Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Moon Is Waxing… I Feel Different

I don't know if you've ever been a baby with a mystical moon-based power template before, but let me tell you — it's weird.

See, every night I'd stare out of the tiny window of Garp's house while Dragon snored like a baby boar. Most nights, nothing happened. But last night… something changed.

The moon was waxing. Not quite full, but way past a crescent. And me? I felt… different.

My tiny baby hands felt heavier. My crib creaked under me. My one remaining baby tooth started tingling.

I flexed my chubby little arms. Was it just me… or were they looking slightly less pathetic tonight?

"Heh… tonight's the night," I whispered to myself, even though the only people who could hear me were Dragon and a sleeping seagull on the roof.

I glanced at my reflection in a small water basin. Same messy black hair, same mischievous face, but… my eyes were gleaming faintly silver in the moonlight.

"Ohoho… so this is my moon mode," I grinned, though it probably just looked like a dumb baby gurgle from the outside.

Testing my newfound strength, I grabbed one of the wooden crib bars and gave it a good tug.

SNAP.

The whole side of the crib came off.

I froze.

"Crap—"

Dragon stirred in his sleep.

"Hngh… Mom… five more minutes…" he mumbled.

Phew. Close.

I crawled out of the now-lopsided crib, standing wobblingly on my legs. I could stand! Not well — but hey, pirates start somewhere.

Outside the window, the moon climbed higher. I could feel a gentle pulse of power. Nothing crazy yet — no earth-shattering aura, no god-like glow — but I could tell. On the full moon… I'd be unstoppable.

"Garp, old man… one day, I'm gonna deck you right in the face."

I made my way over to the chair where Garp's cap lay. My tiny hand lifted it effortlessly.

Hah. Last time it took all my strength to drag this thing — now, I held it like a toy.

I plopped it on my head again.

I was king of the world.

Or at least, of the living room.
