Cherry clenched her fists and glared at Elijah through her tears.
"She only wanted to go home," she cried. "What's wrong with that?"
"That's exactly why I killed her," Elijah said calmly, as if he were talking about nothing important.
He looked at her injured leg.
"Come on. I need to treat your wound."
He reached for her.
Cherry's eyes flashed.
She grabbed the pistol from his waist and pointed it at him.
"I'm not going with you!"
Her hand shook.
She stepped back, but her injured leg gave out.
She fell onto the concrete road.
Her palm scraped against the rough ground.
Even so, she held the gun tightly.
She never looked away from Elijah.
"I won't go with a murderer like you!"
The smile slowly disappeared from Elijah's face.
"Cherry," he said quietly. "Do you know what you're doing?"
"I do!"
She tightened her grip on the gun.
"How many terrible things have you done just to get what you want?"
A thought suddenly hit her.
She remembered Paco.
