Chapter 2 - Rejected

Avalon pulled out a gadget with a small display terminal that reveals virtual models of objects and a rating system underneath it.

Ping!!

After five minutes of scanning a plot, the device gave a feedback, displaying rows of information about the scraps.

Energy Relay Circuit Board:

Integrity: 30%

Field Router:

Integrity: 90%

Holo Remote Terminal:

Integrity: 98%

A small smile tugged at his mouth, but his face was covered by the suit, making his expression unreadable.

The energy relay he was hoping for finally appeared. Although the quality was barely passable, it was quite a good start, considering the fact that he hadn't gotten any good unit the past few weeks.

He moved on to the next plot and started the scan. A few minutes into the scan, a metallic clang drew his attention.

There he stood on the industrial grates with hands rested on the metal rails, gazing passively at the young man beneath him.

A tall, bearded man with a sculpted jawline sharp enough to cut metal. He looks like he is in his forties, with a calm and mature aura, spotting a casual fitting tracksuit and long sleeves that hint at his athletic form.

"Mr. Bucks?"

Avalon gazed up and saw him, making him utter in confusion.

"Bucky it is."

The man replied and gazed at Avalon with interest.

"Why don't you just accept my offer? You are a genius, and my company can make use of such a talent. Why do you always have to be a loner?"

"I appreciate your offer, but I'm not planning on working with anyone soon."

His tone was firm, leaving no room for further consideration.

"Alright, I came to see how you are doing."

Bucky replied. Deep down, he felt a little disappointed, but he masked it almost perfectly.

"Hmm."

Avalon affirmed. How could he not see the flicker of disappointment on Bucky's face? He didn't care—not like he trusts people or wants to be tied down following orders and expectations. He doesn't have the energy nor time to deal with that.

"Alright, I will be off now. Anytime you change your mind, you know where to contact me."

Bucky walked to the landing bay, and the door of the ship automatically extended to form a ramp. He walked into the ship and turned on the engine. Lights beamed on as the metal beast awakened.

The thruster extended out of the bottom hull, jetting out a plume of powerful blue ion glow as it gradually lifted off the bay.

Kukung!!

The landing gear folded neatly into the hull, forming an X-shaped pattern underneath the ship.

The roof opened up. After getting out of the facility, with a soft boom, the ship disappeared like a blur into the night.

Avalon watched the whole transformation with a burning heart, his fist clenched as he heaved a plume of cold air after disengaging his helmet.

"Who uses a frigate as a dumper?"

A flicker of yearning flashed across his face.

He took out a mirror, and a pair of beautiful rainbow-coloured eyes stared back at him. His rainbow-tinted hair matched his eyes perfectly. A sculpted face that could put many, many male models to shame was revealed.

One might think his hair and eyes are not natural, but they had always been like this since he could remember.

He shook his head to get stupid thoughts out of his head and continued what he was doing.

SAM: (Spatial Access Matrix)

Integrity: 60%

QUASER: (Quantum Utility Access Synthetic Element Replicator)

Integrity: 100%

Dynamic Graphics Drivers:

Integrity: 70%

Damaged Circuit Breaker:

Integrity: 10%

His jaw almost hit the floor when he saw the display. He closed his eyes, opened them, and rubbed furiously to make sure he was not dreaming.

He knew what these two devices were. How could he not know, when he had always fantasised about getting his hands on them? It felt deliberate and so unreal for them to appear together, especially in such a place.

The SAM is a spatial storage that is explained to work on some quantum displacement theory, where two access points will be swapped and materials stored in the primary field will be sent to a separate space—vice versa when you want to retrieve them.

Obtaining a SAM, although shocking, he also found a real QUASER. A system that also works on quantum mechanics, but it generates any material as long as you have the energy to fuel it.

The QUASER consumes an enormous amount of energy—that's the constant. The cost is relative to the quality, nature, and complexity of the material you want to generate. This makes it quite less of a cheat, because if it's without restriction, the public would not even be allowed to know of its existence.

Chaos and unthinkable catastrophes will break out . Don't even think about it—due to human nature, it will end in a disaster.

"Finally, I can start experimenting."

"Kikikieeee."

A creepy cackle echoed in the large room.

"Calm down, calm down.

You don't want to give yourself away, do you?"

He reassured himself but still couldn't tone down his excitement.

He arranged the scrap until it formed a mini room. This would shield him from view and give him time to react in case someone walked in.

He fumbled with the SAM. A portable star-shaped badge that glows with a purple metallic sheen and a textured effect that makes it both rough and smooth to touch.

He kept flipping it until he saw a star-shaped slot small enough to fit a key.

Zinng!

Beep!

["Unauthorized access det..."]

"Override><"=0."

The device was about to self-destruct, but he had already connected it with his Com-link. Using both voice and physical input on the holographic interface, his fingers blurred on the keyboard in conjunction with his voice.

["Welcome Avalon! Permission to scan biometric data."]

"Affirmative!"

He gave a curt response. A needle pricked his finger to take his blood sample. It felt more like an itch, but he knew what happened.
