Chapter 31 – Vanessa's POV
The training almost killed me.
Not because it was physically hard, though it was. But because holding back that much power made me feel like I was gonna explode from the inside out.
Elder Thorne started me off with meditation. Sitting still for hours trying to feel the curse without letting it loose. Like trying to pet a rabid dog without getting bit.
"Close your eyes," he said on the first day. "Feel for the power in your blood. Don't try to use it. Just acknowledge it's there."
Sounded easy enough.
It wasn't.
The second I started looking inward, something huge and hungry stirred inside my chest. Like a massive wolf that had been sleeping for years and suddenly woke up. It pushed against my ribs, clawed at my heart, whispered that I could have anything I wanted if I just let it out.
I jerked my eyes open, gasping.
"What the hell was that?"
