Cherry slowly opened her eyes.
A magnificent chandelier came into view.
She looked around.
The room was large and elegant.
It was nothing like the small, dark cell where she had been locked up.
She had been moved somewhere else.
As she pushed herself up, a sharp pain shot through her left foot.
She cried out.
"Miss..."
A fair-skinned woman in a simple, neat outfit hurried over.
She looked Chinese.
"You can't move yet. Your wound is serious," the woman said in Mandarin.
Cherry gave her an apologetic smile.
"I don't understand Mandarin. Please speak English."
The woman nodded.
"You can't move yet," she repeated in broken English. "Your wound... very serious."
Cherry glanced down.
She was wearing a thin satin nightgown.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She quickly checked herself.
Nothing felt wrong.
She let out a quiet breath.
"W-Where are my clothes?"
"I washed them," the woman replied. "They were dirty."
Relief washed over Cherry.
Nothing had happened to her.
