--------

When Alex Ray saw the flurry of alerts from his friends, his first reaction was that Spider-Man's base had already learned about his rescue of Uncle Ben and Captain George Stacy.

He flew back to the villa immediately. The moment he stepped through the door, he could feel the tense atmosphere.

Peter, Gwen, and the others were all looking at him intently, their faces filled with concern.

Gwen was the first to speak. She lowered her head and said softly, "Alex... I'm sorry. I told Mr. Miguel and the others about what you did." Her voice trembled with guilt.

Tobey Maguire's Peter looked more troubled by another issue entirely. He stared at Alex anxiously and asked, "Master... is what they said true? Could saving Uncle Ben really destroy our universe?"

His voice was full of worry. He clearly couldn't bear the thought of jeopardizing the fate of an entire universe just because of something he'd wished for so deeply.

Andrew Garfield's Peter said nothing, but the look in his eyes mirrored that of his counterpart—hope and dread tangled together, awaiting Alex's answer.

Harry Osborn didn't bother hiding his frustration. "Why not? Why can't Peter have his family?" he demanded, voice rising. "Are superheroes destined to be alone forever?" His anger was raw and heartfelt.

Alex didn't offer any elaborate explanation. He simply said, "Don't worry, Peter. I'm here. As long as I'm here, nothing will go wrong."

Then, changing the subject, he added, "It's late. You all should get some rest. I just sensed some fluctuations in the multiverse. There might be trouble tomorrow—stay alert."

Even though he hadn't noticed anything visibly wrong, Alex's sensitivity to spatial anomalies—thanks to his control over the Space Stone—had picked up disturbances.

They weren't immediate threats, but they could escalate.

So, he warned them to stay prepared.

Tobey's Peter chose to believe Alex without hesitation.

After all, more than two months had passed in his own universe, and no catastrophe had struck. Uncle Ben was alive and well.

He had no reason to doubt Alex.

Harry, since taking Alex as his mentor, had become carefree and loyal. If Alex said everything would be fine, then it would be.

He trusted his master—and his best friend.

Garfield's Peter still had many questions. But he understood this wasn't the right time to ask them.

He wasn't yet close enough to Alex to push for answers. The man had already saved his uncle and Gwen's father.

He couldn't demand more. All he could do was keep proving himself and hope, one day, to gain Alex's approval.

The three of them got ready to return to their rooms.

As Garfield's Peter passed by Alex, the latter suddenly stopped him.

"Remember," Alex said, "if Gwen is ever in danger, don't use your web to catch her. Hold her. Physically hold her. Don't forget."

Garfield's Peter froze in place. Did that mean Gwen would be in danger again?

He'd already decided to honor Captain Stacy's wishes and stay away from her. And after learning about canon events from the Spider-Society, he was convinced that anyone who stayed by his side would meet a tragic end.

Was Gwen fated to leave him too?

Alex could see the anxiety and inner turmoil written across his face.

He clapped a hand on the young man's shoulder and said, "Don't hesitate. If you love her, then love her. Just focus on getting stronger. If you ever need help—come to me."

Despite being only a few years older, Alex sounded like a seasoned father offering life advice.

Truthfully, Alex detested the idea of fate.

He hated the writers from his past life who seemed obsessed with making superheroes suffer, as if tragic losses were necessary for growth. In every version of Spider-Man's story, the hero was condemned to misery.

Alex wasn't trying to be some saint—but he refused to accept that suffering was the only path to strength. He believed Spider-Man could grow without needless death.

After Garfield's Peter left, only Gwen remained in the vast living room with Alex.

"What is it?" Alex asked her. "Don't want to sleep? Or don't want to report back to the Spider-Society?"

The real reason he had Gwen stationed here was so she could spend more time with Tobey's Peter. He was trying to nudge them closer together—especially since Mary Jane from Tobey's world had always felt a bit... manipulative. And this Gwen? She'd clearly been into Miles Morales.

Alex figured it couldn't hurt to try a little matchmaking. The rest would depend on Peter himself.

"I'm leaving tomorrow," Gwen said quietly. "Mr. Miguel will be here in the morning. He wants to meet you in person, Mr. Ray."

Hearing that, Alex realized Gwen had been assigned to monitor him, afraid he might slip away.

"It's fine," he said. "Go sleep. I'm not going anywhere. You've had a long day."

Gwen blushed slightly. Her tiny deception had been completely seen through.

She nodded, then turned to leave.

But just as she reached the doorway, she hesitated.

She turned back and asked, "Mr. Ray... you knew saving Uncle Ben and Captain Stacy might cause a collapse, didn't you? Then why did you still save them? You don't even know them..."

The question had been eating at her for days.

From everything she had observed, Alex was rational—cautious even. He didn't strike her as the reckless type who'd endanger the multiverse on a whim.

Alex met her gaze, and a faint, cold smile crossed his lips.

"What does the end of the world have to do with me?" he said flatly. "I just want the people I care about to live."

He paused, then added, "Besides, I don't believe the universe is so fragile it can't withstand saving one man. You Spider-Men are too timid—always talking about destiny and balance, but forgetting what matters most: the happiness of the people you love."

Gwen was stunned.

She'd never heard someone speak so coldly about the universe... and so warmly about their loved ones.

Alex's words frightened her a little. It reminded her of the things villains used to say—placing personal desires above everything else.

But still... she couldn't help but respect his conviction.

"Alright. If you're not going to bed, I will," Alex said, turning toward his room without another word.

As she watched him leave, Gwen's feelings were in turmoil.

She didn't know how to judge him. Was he a hero or something else entirely?

But in the end, she found herself whispering, "Thank you... Mr. Ray."

Even if she didn't understand his choices, she was still grateful.

Ding!

"Congratulations, host. Gwen Stacy has officially added you as a friend."

"Reward: Dimensional Watch obtained."
