Alex Ray quickly went upstairs to study the dimensional watch he had just received from Gwen.

"So with this thing, I can go to any Spider-Man universe and travel to the Spider-Society base whenever I want," he muttered to himself.

In truth, Alex had always wondered why he could ignore multiversal laws and travel so freely between universes without being rejected. After all, other Spider-People would glitch and distort if they stayed too long outside their native timelines.

But neither he nor his companions suffered from any of these side effects.

There was another issue that had always gnawed at him.

He remembered saving Uncle Ben in that particular universe. And yet, that timeline hadn't collapsed. The universe didn't spiral into chaos. The "canon" event had been changed—yet nothing happened.

What the hell was going on?

Could it be that he truly had the ability to alter timelines—even fixed points in them?

"System," Alex whispered in his mind, "is this your doing?"

But the system gave no response.

Or maybe, he considered, it was because Loki—the God of Stories—had broken the Sacred Timeline. And now, all life in the multiverse had the chance to rewrite their destinies.

Alex didn't have the answer yet, but deep down, he was certain the system had something to do with it.

He decided to shelve his doubts for now.

Some answers only revealed themselves in time.

What he needed most at this moment was rest.

He lay back on the bed, closed his eyes, and quickly fell asleep.

Unbeknownst to him, as he drifted off, the universe he was currently in was beginning to reconnect with another parallel world...

. . . . . . .

Alex got up later than usual the next morning. As he hurried downstairs, he was surprised to find Peter and the others being berated by a tall, commanding man in a form-fitting suit.

The man radiated authority. A natural leader.

Alex recognized him immediately—the legendary Spider-Man 2099, the so-called "leader" of the Spider-Society.

Miguel O'Hara.

Miguel's expression was cold and stern as he glared at the group. "You're not supposed to be in this universe," he snapped. "You don't have Dimensional Watches. Your presence here puts the entire multiverse at risk."

Peter and the others couldn't answer. Tobey's Peter looked like he was holding his breath, while Harry Osborn stood behind them, eyes filled with defiance.

Alex stepped forward.

"You must be Miguel," he said coolly. "But you don't get to scold my people."

His voice was firm, calm—but carried a quiet authority that made Miguel pause for a split second.

Tobey's Peter and Garfield's Peter visibly relaxed at Alex's arrival.

Miguel straightened up and turned to face him. A flicker of something passed over his face—recognition? Confusion?

"Alex Ray," Miguel said slowly, "you're the one who's been altering canon events—over and over again."

Alex chuckled. "And what of it? The universe didn't collapse. Don't project your own failures onto others."

He knew exactly why Miguel was so strict.

Miguel had created the Spider-Society to protect the "Web of Life and Destiny" that connected every Spider across the multiverse. But it wasn't just duty that drove him—it was grief. In another timeline, Miguel's daughter had died, and he had tried to replace himself in that universe to be with her again. That decision broke the canon and collapsed the timeline.

Since then, Miguel had carried the burden of safeguarding the multiverse—even if it meant playing villain to the very people he was trying to protect.

Their confrontation grew tense. Miguel eventually ordered Gwen back to HQ to prepare for a new assignment.

Alex, in turn, told Tobey and Garfield's versions of Peter to return to the safe zone.

Soon, only he and Miguel remained.

Alex casually sat down and began making tea.

"Want some?" he offered.

If anyone else had seen this, they would've been shocked. Moments ago, they were practically at each other's throats—now Alex was offering him tea?

In truth, Alex knew Miguel's anger was mostly an act.

Because the moment they locked eyes, Alex heard the familiar chime of the system:

Ding!

Congratulations. Miguel O'Hara has added you as a friend.

Friendship level: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜†ā˜†ā˜† (2 stars)

So Alex played along.

He wanted to see what Miguel was really planning.

Miguel accepted the tea and sat down.

"Thank you," he said quietly. "For saving Uncle Ben and the others. For not letting that universe collapse. You're… different."

Before Alex could reply, Miguel continued.

He explained that he'd established the Spider-Society to prevent universes from collapsing due to disruptions in the Web of Life. He had strictly forbidden all Spider-People from altering canon events—even when it meant allowing loved ones to die.

But that didn't mean he didn't understand the pain of loss. He lived with it every day.

He had been waiting—for someone who could break the rules without destroying everything.

To everyone else, he was cold, iron-fisted, even cruel. That was the price of keeping the web intact.

Without him holding the line, Spider-People would try to rewrite fate, triggering catastrophe.

But then Alex Ray appeared.

And he changed things. Twice.

Uncle Ben. Sheriff George.

Canon events—altered.

Yet the multiverse held steady.

Miguel had begun to realize that Alex might be the one they'd been waiting for all along.

He went on: "We had a Spider-Man once… a Sorcerer Supreme variant. He foretold your arrival."

Miguel let out a long breath, as though lifting a weight that had been on his shoulders for years.

Alex sat silently, letting it sink in.

He was the variable. The anomaly. The one who could defy destiny without consequence.

And he had plans of his own.

He wanted the Spider-Society on his side. When the time came to face the Kang Dynasty, he would need them.

Miguel's tone shifted, becoming more serious.

"You may be the one we've waited for," he said. "But I can't just hand you the reins. I need to know you're capable."

Alex was about to respond when—

The air around them trembled.

The universe itself vibrated.

He and Miguel locked eyes, instantly alert.

. . . . . . .

Earth – Brooklyn Bridge

Suddenly, a long mechanical tentacle burst out from the concrete of the viaduct, its metal limbs flailing like they had a mind of their own.

Panic broke out among the civilians on the bridge.

The tentacle waved through the air—searching.

At that moment, a figure in a black jacket appeared atop the viaduct, calm amidst the chaos.

He raised a hand and called out casually to the man standing atop a nearby car in a red-and-blue nano-suit.

"Hello, Peter."
