I stepped out of the room after her, and was shocked to see that it was already dark outside. I had spent the whole day in the damn room, sorting the damn keys and locks.
We met Nanisca in the kitchen, stirring the large pot on the fire, with her nose raised like a pig. She left hurriedly for the adjoining room where the others were, leaving me to face Nanisca alone.
"Your food is on the table," Nanisca called without looking away from the pot she was stirring, which was fine. I didn't want to see her face either.
I moved to the table, and collected the plate of pasta. It was of reasonable quantity, seeing that I had been without food all day. I then headed for the adjoining room, to join the others who were eating silently. They welcomed me but only with their eyes, for fear of Nanisca.
I located a seat in the room, and eased into it, ready to satisfy my stomach which had begun to gurgle.
