Chapter 3 - Upgrade

Michelle stared at the door with a scared expression. "What the hell was that?" she asked herself. "It looked like Huggy's arm..." Michelle remembered Leith's tape. "Is that the less-tame parts of this factory's security system?" she asked herself.

Michelle shook her head and slapped her cheeks. "Pull yourself together, Misha; your friends are counting on you," she said before walking toward the door.

When Michelle opened the door, she saw a dark, ominous hallway. "Oh yeah, that's definitely not gonna give me a heart attack," she said sarcastically.

As Michelle walked forward, she nervously looked around until steam came out of a pipe, which made her scream. "Fuck you?!" she shouted.

Michelle tried calming herself as her heart pounded like crazy. "Stupid pipes..." she said, lowly, before walking forward. When Michelle emerged from the hallway, she was in a part of a warehouse with stairs.

As Michelle looked around, she spotted a TV with an orange VHS player. "While I get this company prides itself on other stuff, do they really have to color-coat the VHS tapes and the VHS players?" she asked herself.

Michelle walked up the stairs and got on the catwalk. Soon after, Michelle spotted a panel. "You do something... but what?" she asked herself. Michelle looked up and spotted a claw-like crane above her.

Michelle looked at the ground below and spotted a blue scanner and a red scanner. "That scanner also calls for the red hand," she said. When Michelle looked forward, she spotted a red hand in a case, which made her smile. "And it's right there; sweet!" she shouted.

Michelle looked at the panel. "It looks like I need to find four of these doohickies to operate the crane and get that red hand," she continued. Michelle looked at the ground and spotted a blue device on the torn catwalk railing.

Michelle grabbed the device. "One down, three to go," she said and placed it in the blue slot. Michelle looked at the ground below and spotted a few boxes before jumping on them.

Michelle looked around. "Now, let's see where the rest are," she said before getting off the boxes. Soon after, Michelle spotted the shutter door and pulled the trigger, launching the blue hand and grabbing the door handle.

As Michelle backed away, the blue hand pulled the door shutter open, which led to the room with the TV. "At least I won't have to jump on those boxes all the time," she said before retracting the blue hand.

When Michelle looked up, she spotted the red device on top of a shelf, which made her smile. "There's the second one," she continued before pulling the trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the red device before retracting. Michelle grabbed the red device from the blue hand. "I don't think my bag can fit this in," she said before feeling around her GrabPack.

Soon after, Michelle felt carrying hooks on the side, which made her smile. "That'll work," she continued before hanging the red device on one of the hooks. "Now, two more remain."

As Michelle looked at the knocked-over shelf, she spotted an orange VHS tape. Michelle grabbed the tape. "This could have some useful stuff," she said before walking toward the other room.

When Michelle stood before the VHS player, she put the tape in, which made the TV turn on. Michelle looked at the screen. "Ugh, Rich, where are they keeping the Huggy boxes?" a young man asked.

Michelle heard a scoff from the TV. "I don't know; I couldn't tell you," Rich said. "Remember when maintenance last did a sweep of this place?" Michelle heard the young guy think. "No," he said.

"Exactly... nobody in this stupid company knows what they're doing," Rich said. "Aw, I swear, I haven't seen a single box in its place since they started flooding the storehouse with orphanage junk." Michelle was concerned. "Right..." the young man said.

"I get it, it's a nice program and all, on-brand, but..." Rich said before letting out an annoyed sigh. "It's just hard to be happy about it when manufacturing is on OUR NECKS about it, cause we can't find the stupid Huggy boxes!"

Michelle crossed her arms. "That's rough, buddy; I kinda feel bad for the guy," she said, lowly. "Rich..." the young man said.

Michelle heard Rich sigh on the TV, "You're right, you're right," he said. "It's... It's for the orphanage... I just wish there were less boxes. Anything less would be more abidable... is-is that even a word? Abidable?"

When the tape ended, Michelle looked around the warehouse. "I guess some of, if not all, the employees had it rough," she said before walking away. As Michelle looked around the room, she spotted the yellow device on top of the boxes and pulled the trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the yellow device before retracting back. Michelle grabbed the yellow device from the blue hand. "Now, only one remains," she said before hanging it on the second hook.

Michelle looked behind the shelves before spotting the green device on the ground, which made her grab it. "And that's the last one," she continued before hanging it on the third hook and walking away.

