesitation.

I didn't inform my friends and family about the wedding's cancellation, only telling my grandma and aunt.

Grandma is nearly eighty years old. Having suffered the blows of grandpa and my mother's deaths, she has been in poor health, deteriorating day by day over the years.

I thought the news would be too much for the old lady, causing her body to break down.

Who knew, grandma was very open-minded, only saddened and angry for a while, then comforted me: "It's a good thing to see through such a person early. Otherwise, it would hurt even more to have a family and children first and then face a crisis, implicating the children too. You're young and beautiful, with a good career, no rush, we'll take our time finding someone trustworthy. Even if we don't, as long as you live well, grandma supports you."

Aunt said grandma's eyes might be dim with age, but her heart is bright and clear.

The old lady had long seen through the truths of men and marriage from my mother's failed life.

With the comfort and support from grandma and aunt, I felt much better and quickly cheered up, immediately returning to work at the company.

Now, I've become the company boss, and I need to work hard for myself.

After finishing the morning meeting, I had just returned to my office when my assistant, Cherry, knocked and came in.

"Ms. Lily, President Gordon is here."

I was stunned. Adrian Gordon came to the company?

I hadn't had time to ask why he came when Adrian Gordon appeared at my office door.

I waved my hand, signaling Cherry to continue her work.

Adrian Gordon came in but only stood at the door without approaching, explaining, "I'm here to pick Sophie up from discharge. Passing by, I came up to get my things."

Though he didn't come to work every day before, he did have an office with some of his things inside.

I paid no attention, calmly withdrew my gaze, and continued working.

Seeing I ignored him, Adrian Gordon felt awkward and left, closing the door behind him.

A few seconds later, my office door was knocked on again.

I looked up, only to find Sophie standing at the door.

What is she here for?

My expression was unfriendly, and I said flatly, "Adrian Gordon is not here with me. If you want to find him, go to his office."

Sophie came in, closed the door, and softly said, "Sis, I'm here to see you."

I frowned, looking at her in confusion.

A moment later, I suddenly understood and sarcastically asked, "What else do you want me to give you?"

Having taken my husband, wedding dress, jewelry, and even the entire wedding—wasn't she satisfied yet?

Sophie walked in slowly, her small face pale, seeming as if she could faint at any moment.

I didn't understand. In her current state, shouldn't she be lying in the hospital, or did she give up treatment?

"Sis, I want you to be the witness at our wedding. Your identity is special. Only if you witness and bless us in public will the guests not say anything..." Sophie stopped before my desk and opened her mouth gently, but her words were shocking.

As soon as I heard, my mind buzzed!

"Sophie, you—" Anger simmered, I laughed coldly, stood up, and looked at her. Several times I tried to organize my words but couldn't suppress the surging rage.

"Do you have any shame? Aren't you afraid of being pointed and cursed at by all the relatives and friends at the wedding?" My voice was full of ridicule. If not for seeing her about to crumble, I'd really want to slap her, slap her so hard she'd be stuck to the wall, left there to be chiseled out!

It's outrageous!

Sophie began to cry, sobbing, "Sis... From childhood to now, you've always been better than me, excelling in everything, I envied you, I was jealous... I'm the most useless, and now I've got a terminal illness... I just want to marry Brother Adrian before I die, have a happy and complete wedding... Sis, after I die... Brother Adrian is yours again, I can't take him away..."

I couldn't bear it anymore, raised my hand to point at the door, "You go, hurry and leave, don't force me to slap you."

"Sis..." Sophie cried even more sorrowfully, circling the desk to come to my side, gripping my arm and pleading bitterly, "Please help me, I know I took many things from you before, you hate me... I apologize, I'm sorry... Just this last time, please help me..."

"Let go." I couldn't stand her touching, nor listen to these words destroying my principles.

"Sis... I'm begging you..."

"Let go!" Seeing her ignoring the advice, still grabbing my arm and pleading, I suddenly got angry, shaking her off fiercely.

"Ah!" Only to see Sophie cry out miserably, her whole body collapsing like a puppet with its strings cut, I instinctively reached out to grab her, but it was too late.

She fell heavily.

And coincidentally, Adrian Gordon pushed the door open just in time to witness this!

"Sophie!" His face turned stern, rushing up anxiously.

"Sophie, how are you? Where does it hurt? Quickly tell me..." He carefully picked Sophie up, panicking, feeling utterly helpless.

I stared blankly at this scene, wanting to explain but found it unnecessary.

The look on Adrian Gordon's face told me that any explanation would be futile.

Sure enough, after picking up Sophie, Adrian Gordon looked at me, saying sternly and angrily, "Lily Miller! Do you have any idea what her condition is? And you still lay hands on her! Are you even human? She's still your sister no matter what else she's done wrong!"

"Brother Adrian, don't scold my sister... She didn't do it on purpose..." Sophie, lying weakly in Adrian Gordon's arms, defended me.

I couldn't stop sneering inwardly, my face expressionless, calmly saying, "Hurry and get lost, don't die in my territory, it's bad luck."

Adrian Gordon's pupils shocked, obviously not expecting me to say such a venomous thing.

"Lily Miller, you're so unfamiliar to me! It's me who wronged you, but abusing an innocent dying person, aren't you afraid of retribution?"

I laughed, defiantly countering, "You're the ungrateful one, you made all these mistakes, if you're not afraid of retribution, why should I be?"

Adrian Gordon wanted to speak again, but Sophie groaned painfully, "Brother Adrian..."

He looked down to see blood at Sophie's mouth corner, growing even more anxious, "Sophie, hold on, I'll take you to the hospital now, hold on!"
