Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR

Alone in the moonlit garden, I knew the clock was striking midnight somewhere. The air was cool and still, filled with a strange energy. Inside me, anticipation was building, a primal pulse in my veins. I was there to meet the stranger, and I couldn't understand why he would want to be so close to me, why his smell, now very strong, called to my wolf so powerfully. All the while, I listened for footsteps, and my heart skipped a beat, beating fast against my ribs.

The stranger came out of the dark. His eyes focused deeply on mine, making goosebumps rise all over my skin. His smell was now pure, wild Alpha, filling my lungs. "You're here," he said, his voice low, almost thick with a basic hunger. I nodded, feeling all my defenses drop, stripped away by his strong presence. "Why did you want to meet me?" I tried to ask, trying to sound brave, but my voice was barely a whisper.

The stranger smiled. His eyes brightened in the moonlight, showing an old, knowing light. "I just wanted to see you," he said. His voice was clearly serious, a deep, true sound. I felt my spine shake as he took a step closer, looking at me with his burning gaze. I knew I should feel scared then, but instead, I felt drawn to him, like moths to a flame, pulled by a strong, basic force. My wolf knew it had found its match.

We stood there, and the silence grew thicker until it felt like a real, solid thing, a heavy cloak made of unspoken desire and ancient knowing. My skin felt hot, knowing someone else was looking at me; I was about to get into trouble. I couldn't look away, completely caught by his gaze.

The stranger's eyes seemed to go deep into mine, and I felt nervous excitement disturbing me, a deep hum in my bones.

Standing there was like being in a place full of electricity, and I could feel how he was like a magnet, sweetly pulled by my power, drawing me in with a feeling I could no longer fight. Slowly, I leaned towards him, like a puppet on strings, pulled by an invisible, unbreakable rope of the mate bond.

His eyes flared with strong desire, and I could feel it flowing through him again, raw and clear. We were truly like magnets, strangely drawn to each other without either of us being able to stop it. It felt excitingly scary because I also felt like I was almost at the edge of something unknown, a high place from which my wolf longed to jump. Everything slowed down as if time itself was bending around the moment our lips would touch. And just before our lips met, guilt hit me hard, screaming, "But Bob, what about our love?" My human heart cried out, but my wolf felt the pull of this Alpha.

A foreign eye should see the involvement and piqued by guilt he retreated, his gaze piercing mine. "What happened?" he asked in that rough voice, a hint of a growl in his chest. I hesitated at first because I just couldn't find the right words to tell him. Suddenly, he could see it—the tears gathering behind my eyelids. He saw my struggle, my divided loyalty.

"Hurt you, it seems," he said, concerned in his voice, a softer sound from his wolf. I nodded, trying to stop a lump in my throat. "Who hurt you?" he asked firmly but softly. I looked at him, thinking I could trust him with anything, but the words stayed in my throat, and I could only shake my head. My wolf was trying to speak, but my human mind held it back.

"I feel your body is cold," he said in a deep, manly voice. His own heat radiated towards me. "What is going on?"

I waited a bit because I had no idea how to understand all these feelings gathered inside me. "I...I don't know," was my final answer, a desperate plea.

He looked at me with concern, searching my eyes, looking deep into my soul, into my new wolf. "You can trust who I am," he said quietly, a serious promise. "Tell me what's bothering you."

I shook my head. A lump rose in my throat, and I felt troubled. "I don't think I can..." I mumbled my answer.

He nodded, understanding. "Now, don't say a word, just know that I'm here with you." His fingers lightly touched mine, creating a cold current at the base of my spine, a deep connection. Where he touched my hand, flames of heat flowed through me, a burning fire that woke up sleeping parts of me. "You're cold," he said, believing he could warm me, "then let's bring the heat to you." His arms wrapped fully around me. I felt safe, closer than I had ever felt with anyone. But beyond that, I knew I could feel a pull growing between us that would be almost impossible to control, the clear claim of a powerful Alpha. My wolf was singing.

"What is happening between us?" I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.

"What do you want me to say to that," he asked, his voice clear in my ears, a soft growl of possession. "I want more of you forever..." Standing there in each other's arms, the bond between us began to get stronger, solidifying, pulling our wolves closer. Like two opposite magnets of the same kind, we fit together perfectly, with no space in between, a perfect, fated match.

As hours passed, I was drawn to his eyes, and the beats of my heart grew louder, beating with his. I should have tried to resist, to think about what was happening, but I couldn't break away. "Who are you?" My voice was clear, barely a whisper, a plea for the truth. He smiled, a charming smile with twists at the corners of his twinkling eyes, but he didn't answer, keeping his secrets. He leaned towards me, only to tell me, "Does it matter?" in a soft murmur that seemed to crawl through my skin, a tempting whisper.

My gaze showed a mix of frustration and curiosity as I pulled back. "Yes, it matters," I said, trying to make my voice sound strong despite its tremble. He laughed, the strange light in his eye glaring, a flash of pure wolf power. "Later, I think you should know," he said in a low, clear voice. "But let's just enjoy the moment." He pulled me back close, kissing me until I couldn't breathe, a kiss that stole my reason and ignited my wolf.

Breaking free for some air, I then saw something shiny inside his pocket—a silver watch with writing on it. My heart beat hard as I tried to control it, my fingers curving around the cool metal. Silver. It sparked a strange unease, a primal warning from my wolf. Just as I was about to read the writing, he grabbed my wrist. His eyes flashed a warning, a predator's glint. "Hmm…" was all I could say.

"Don't," he said quietly, almost like a threat. His grip was surprisingly strong, almost hurting.

And then, everything went dark. The world spun, and I fell into a deep emptiness. The smell of fear, and him, were the only things left.