When Michelle got on the catwalk and was close to the panel, her eyes widened when she saw Huggy Wuggy in a small vent, smiling, with a bit of his teeth showing before the vent closed.

Michelle placed her hands on her head. "No fucking way did I just see that statue smiling at me... and it had teeth..." she said, lowly. "I have to be hallucinating or something."

Michelle shook her head. "Yeah... that's it; that was a hallucination," she continued before grabbing the devices and putting them in their right colors.

Soon after, the crane came to life before moving toward the encased red hand. When the crane was above the case, its claws grabbed it, which made Michelle smile. "Come to Mama," she said.

When the crane was halfway through, it suddenly stopped before dropping the case, which shattered the glass. "Yes!" Michelle shouted before dropping toward the boxes.

After Michelle got on the conveyor belt, she grabbed the red hand and put it in the right slot. "Now we've got both hands," she said.

Michelle went over to the pedestal and approached the hand scanners. "Now I can open you," she continued before pulling both triggers. Both hands shot toward the scanners before they started scanning. "Hang on, guys... I'm coming to find you," Michelle said.

After the scanners finished and both hands retracted, the vent door partially opened, prompting Michelle to crouch before entering.

As Michelle stood properly and walked forward, she looked around. "I really wish I had packed a flashlight for how dark this place is," she said. When Michelle looked down, she noticed the conveyor belt had a downslope.

Michelle took a deep breath before exhaling. "This is gonna be really stupid," she said before sliding down the slope. Soon after, Michelle stopped herself before she hit the vent door.

When Michelle backed away, she spotted an electric input unit. "I guess we've got another electric puzzle," she said before looking around. Soon after, Michelle spotted a gap on the left side, which made her walk toward it.

Soon after, Michelle entered a room with an electric pole on a downward slope. "There's the electric pole; now, where's the output unit?" she asked herself before walking around. Soon after, Michelle spotted an upward slope and walked toward it.

When Michelle reached the top, she spotted the output unit, which made her smile. "There you are," she said before pulling the right trigger.

The red hand shot toward the output, which lit the cables. Michelle walked toward the left side. "Now, go down this slope and wrap the cable around the pole," she said before sliding down the slope.

After wrapping the cord around the electric pole, Michelle reached the input and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and touching it.

Soon after, the vent door opened, and the conveyor belt started moving, which shocked Michelle as her hands retracted. Michelle crouched and looked around as she went up the slope. "Where is this thing taking me now?" she asked herself.

When Michelle reached the top, a red light shone a bit, which made her look at it. Soon after, toy pieces landed before Michelle, which surprised her. Another red light went off, which made toy pieces come out of the left side.

When the third light went off, toy pieces came out of the right side. When Michelle looked forward, she saw some light before sliding down and stopping on the edge of a broken pipe.

When Michelle stood properly, she was in a room with a giant machine. "This must be the Make-A-Friend place," she said before jumping down.

Michelle spotted a door with a pedestal and walked toward it. Michelle examined the pedestal and noticed a scanner within. "I'm guessing I need a toy to open this door up," she said.

Michelle walked toward the podiums and looked at the one on the left. "To think this was made in the '60s by the owner himself..." she said, lowly.

Michelle looked at the podium with a button and noticed the text saying 'Needs Power', which slightly annoying her. "Well, that's just great; we got another electric puzzle," she said. "Who's idea was it to make puzzles to power this shit up?!"

Michelle took a deep breath and exhaled. "Keep it together... Katie would definitely not want to see me mad," she continued before walking away. Soon after, Michelle spotted the stairs, which made her go up them.

When Michelle reached the top of the stairs, she spotted a TV with a pink VHS player. "There must be another tape around here somewhere..." she said, lowly, before getting on the catwalk. When Michelle looked forward, she saw a gap in the catwalk with a red handle on one end.

Michelle pulled the right trigger, launching the red hand and grabbing the handle before pulling it. Soon after, the platform started extending to Michelle. "Nice," she said before getting on it.

As Michelle looked at the area below, she spotted a pink VHS tape on a ledge. "You sneaky bitch; if I weren't looking around, I'd definitely miss you," she said before pulling the right trigger.

The red hand grabbed the pink tape before retracting. Michelle grabbed the tape from the red hand before walking toward the VHS player.

After Michelle put the tape in, she looked at the screen as it turned on. "So, Stella, what made you want to work at the Playtime Co. factory?" an interviewer asked.

