Chapter 3 - Government

John POV

As I waited inside the house, the man in the middle suddenly called out, "Come out! I know you're inside that house!"

'How'd he know?' I thought to myself.

But thinking about it now, the boy beside the man in the middle called him an Admiral. Are they perhaps part of a government?

Good guy? Perhaps for the uneducated civilians, yes. But for a criminal like me?

However, in the end, can I really escape from 20 people in an open flat terrain?

I placed my hands along with my rifle outside the window as a sign of surrender. All the men in white readied themself to shoot, but the one in the middle only smiled. Though that smile only lasted a few seconds as he asked me, "Did you do this?"

I shook my head and responded, "Nah. But I can sure show ya who did it."

"At ease." The man said.

The men beside him put down their weapons simultaneously, but still gave me a suspicious look.

I dropped my weapon outside the window and bent over to show the head of the bandit. The men tensed up and were about to raise their weapons once more, until the man in the middle stopped them.

"Whoa now, easy there fellas. These here're bandits I put in the ground. They're the ones behind all this killin'. I'm just a bounty hunter passin' through, chasin' the reward. But by the time I got here, it was too damn late… ended up buryin' the innocent instead."

The man gestured to one of the men in white to do something. He ran where they came from while the man in the middle introduced himself, "My name is Monkey D. Garp, a Marine Vice Admiral passing by."

'So they're from the Marines…' I thought to myself.

Although I did not know what type of Marines they were, since this is a new world, but I could guess that they are a Government organization.

'Worth remembering.' I thought to myself.

"Pleasure to meet ya, Mr. Garp—but what d'you reckon I oughta do with these disgustin' creatures?" I said, lifting the heads up in my hands.

Garp smiled and responded, "We'll have to verify if those really are wanted bandits."

I nodded in understanding. And not a second later, Garp began dispatching his men to search the area. Once everyone was gone and only Garp and a man with a suit and a hat were left, Garp walked towards me and asked me, "I never got your name."

"John Marston," I responded.

Garp scratched his chin and said, "Hmmm… Your name sounds oddly familiar. Are you perhaps a famous bounty hunter?"

I chuckled, "I sure as hell doubt that."

Garp smiled and asked me one more question, "Say, John, you ever thought about joining the Marines?"

Me? Joining a government-owned organization? That's like the church asking a gay man to be the Pope… Maybe that wasn't the best analogy, but the point is, it doesn't match.

"Sorry, Mr. Garp, but I ain't fixin' to slave away for no damn government."

I bullshited my way through that question. I don't even know if the Marines really worked for the government; it was just a speculation. But with this, I can confirm or not. No matter what country, planet, or universe, there will always be some who will refuse the government.

However, to my surprise, Garp laughed, "Bahahahahha! I wouldn't either!"

I raised an eyebrow and asked jokingly, "Then why the hell you work for the Marines, huh?

Garp's face turned solemn, "We all got different justice."

The moment he said those words, the man he sent out earlier came back with a book. The book was thick, and once he opened one of the pages, a face that looked similar to 2 of the bandits showed up.

[Name: Tide Krall

Bounty: 7,000,000

Dead or Alive]

[Name: Jimmy Toy

Bounty: 1,180,000

Dead Or Alive]

After verifying the bandits, Garp pulled out a bag full of berries and gave it to me, "There, 8 million berries."

I took the money and tipped my hat and said, "Well, Mr. Garp, real pleasure meetin' ya too—but I best be on my way."

POV Ends

-----------------

As John Marston walked away, a man suddenly appeared behind Garp and asked, "Why'd you ask him to join the Marines, Dad? The bandits he killed weren't much; they got their bounty mostly from killing.

Garp laughed, "He might be weak, but his heart is in the right place."

Garp turned to his right and saw the graves dug up by one man, John Marston.
