For six years, Luna thought the husband she married was a businessman. She knew he owned some casinos, but one day, her husband was in a hurry. In his rush, he forgot to lock the drawer he had always kept locked for the past six years.
Luna decided to take a peek at the drawer her husband had been keeping locked. Inside, she found a document approving and detailing drug smuggling and everything her husband had been involved in. She also found a document that showed he was part of the Mafia. When she saw another document revealing that her husband was the head of her Mafia. she was shocked. She quickly put the documents back, overwhelmed by the truth.
She realized that Matteo, the head of the family—her husband—was the Mafia boss of all Mafias. She was in disbelief. He had hidden it from her because he didn't want her to know the truth, and because he loved her. She was stunned.
The next day, when her husband came back home, she pretended she didn't know anything. He told her that they were going to meet the Lorenzo family. The Matteo family was going to meet with the Lorenzo family. He told her to dress well because she was beautiful. She smiled as he flattered her.
She dressed elegantly and walked downstairs from her bedroom. Their mansion was enormous. A large limousine was waiting for her outside. As the driver opened the door, her husband was there, waiting for her. She stepped inside as he held her hand.
They drove to meet the Lorenzo family, who wanted to discuss something important with the head of the Matteo family.
What kept her thinking wasn't just that he was in the mafia; it was about some documents—a document containing everything, including the amounts of transactions he had made, money laundering, all written in black and white. She kept remembering that record of transactions—large sums of money, movements, messages, shipments, and the names involved.
The driver was silent except for the smooth way he drove. Luna looked outside the window, watching the lights blur together. Her thoughts rested in her mind. The car turned onto a long private road covered with trees. She suddenly realized they were at the Lorenzo estate. She saw the estate—it was big, almost as big as their home. But something made her curious. The walls were so high, and there were guards stationed at every part of the mansion. It wasn't just a sign that the Lorenzo family held power; it showed they truly had it.
The car stopped. The driver stepped out and opened the door while her husband, Matteo, got out first. He turned around, stretched his hand toward her, looking at her closely. Luna took his hand with a tense expression, but her heart was still racing. She thought of asking him about it, but she made up her mind that she wouldn't.
Inside the estate, it was as beautiful as the outside. The ceiling was high, with a gold chandelier, and the air felt as if it was full of money. But it wasn't the luxury that made Luna feel curious—it was the people around. Men in suits lined the hall. They were built, tall, and strong—the same way her husband, Matteo, carried himself. She wouldn't have thought much of it before, but now, knowing he was in the mafia, she saw it differently.
A man in a suit approached them and told them to follow him. He led them into a grand dining hall where a large mahogany table stretched across the room. At the top of it sat a man she had seen in the documents—Lorenzo. She hadn't met Lorenzo before, but she recognized him from the files. Lorenzo Dante. His blonde hair was slicked forward, and his eyes studied her before looking at Matteo.
"I see you brought your beautiful wife," Lorenzo said, his tone unreadable.
Matteo pulled out a chair for her. "She's meant to always be by my side," he said.
As she sat down, workers served different types of meals on the table. She only looked at the food; she didn't want to eat.
The men spoke in half-truths. Matteo and Lorenzo spoke in a way she couldn't fully understand, hiding meanings beneath their words. But Luna knew what they were talking about because she already knew they were mafias. She kept listening to what they were saying.
Then Lorenzo placed a file on the table.
Luna immediately recognized it. It looked just like the one she had seen in Matteo's drawer when she opened it.
Lorenzo opened the folder. "The deal isn't going to fail, Matteo. We know what we are putting at stake," Lorenzo said.
Matteo took a sip of wine from his glass before responding. "And we both know—we can't fail. You understand, right?"
Lorenzo leaned back, stretching his hand forward, tightening his fist.
"Then let's continue."
Matteo, her husband, stood up, checked his wristwatch, and said, "Let's have a talk, Lorenzo. Let's go somewhere else, Lorenzo."
Then he turned back and told Luna, "Luna, sorry, I just want to have a quick chat with my friend Lorenzo. There's some business at the casino—you know how casinos work—and he's getting into a tense situation. I need to take care of it."
He stretched his hand to Luna's and kissed it before walking away with Lorenzo.
If only I could follow them, if only I could read that file… But it's not possible for me to follow them or listen to what they're saying. There are too many men lined up in this place, and I have to behave myself because I am a noble. I have to be on my best behavior.
But what could they be talking about? What could they be scheming?
I'm scheming too. I'm not going to let him find out. I don't want him to know that I found out he's in the mafia.
When he returned yesterday, he said he knew the drawer was open—he had left it open—so he closed it. That's why I pretended and acted normal. And I'm not sure if he noticed anything, because when he came back, I kissed him, hugged him, and pretended I wasn't scared of what I had learned about him.
I was almost shocked when he told me, We're going to meet the Lorenzo family yesterday.
The Lorenzo family is quite popular too. But this—this is the man. And they are mafias.
