Chapter 16 - the destined bride

Lana followed Kairos into the carriage, the ride was quiet, deep down she felt relieved he didn't just swing his sword and sent heads rolling down like some maniac

"I would have preferred her head on a spike, but I don't want you blaming yourself for another person's death" Kairos said gazing at her

Lana looked away, she didn't know if she should be grateful or even more weary of him now, now they were in a close space together his gaze burned her skin, there was always this skeptical look in his eyes yet they were mixed with something else was it curiosity?

Opening the curtains she stared outside until she slowly dozed off

Kairos stared at her sleeping face changing his sitting position he sat next to her so she won't hit her head on the window gently placing her head on his shoulder

Arriving at the castle Kairos picked her up gently carrying her straight to her room, placing her on the bed, covering her with the blanket he sat by her bed gazing at her sleeping face

She must have been exhausted from the long carriage ride

"Tch...so fragile yet you act like you're unbreakable" he whispered pushing away the hair on her face

Walking out of the the room, towards his study a cloaked figure appeared behind him "what did you find"

"Your majesty, there was a couple that fled from here using a portal twenty years ago but we haven't confirmed if they were her parents"

Narrowing his gaze "alright keep investigating" he said

"Yes your majesty" the cloaked figure vanished

Kairos continued down the hallway, he was skeptical about Lana's true identity. before his mother died, she was a sorceress who gave up practicing magic to be with his father

She had told him of a sorceress destined to be his bride, on her death bed she put all her magic in that pendant and told him, the necklace will find her and she alone can command the power in it

Kairos suspected Lana to be the one, he monitored her throughout her stay in the palace but she hadn't shown any signs of magic he was beginning to believe she's not the one he's been searching for

Walking into his study, his right hand man Dalton stood by his chair, arranging some documents on his table

"Did you find out anything" he asked

"Not yet" Kairos replied, taking a sit

"How was your visit" Dalton asked walking to his chair "I'm surprised you aren't covered in blood that's new"

Kairos glared at him "it's a miracle that I still keep you alive" he retorted

Dalton glanced at him, Kairos was changing and it was all because of that woman he brought here, he wondered if she'll be able to redeem him or become one of the dead skulls in the dungeon

Lana opened her eyes, looking around she wondered how she got into bed, a man was standing next to her bed packing his suitcase

"W...who are you?" She asked

The man turned to her surprised she was awake "finally you are awake" he said

Lana was confused, what did he mean finally "how long have I been asleep" she said touching her head

"You've been asleep for three days" he replied closing his bag

Lana turned to him alarmed "three days?!" She exclaimed, how did she sleep for three whole days, was it that her body shut down due to her health

"I'll inform his majesty that you have regained consciousness" saying that he bowed and left the room

Lana watched him close the door behind him as he left, she looked down on her palms, things were getting weird, she felt it her body was changing somehow or maybe she was just over thinking

Hearing the door open, she turned to see Kairos walk in, his hand in his pocket with a serious look on his face

"How are you feeling" he asked sitting on the chair next to her bed

"Better...I think" Lana replied slowly

Kairos gaze narrowed making him look even more serious and worried "do you feel strange" he asked

Lana paused, she wanted to tell him she did but she didn't know how to describe the feeling deciding to just keep it to herself

"No I feel lighter"

Kairos glanced at her, he could tell she was lying but he let it go he would find out the truth sooner or later

"Stay in bed for a while till you regain your strength, then you'll resume your work as my personal maid"

"Yes your majesty" she replied

"I'll send for a maid to bring you food" Kairos said getting up to leave the room

Pausing for a second he turned "stick with me Lana if you hope to get home" he said walking out the door

Lana shivered, did he mean home home or heaven home, gulping she laid back on the bed to wait for her meal.
