Chapter 1 - Aweaking ceremony

The awakening platform stood in the heart of the Moungen kingdom.

A sacred place where fate is revealed.

Kids crowded around the gleaming crystal of Fate, their eyes filled with fear and wonder. Today their future would be decided.

Among them stood Arthur, a small, frail boy with pale blonde hair and a cane supporting his trembling leg. He looked around nervously feeling the weight of unfamiliarity pressing down on him.

Just a few days ago he had awakened in this world, reincarnated into the body of a boy named Arthur.

That had also been his name in his past life too. Arthur McCall but here he is without a last name.

He knew nothing of this world, its rules and its people. All he knew was that Arthur had a mother; he barely saw. and they lived in a worn down home on the outskirts of the kingdom.

But judging by the worn clothes and empty cupboard he knew their situation was dire.

Arthur looked around him as different faces looked at him and whispered. He understood what they meant, not that he was a reincarnator. But because he was crippled.

Why is he here? Are cripples also allowed to join?" the kids that were dressed in fancy robes whispered.

While some just spat in his way, Arthur sighed.

Arthur was not the only one dressed in rags, they were other kids who were dressed like him, but at least they weren't mocked.

He had wished for a good life, before he died he had prayed to be reborn as a complete human with a healthy body but instead the gods thrust him into this uncertain world he wasn't used to.

Crippled again in this world, he had learned that the Arthur in this world also lived like him. This world was supposed to be a new beginning, but fate didn't agree with him.

He was just born to suffer, He remembered the car crash that killed him.

His so-called friends pushed him into a running vehicle, and how he couldn't run for it with his crippled leg.

That memory, that betrayal, burned into his soul.

Arthur.

The cursed name he was given then, he

had it again.

He should have never attended, Arthur thought, as he tried to keep his head down.

A knight appeared on the platform beside the crystal. Holding forth a long scroll.

Arthur wondered what it was.

Recently he had been called to attend this ceremony not that he knew what it meant, but it was the order of the king and also a(must) for every kid to attend to awaken their ability.

Though he knew this world was different from his previous world.

Here it is, horse instead of a car, and soldiers here are called knights. Even the houses were built in old bricks, and the palace that is visible in the outskirts of the kingdom is old, but big and wider, they wore robes instead of suits and hoodies.

Arthur knew all this and he had gotten used to it, in the few days he had awakened here. But he didn't hear about ability or magic, he had always thought they were myths but somehow he is going to experience it.

The knight stepped forward in front of the crystal.

"Hey everyone, as you all know today is the day every kid of this kingdom had waited for and the day is here. And from the direct order of the king of Moungen we are to begin the awaken ceremony" The knight finished and stepped backwards when another knight brought out a globe, and placed it beside the crystal.

"Now we will begin the ceremony" The knight holding the scroll announced. As the kids split into two lines. Those that wore fancy robes and those that wore rag like him.

He didn't understand any of this, he looked around him, as the fancy kid all chat around happily.

"Hey" a kid around Arthur's age called him.

"You are new here right?" The boy asked as he lined behind Arthur. "I am razel"

Arthur wasn't sure if he should tell him his name. But he went ahead and said his name. "I am Arthur"

Razel nodded. He is shorter than Arthur, more robust and he had brown hair, dark green eyes and a round small face.

"I could tell you know nothing of all this right?" Razel asked.

Arthur looked dumbfounded at the robust boy. "Yeah I am just a little confused"

"Well it how it should be, That is the discrimination between the noble and the commoner races. Those there are the noble we here are the commoner"

"What?" Arthur shouted. Which made other kids glare at him.

He shut up.

Razel laughed. "Well here the noble are the only ones likely to awaken an ability and a class. Because they are the ones who are mostly blessed with mana. While we commoners are a few selected by that crystal"

He pointed at the crystal. "It's called Crystal of Fate for a reason. Because it awakens your ability and if you are capable of a worthy mana then you are fortunate. Well all nobles are fortunate while we commoners struggle and pray that we get awakened, and that our mana is worthy. Because it is a hard Fate for those that can't awaken. They are called goulers.

"Goulers?" Arthur wondered.

"Being a commoner is okay. But after the awakening, if you fail… they are called gouler. They use you or probably me if I fail now for the cleaning team.

And sometimes, They can also be used as decoy for missions. Dangerous right?" Razel laughed.

Arthur looked at this strange boy, his dark green eyes looked sad. Arthur could feel pain there but he masks it up again.

"Well we should try our best and not be goulers. We should keep our hope, alive" razel said, slapping Arthur on the shoulder.

Arthur nodded. He wasn't sure but at least he was going to try for once in his life.

"Arthur" Arthur saw from the noble group a familiar face he had seen the night before, john, his step brother. Well his supposed step brother.

John smiled at him. "I hope you awaken and not b a gouler"

Arthur looked away.

"Now come forth" the knight announced. A noble kid stepped up on the platform. He placed his hand on the globe, which glowed brighter than the crystal gleamed a blue light.

The knight looked inside the scroll then he announced. "Kael, s class, necromancer"

The kids from the noble lines clapped.

Kael laughed.

Then he got down from the stage. Then another kid, and another kid. Arthur watched as different of them went up the platform and awakened their class and ability. The knight kept reading their class from the scroll.

"There are many paths of an awaken", razel said behind Arthur. " And they have a system based on their ranks. Well, their ranks aren't determined now. But when they start training they are in the top five paths that are considered the strongest ability in the kingdom and beyond. Necromancer, element wielder ( mist, water), mage, and healer, they are all I know of, and you can only have one ability."

Why is he telling me? Arthur thought.

"I guess you should know. Because you don't seem from here" razel said smiling at Arthur.

"Razel" the knight called. Razel answered, then looked at Arthur. "Wish me luck, and I also wish you luck" then he raced up to the platform. The noble kids whispered among themselves.

Razel didn't pay attention to them, he placed his hand on the globe which glowed brighter. The crystal gleamed green.

"B class, healer" the knight announced. The commoner roared with shouts.

Arthur smiled. Razel beamed, many commoners were called and some of them awakened while some failed. Arthur feels bad for them because they are gonna be goulers of society.

Then it was his turn, Arthur climbed up the platform. He looked back and saw John, who was beaming wickedly at him.

He can do it. Arthur breathed, he can awaken, after all he is from a noble family.

Some didn't even know razel didn't know.

He placed his hand on the crystal which shone brighter.

Please, he begged. Let me be awakened, I can't afford to be a loser in this world.

The crystal gleamed black.

The crowd gasped. They had never seen the color like this before.

It was the first. The knight looked at the scroll then he loo

ked back at Arthur.

"Non class ranked. No ability I am sorry Arthur you don't have a worthy mana"
