"I still can't believe I marked you… that you belong to me only," I say, brushing Diego's bare hip as he lies between my thighs. His skin feels so soft, smooth, and warm against my palm, like silk warmed by the sun.
I remember the gift I still haven't given him.
Stretching my arm carefully, trying not to disturb him as his head rests peacefully on my chest, I grab the small box tucked behind the pillow.
"Kitten," I whisper, lifting it slowly. "I have something for you."
Diego lifts his head, blinking those tired but sparkling eyes at me. "What is it?"
I open the lid right in front of his face, revealing the necklace. His eyes widen with surprise, glowing with that beautiful spark I've come to crave.
"I bought this before your birthday... for you," I murmur. "But I couldn't give it to you then. I was a coward."
He giggles quietly, the sound like music.
