Chapter 10 - A Suit of Lies

They both started eating the spaghetti at the same time. Luna was enjoying it, but she still wasn't satisfied—it wasn't as tasty as the one from the restaurant. Meanwhile, Matteo was really enjoying it because he loved anything Luna cooked.

"This is really, really good. Wow, I'm amazed," Matteo said. "It looks like your spaghetti is improving. You've definitely gotten better."

"Wait… was my cooking bad before? Was my spaghetti bad before? But you always said it was good," Luna said, raising an eyebrow.

"It's always good. Your spaghetti has always been good to me, but it's getting even better," Matteo reassured her. "Maybe after work today… or no, not today—I won't have time. Let's say tomorrow. We could go out somewhere, like we used to when we first got married. Just the two of us. It doesn't have to be anywhere special, I just want to spend time with you," he said.

Luna smiled.

They both rushed through their spaghetti, finishing it quickly. Afterward, Matteo went to the bedroom to take a bath, getting ready to go out.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Luna opened it.

"What's the problem? Is there anything wrong?" she asked.

"No, ma'am. Please help me give Sir Matteo his suit. The tailor is bringing it now," the maid said. "The owner of one of the biggest stores in the city personally came to deliver it."

"Okay, just bring it," Luna replied.

She sighed as she took the suit. He keeps buying suits… I'm sure this is another new one. Why does he love buying them so much? His wardrobe is huge, and I'm sure he has more than a hundred suits already. Yet, he still keeps getting more.

She placed the suit on the bed and called out toward the bathroom.

"Your suit has been delivered!"

"Oh, thanks. That's the suit I'm wearing today—I just bought it," Matteo responded.

"But you have so many suits already. Why do you keep buying more?" Luna asked.

"I love wearing suits, you know that. I like wearing the finest suits—doesn't matter the price. If I see a suit I like, I buy it immediately. Even if it costs a hundred grand, I don't care, because, well… I'm rich," Matteo said casually.

"But do you really need that many suits?" Luna asked, shaking her head.

Matteo chuckled. "You're really funny. How many dresses do you have? You literally have a whole room just for your dresses. Remember when we got married, and you bought almost every dress in that boutique? I'm sure you have more than 10,000 dresses. And you're complaining about me having a little over 100 suits?"

Luna scoffed. "Are you making fun of me?"

"Nah," Matteo laughed. "I think you're right, though. You love shopping just as much as I do."

Luna smirked. "Fair enough."

Luna walked out of the room, took her phone, and looked at the picture she had taken in the abandoned building where she had tailed Lorenzo and Matteo. She zoomed in on the chubby guy, focusing on the scar on his face. His expression sent a chill down her spine.

Now I just need to take more pictures like this—gather more evidence. I have to find out who he is and what this all means. I need to know everything Matteo is doing and what he's caught up in. If he realizes I already know too much… No, I know he wouldn't hurt me. But it will break him when he finds out that I know the truth.

She exhaled slowly, trying to steady herself. I have to be careful. Last time, he almost caught me. He heard my footsteps and chased after me, but luckily, he didn't see me. That means I'm still safe—for now. I just have to keep going.

Meanwhile, as Matteo finished his shower, he grabbed a towel and dried himself off. Just as he reached for his underwear, his phone started ringing. He picked it up.

"It's me, Lorenzo," a voice said.

"But why is your number showing as private?" Matteo asked, frowning.

"Oh, sorry, that might be on my end," Lorenzo replied.

"So why are you calling me?" Matteo asked as he pulled on his clothes.

"I'm already outside your house, by the gate. I'm waiting for you," Lorenzo said.

"Alright, I'll be down as soon as I'm dressed," Matteo replied before hanging up.

He grabbed the suit from the bed and put it on. Just then, Luna walked into the room and stopped in her tracks. Her eyes lingered on him. He looked incredibly sharp.

Matteo had dark hair and piercing eyes, his fair complexion making his features stand out even more. The emerald-green suit, adorned with subtle gemstone embellishments, fit him perfectly.

Luna couldn't take her eyes off him. Damn, he really does look good in a suit.

"Here you go again, staring at me. You're in love, right?" Matteo teased with a smirk.

Luna just laughed. "The suit is perfect," she said.

"Oh, I almost forgot," Matteo added. "I told you my friend Lorenzo was coming today. He's already here. I'm gonna go get him from downstairs—he's waiting for me at the gate."

"Okay, no problem," Luna replied.

Oh, Lorenzo already came. Good. If my husband Matteo goes out, I'm going to have to… when Lorenzo opens the office and steps out, even for a second, I'm going to make sure I gather a lot of evidence and proof about him. I have to find out something—what is inside that room? I never really thought about it before, but for years, the room has been locked. He just told me it was for business, and I usually overlooked it because I thought he didn't want the maids to see his properties and things he owned. That was the only reason I never questioned it. But now, I won't overlook anything. Anything suspicious, I have to check it. Luna thought to herself.

As Matteo finished brushing his hair, he applied some face cream and walked out of the room, heading downstairs and out of the mansion. From a distance, he spotted Lorenzo and raised his hand as a signal. Lorenzo understood and started walking toward him.

"Good morning," Lorenzo greeted.

"Good morning to you too," Matteo replied.

"The office—it's the one inside your house, right? That's the one I'll be using?" Lorenzo asked.

"Yes, it's the one inside my house," Matteo confirmed. "You can't make any mistakes. Don't leave the room open. If you're inside, don't let anyone in. That room has been locked for a reason. It contains a lot of illegal stuff. My workers—especially the maids—shouldn't see it. And most importantly, my wife, Luna, can't find out anything. So be very careful."

"You can trust me. I'll be careful. There won't be any mistakes," Lorenzo assured him.

"Good. Let's go in," Matteo said.

He led Lorenzo through the living room and down the hallway, stopping in front of the office door. Matteo pulled out a key and unlocked it. The two stepped inside.

"So, what do you need me to check in the office today?" Lorenzo asked.

"There's a file I need you to find," Matteo said as he walked toward a cabinet. "You know Jerry, right? The chubby guy with the scar?"

"Yeah, I know him," Lorenzo replied.

"I'm giving him a mission. If he completes it, he'll be accepted into the organization. But for this mission, I want him to kill someone—a Yakuza named Renshi. I need you to find a file on Renshi. It should contain everything—his whereabouts, his hideout, and his connections. He's a high-ranking member of the Yakuza, and we need to take him out. Once you have the information, you'll hand it over to Jerry so he knows exactly who to target."

"Understood. I'll find the file," Lorenzo said with a nod.

"Start finding it now. Oh, I almost forgot—come out of here first. Go to the living room. I'm going to tell my wife you're here so she can come and greet you. You two will greet each other, and then you can go back to the office," Matteo said.

They both walked out of the office, closing the door behind them. Lorenzo headed to the living room while Matteo went toward his room to inform Luna.

"You should come and greet him," Matteo told her.

"I will," Luna answered.

Matteo and Luna then came down from their room, walked down the staircase, and entered the living room.

"Good morning," Lorenzo greeted.

"Good morning to you too," Luna replied.

"Sorry, I'm here for work. I hope I'm not disturbing you, distracting you, or invading your privacy," Lorenzo said calmly.

"No problem. You can check what you need to check. You're not invading my privacy," Luna replied as she turned and walked back toward her room.
