Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

"Everyone!" I heard.

First, I thought we were asked to run out, perhaps rogues were around again. But, when I stood up, shocked, a man approached me and explained. "Don't feel like it happens again. The rogues aren't stronger than the Alphas here.

Alphas?

In the crowded ballroom, I stood all alone. Music and laughter swirled around me like a strong wind. I always felt like I was sitting on a strong man's dick. The chandeliers above gave light, but it felt far away from me. I took a sip of champagne, trying to make sense of a strange feeling I'd almost forgotten. All faces looked the same, a blur of people without names. Their human smells were weak, almost not there, to the new wolf starting inside me.

What was I doing here? What was I hoping for? My wolf felt restless, a soft buzz under my skin, searching.

I looked around and saw happy people laughing and talking, passing the time. They seemed to be having fun, leaving me feeling like an outsider. My own heightened wolf knew their fun was not deep.

"Are you having fun?" a voice suddenly broke through. I turned and saw a familiar face, a friend of a friend. His smell was faint, not interesting.

"Yes, it seems so, but I think it's a little much," I said, smiling. He nodded simply and offered to get me another drink. I said yes politely, thankful for the break. But as I waited for him, my eyes started to wander, looking for something more, for a special wolf to answer the call of my own.

That was when I felt a strong touch on my shoulder. The touch was different, hot, a first deep knowing.

"Ava," a low voice whispered. It sent a current down my spine. As I turned to the stranger, our eyes met. His look was heavy and burning; I felt he was looking deep into my soul, tearing away my human show to see the wolf underneath. His smell, raw and exciting, was too much, holding me in place.

"Who are you?" I somehow asked him. My voice was just a breath.

His smile showed at the corners of his eyes, making him look serious, yet his wolf shone with old knowledge. "I want to tell you that someone has been looking for you," he said in a low, rough voice, a deep sound from his chest. "He sent me to give you this…"

He handed me a box. The energy from it was strong, a pulsing beat against my hand.

I asked, "What's this?" but he just smiled again and moved very close to me. His warmth surrounded me, his rich, strong smell filled my lungs, making my own wolf tremble, ready.

"Open it," he told me. His breath tickled my ear, sending shivers through me that were more than just human. I waited a bit, not sure what to do, but my wish to know had already won. A deeper, wild urge took over.

My heart glowed with excitement as I lifted the lid. What secrets were inside? The box opened with a soft sound, showing a silver key-shaped pendant carved in gold. I gasped, my breath quickening. The words of the box seemed strange in my mind, lighting a fire in me that almost made me shake. A deep, strong hum inside my wolf echoed its power. I kept lifting my shaky hand and put my fingers around the cold metal hanging there. It felt heavy with meaning, a key to a door I'd been trying to open for years, a key to my own waking wolf.

"What does that mean?" I asked, my voice showing my unsure mind. The stranger's smile got deeper, but he said nothing. He just disappeared into the crowd. His presence vanished like smoke, leaving me confused, my wolf crying out for answers.

The stranger held my hands and looked at me clearly, but I looked at the box. The pendant reflected light everywhere. But more than that, it had a beautiful design that made me wonder what it really was. I looked up at him, and we seemed to connect deeply through our eyes when they met again. Our wolves knew each other in that hot look.

Right after the stranger left, I felt let down. I started to wonder if I had just imagined him. It felt like an unseen power was pulling me away from the ballroom. I yearned for my lost stranger. My wolf was restless, bothered by him leaving so fast. I stared at the pendant, which felt heavier in my hand, trying to keep him in my thoughts. A strange power linked me to him. Would I ever meet him again? Or was it just a short moment of fate, a quick smell of a mate?

The thought stayed in my mind as I stood there, my wolf shaking with a hunger I hadn't known I had.

Almost like time had twisted, I held my new pendant tightly. My heart kept racing like a tired horse, full of excitement. My wolf beat wildly, desperate to find him again. I looked around the ballroom almost wildly, even with the pain of disappointment in my stomach. He was just gone. Maybe I had imagined the whole thing. Music and laughter faded into the background as I stood, watching my memories blur. My wolf cried silently.

"Hmm." I said.

I closed my fingers around the pendant and the note. I felt a spark of power. I wanted to know more about this stranger who had somehow gotten to me. He had a name, a story, and something special behind his eyes, something old and strong in his wolf. My mind was full of questions that wouldn't leave. I felt like I was at the edge of something. The stranger's presence had somehow stirred something inside me, something I never knew existed. The cool air filled my lungs as I took a deep breath and made a choice: I would find out who he was, no matter the cost. My wolf demanded it.

I looked around the room one more time, searching for any sign of him. But the ballroom was almost empty, and the music was dying. I knew I had to leave, but I couldn't shake the feeling that we were not finished, that our wolves were tied together. As I turned away, I spoke softly to him, "Tell me your name." My voice had a protective growl I barely knew.

I turned my body to face him, looking at him directly, and asked calmly, "Tell me your name." He didn't answer. He just smiled strangely and took a step closer. This gave me goosebumps down my spine, as if I was excited and my heart was about to burst. His smell, wild and intoxicating, covered me completely.

"Why do you want to know?" he asked with his strangely deep voice, looking right through me, his wolf judging me.

I swallowed hard and wet my lips, trying to find my voice. My throat was suddenly dry. "I want to know who you are... That's why," I whispered. My own wolf pushed me to demand answers.

Then he laughed—a low sound—and shook his head. "Names have power, and I'm just not giving you that power," he told me mysteriously. His eyes shone with joy, a winning flash from his wolf.

A strong mix of frustration and curiosity went through me. I was surprised by him and wondered if he would be my dream man, the one whose dick I would ride. My wolf vibrated with a hot, possessive feeling.

"You're a wonder, aren't you?" I said, trying to sound casual, though my voice shook. He smiled again, but his smile hid no answers—a mystery, a challenge for my wolf to solve.

"I am just me…" He said. His words felt like a soft touch, a dare.

His words filled my mind with a desire to be with him, the man who had turned my world upside down. Just as my hand was about to touch the door, I heard a whisper in my ear: "Ask the pendant." A cold shiver, like a warning, ran through me.
