Arthas's power was frost, but it wasn't conjured from nothing.
Frost requires water, and that water came from the water vapor in the air. On a night of torrential rain, saturated with moisture, Arthas was virtually invincible.
Effortlessly manipulating the elements, feeling the power at his fingertips, Arthas felt a surge of confidence, enough to face a Satan King.
A chilling aura seemed to freeze even time. Arthas stared coldly at the screaming monster before him. Killing him, ensuring Souna never found him, might be best for both of them.
Seeing Genshirou like this… she would be heartbroken and blame herself.
Thoughts flowed like a spring, time resumed, the downpour continued, but faster than the rain were the blades.
Ice blades, countless and densely packed, filled the sky, like countless arrows falling to earth.
Genshirou, offering no resistance, was consumed by the rain of blades, having no chance to escape.
His body's transformation, the sudden acquisition of unimaginable power, created an illusion of invincibility.
The enhanced physical strength, impervious to blades, further fueled this delusion, making him believe his body could withstand any attack.
These delusions caused Genshirou to be blinded in his initial clash with Arthas, leading to his current demise.
Arthas watched the destruction unfold; it was breathtaking. Crimson flowers bloomed in the night. At first, Genshirou roared like a beast, but the roars eventually ceased, replaced only by the sound of ice blades piercing the ground.
When the rain resumed, an ice forest stood before Arthas. Ice blades, over a meter long, formed a complex barrier where Genshirou had stood, now devoid of life.
Arthas silently observed the pulpy remains pinned to the ground, the dark red substance gradually washed away by the downpour, into the sewers. By morning… there would be no trace.
The ice forest quickly melted, the disharmonious crimson washed clean by the rain. Only a gleaming holy sword and the uneven ground remained.
Arthas approached and gently pulled Excalibur from the ground.
A dull tremor echoed. The sword, poison to devils, trembled slightly in Arthas's hand.
"Such an unpleasant power."
Arthas muttered. He'd heard Rias tell stories about Excalibur, but encountering it so soon felt strangely fated.
However, this so-called devil-slaying sword, aside from causing slight discomfort, seemed to have no effect on him, a devil, just like the Fallen Angel's holy spears.
Arthas pondered… was he truly a devil?
"Ah… it's getting late. Asia must be waiting."
Remembering Asia, Arthas casually strapped Excalibur to his waist and headed towards the suburbs.
The fact that Excalibur, a highly valued relic, had ended up in this remote island nation, and even in the hands of a devil, would surely cause an uproar in the Vatican.
He didn't know who modified Genshirou, enabling him to wield the holy sword, but whoever possessed that technology was no ordinary person.
It was likely the Fallen Angels; only they would be interested in such a relic.
Uninterested in the Fallen Angels' machinations, Arthas knew they'd likely come after him for killing their research subject and taking their sword. He'd deal with them then.
Thinking this, he saw the church.
Asia stood at the entrance, seemingly waiting. Seeing him, she visibly relaxed, her face showing relief.
Arthas paused. It seemed Asia needed him for more than just cleaning.
Asia did clean the church, but calling him for help on such a rainy night was odd.
"W-well… Mr. Arthas, you finally came. Asia didn't know what to do."
"What is it?"
Arthas asked. Asia lowered her head, speaking hesitantly.
"Um… someone from the church came. I didn't know what to do, and I didn't want to bother Rias-nee, so I called you."
Arthas's expression turned serious.
"Asia, I know you're kind, but you're a devil now. If the church sent enemies… we'll have to eliminate them."
"B-but…"
Asia hesitated. Arthas sensed two auras behind him, auras he found repulsive, slowly approaching through the wind and rain.
He recognized the aura instantly—the unique aura of Excalibur, the holy sword he'd taken from Genshirou.
Another holy sword… two of them?!
More modified monsters like Genshirou?
Arthas's expression turned grave. He stepped back, protecting Asia.
"Wh… what is it, Mr. Arthas? You seem serious."
"We have guests…"
As Arthas finished, Asia's eyes widened.
In the stormy night, two figures, completely shrouded in robes, were struggling to approach.