"Playing with toys when I was young was so magical," Stella said. "I could go straight from my bedroom floor to anywhere in the world. It was such a great feeling."

Michelle tilted her head. "Stella... I think I remember hearing her voice at the Game Station when I was young; she seems nice," she said.

"And... being able to work at a toy factory... somewhere that can provide kids with that same experience. That's a pretty great feeling, too!" Stella said. "Sometimes, though... I really, really wish I could go back. To being a kid, I mean."

Michelle crossed her arms and looked away. "I'd like that as well, along with forgetting the people that adopted me and put me back at the orphanage..." she said, lowly.

"And it's weird, 'cause... adults are just kids, but older," Stella said, which made Michelle look at the screen. "I don't think anyone ever really feels like an adult. But your body just gets older... and older... and then you die."

Michelle felt slightly uncomfortable as Stella made a 'poof' noise before laughing a bit. "Human bodies just can't stay young forever," she continued. "There's things, though! Like some trees that can stay alive even while being way older than a person."

Michelle stepped back a bit. "I mean... the oldest people to ever live are STILL younger than those! So I guess everyone is always young relative to something... right?" Stella asked. "Alright... I think we're getting a little off track..." the interviewer said before the tape ended.

Michelle turned away. "Off track... that's a big understatement..." she said before walking forward. "Let's just... power up the machine..." After Michelle crossed the catwalk, she spotted an electric output unit.

When Michelle turned her head to the left, she saw two electric poles on the catwalk and a moving platform in the middle. "This one will be much trickier to do," she said before pulling the right trigger.

The red hand grabbed the handle and pulled the platform toward Michelle. After Michelle crossed the platform, she looked at the other side.

Michelle got on the opposite side and spotted the input unit. "That's where I have to put the electricity in..." she said, lowly, before looking at the platform. "I think I know how to do it."

Michelle pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and grabbing the platform's handle before pulling it. After Michelle crossed the platform, she reached the output before pulling the right trigger.

The red hand touched the output, which lit the cables. "I probably have a limited amount of distance between these hands, so..." Michelle said before getting on the railing.

Michelle jumped a bit before landing on the catwalk. "I'll have to cut the corner so I don't reach the limit," she continued before walking forward.

After Michelle circled the electric poles, she walked across the platform. When Michelle was close to the input unit, she aimed and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand to it.

Sparks came off the cords before traveling toward the center podium. "Nice," Michelle said as the hands retracted before she sprinted toward the stairs. "Now let's make ourselves a friend."

When Michelle reached the center podium, she pressed the button. When nothing happened, Michelle looked around. "Why is this thing not—" the machine made a whistling noise, which startled her. "Screw you!"

Michelle growled a bit before looking at the pipes on the sides. "I'm guessing that's how I make my friend," she said before pulling both triggers.

Both hands grabbed two levers before pulling them; after they retracted, Michelle pulled the right trigger, launching the red hand and grabbing the lever before pulling it. A toy piece came out of each hole before landing on the conveyor belt.

Michelle looked at the machine as the toy parts entered the first part. Soon after, Michelle saw that the toy parts were colored yellow, black, and white before entering the middle part of the machine.

Afterward, the toy circled the back before reaching the third part of the machine. A laser grid appeared and scanned around the toy before it disappeared. When Michelle reached the broken part of the conveyor belt, she saw a half-cat, half-bee toy stop at a vent door.

Michelle grabbed the toy. "Aw, it's a Cat-Bee toy," she said. "Katie would love a toy like you." Michelle walked toward the door with the pedestal. "Let's place you on that pedestal," she continued.

When Michelle was close to the pedestal, she placed the Cat-Bee toy on it. As Michelle stepped back, the machine scanned the Cat-Bee toy before disintegrating, which made her flinch. "I guess that's one way to make up a one-time use item," she said.

Soon after, the shutter opened, prompting Michelle to walk forward. "Now I gotta find a way to—" before she could proceed, Huggy Wuggy emerged from the dark hallway, his teeth showing.

Michelle's eyes widened as she backed away while Huggy Wuggy moved forward. "Oh God... what I saw wasn't a hallucination... he's alive?!" she shouted.

As the alarms went off, Michelle turned her head to the left and saw the vent door open. "I gotta get away!" she shouted before sprinting toward the vent.
