The battle began suddenly and ended in the same manner. Once Cate joined the battle, everything reached a swift conclusion that very few had expected.
Cate got back inside the wandering palace and left this place before more trouble could find her. There were very few people she was scared of, but these people still existed. Now that her identity as Medusa had somehow leaked to the temple, it would only be a matter of time before everyone knew that Medusa had returned. She could already see "heroes" coming after her head in the name of goodness and all that is right.
The wandering palace merged with space and disappeared.
Seamless Realm
It had been days since Galeazzo, Cate's incarnation, infiltrated the Staranse Mage clan. She had used this time to make herself familiar with life in this new world, gathering as much information as she could. On this day, she was summoned to attend a council meeting.
After Galeazzo returned to the clan, he was given a position on the Imperial Council. This council was meant to guide the emperor by advising them on all sorts of matters such as finance, war, and other matters. There were seven council members, and Cate was now one of them. Cate was now the War Councilor. All matters that had to do with war now had to go through her. She would not only advise the emperor, she would monitor the imperial legions and the many soldiers. She would ensure that they had the needed resources and received the best training possible. Cate eagerly accepted this position since it gave her access to a wide range of information.
On the other hand, the emperor had given this position to his troublesome nephew in order to bring him under his control. As the war councilor, Cate / Galeazzo had to report to the emperor on a daily basis, briefing him about the situation of the many legions and areas for improvement. One might think that the war councilor held great power over the empire, but they would be wrong.
The Seamless Empire was set up in a world separate from the Mortal world and any other world. In this world, everything was under the rule of the Staranse Mage clan. There were no enemies to fight off, and as such, the Imperial Legions were not a priority in the empire. The legions had been reduced from 300 to a mere 13, and the soldiers reduced from 900,000 to 13,000. This made a lot of sense since the clan no longer lived in the Mortal realm. To enter the seamless realm, even a god would have to get the Seamless Emperor's permission first. The empire was safe, and thus fewer soldiers were needed. With this position, Cate / Galeazzo could not join his father's faction to oppose the emperor. He was tied down. This was what the emperor hoped to achieve.
On this day, Cate was the last to reach the council hall. The emperor and the other six councilors were already seated around the wooden circular table. Above the table was a screen conjured using magecraft. It seemed to be made of air and water. On the screen, Cate was surprised to see the Wandering Palace being attacked by sacrificed warriors. Galeazzo / Cate took her seat and watched the battle just like everyone else.
Many people noticed that she did not bow to the emperor. They thought that the rebellious nephew was already showing his claws. Even the emperor entertained these thoughts. These people did not know that Cate had simply forgotten that she had to bow to the emperor every time she met the man.
The battle on the screen progressed rapidly. The werewolves appeared and pulled the wandering palace to the ground. Soon, Cate came out of the palace and unleashed her power on the attackers. The battle soon came to an end, and the wandering palace broke through space and disappeared. The screen collapsed, leaving everyone in the hall with many thoughts on their minds.
Cate did not know why these people were so interested in the wandering palace, but she could guess a few things. She had gotten a lot of information in recent days, and from that, she learned that the Staranse Clan indeed had the third part of the Key of Destiny. This was the key she had come for. Surprisingly, Cate learned that the key of destiny that the Staranse Mage clan had was of limited use to them. The complete key of destiny was a very powerful artefact, but the clan had only one of the three keys needed to make the complete Key of Destiny.
The reason the key was of limited use was due to the fact that the Clan had failed to come up with a treasure like the wandering palace. This would have allowed them to harness the power of the key much more fully, making the key one of their most powerful treasures. This was not the case. The clan had been trying to create a suitable treasure, but it had been years since they began, with all attempts ending in failure. As the war councilor, Cate got access to all this research, and she could see where they had gone wrong and how to fix their issue. Still, she had no intent of helping the enemy.
Cate also learned that the Staranse Mage clan wanted to get their hands on the Doom Spell. Cate had heard of this spell a long time ago, but she dismissed it to be a rumor since the power described was simply far too great. She could not believe that such a spell was possible. Even though magic seemed infinite, it had many limits, and this was why the magicians and other supernatural creatures could never be as powerful as the gods.
The Doom Spell was said to have been created by Hades, the lord of the underworld. Just from its name, one could imagine the kind of destruction this spell could bring to the world. It was said that if one were ever to get their hands on this spell and use it, they would not only have a limitless life span, they would also have enough destructive power to face a god and survive. This was unheard of.
In the past, Cate was also interested in this spell, but she had to give up since no one knew where this spell was kept, and going to the underworld to demand an answer from Hades was a death sentence. In recent days, Cate had come to learn more about the Doom Spell and its possible location.
