Genshirou was missing, and a week had passed without a trace. Even Souna was growing concerned.
"Where could he have gone?"
"Was the blow… really that hard?"
Arthas chuckled, rubbing his nose. Souna, though maintaining her usual serious facade, couldn't hide the excitement in her eyes.
Since Arthas had taken her, their nights had been filled with passion. Devils seemed open about relationship, and Souna, once she let go, provided Arthas with unique feelings.
Arthas's sin-fueled power required regular release, but he felt he might be overdoing it… even his back ached.
If Rias knew, she'd try to outdo Souna, and the thought of them both was… dangerous.
Arthas stroked his chin as Souna spoke again.
"Arthas, where do you think Genshirou… could have gone? Could he have…"
Souna didn't finish, knowing what it implied.
"Fallen? There's no need to blame yourself, Souna." Arthas said softly.
"There's nothing wrong with admiring your master and harboring fantasies. Any normal man would have unrealistic dreams about a perfect girl like you. But fantasies are just that. If you can't accept your role as a Pawn, you'll inevitably fall."
"Easy for you to say; you're a Pawn too."
Souna smiled wryly. Arthas grinned.
"I'm different… I'm a Pawn destined to become King."
Arthas spoke audaciously, but Souna wasn't offended. She was deeply moved by his confidence.
That's right… my Pawn, you will become King!
"Souna, be careful these next few days. Whether Genshirou has fallen or not, if he does, and gains power at any cost, you'll be the first person he seeks out." Arthas said with concern.
"Don't underestimate me. I'm Lord Leviathan's sister. Do you think I'm just a delicate heiress?" Souna dismissed his warning.
She also held a glimmer of hope. Perhaps Genshirou hadn't fallen, and was simply hiding somewhere to calm down.
Perhaps, once he'd calmed down and come to his senses, he'd return and continue to serve her loyally.
Having promised to help Asia at the church, Souna left school early.
Though living with Rias, Asia insisted on cleaning the church daily. Since the priest's death, she was the only one maintaining the dilapidated church.
Despite becoming a devil, she clearly held onto her faith.
Rias found this amusing, but didn't stop her, only warning her to be careful.
After all, the church was God's territory; a devil coming and going would eventually cause trouble.
"It's going to rain…" Midway, clouds gathered. Arthas looked at the darkening sky, thinking of Asia alone at the church, and quickened his pace.
Rain lashed against Kuoh Academy's uniform. The downpour obscured the sky, limiting visibility to just a few meters.
But the rain didn't touch Arthas. Water near him instantly froze, then fell, only to melt upon hitting the ground.
The streets were deserted, and Arthas was walking along a secluded path to the church in the suburbs.
"Thwack!"
A sound different from the rain echoed.
A priest appeared before Arthas, a silver cross hanging from his neck, a symbol of the detestable name of God.
Blood seeped from the priest's abdomen. He coughed blood and collapsed.
Crunch, crunch. The sound of something chewing echoed in the rain.
Arthas frowned. The sound was disgusting.
The priest's body was dragged away by a shadowy figure, disappearing into the rain.
The priest's body… was being eaten.
"Heh heh heh…" A chilling laugh echoed from the rain, creating an eerie atmosphere. A dangerous aura spread—an aura of killing intent.
Arthas lowered his gaze slightly, smiling silently.
"What are you hoping for? A look of fear on my face…? Genshirou?"
Arthas said softly. The laughter abruptly stopped, as if silenced by an invisible hand.
"Heh… heh heh. You're calmer than I expected. Well, if you were scared witless, it wouldn't be any fun." A raspy voice said as the shadow slowly approached Arthas.
It was no longer the familiar youthful voice. His vocal cords seemed severed, producing a grating sound.
"I thought you'd be eager to flaunt your power before Souna. Instead, you're cowering like a stray dog. Ah, right. You're too hideous to face Souna now." Arthas said with a mocking smile, seeing Genshirou's transformed state.
"You don't understand. This powerful body, this wonderful power, can't be described as hideous!" The figure before Arthas, or rather, the monster, was Genshirou.
The left half of his body remained human, but the right was covered in grotesque flesh and veins. The writhing, pulsating flesh seemed alive, dripping viscous blood.
His right arm was enormous, dwarfing his entire body, and in his monstrous hand, he wielded a sword.
An incredibly potent holy aura emanated from the sword, causing Arthas to frown. He felt discomfort; the sword seemed to possess a strong counter to him.
No… not to him, but rather, a strong counter to devils.
