6/5/2024, Dyson's Facility 4
It has almost been a year since Callith and I were accepted into the U.S. Military. It was strange...I kept having these painful headaches. They used us a few times in a few missions. I can remember one where we had to save several hostages from a very ill man determined to get money to treat his son's cancer...it was a complete success with our help. Month after month, we were trained to fight alongside masters. They said we were strong, but if we wanted to use it effectively, then we needed to learn and practice. I ain't gonna lie that trainer kicked my ass when sparring. Callith, I felt like he learned faster than I did, because he was already higher tier than me. He earned it more than I did.
I got to know Callith, and he got to know me. We bonded a lot through fighting and talking. He told me about how he grew up. He loves nature and is pissed by the constant sounds of cars zooming on the streets. In a way, I felt we were more alike than I realized. Yes, there were times, but there will always be hiccups in a family. Throughout all of it, we had each other's backs. Both of us had code names; he was Switch-Blade, and I was Guillotine.
Soon, Callith found someone; her name was Haze. After they met each other during a mission, she was a hostage soon to be saved by him, and they fell in love fast. Haze was right for him; they dated multiple times while I was still fighting for the U.S. government. Suddenly, we started to bond less, thought it was expected to happen sometime soon. But, good for him.
Today was a special one, we were outside...Callith became a sergeant (SGT) (E-5), a small unit leader; I was still in training, but I advanced to a higher rank. They could always count on us.
I lend a hand to him, expecting him to take it, but he didn't. "Damn, looks like you became way more skilled than I am. Maybe I have to start working for you!" I said.
He took my hand, and we shook in respect...hopefully. "Hmm, you moved up a rank. I am happy for you. In five or more months, hopefully you'll become a sergeant as well." Said Callith.
My hopes dropped. I wasn't sure if that would ever happen, I mean, I couldn't even kill someone when told. Every time we were sent to terminate a bad guy, I thought maybe we could save him instead of killing him.
He turned to me slightly, giving me a small but noticeable smirk. "Yeah, I guess I can do more than I thought. Just don't know why you're so down there. I mean, you are stronger than I am...yet you're still a lower-ranked soldier." Said Callith.
Those words hit me in the head hard, so hard I took a step back fast. "Well, I try my best, I mean, I may not be as skilled as you are, but don't forget that were are still brothers. I don't want you looking down on me. I don't want to look down on you." I said.
Callith sighs, raising his tone a bit. "You interfere with some of the job, and half the time you are trying way too hard to save the target when we need to terminate him...and that cost us a failure to our last mission, it was only going in and killing the target, not getting in our way to save him." Said Callith.
I stand defensively. "Callith, I wasn't just going to kill someone for hacking into some government tech. It's just not right." I said.
Callith 's tone becomes more stern. "Leon he was charged with drug trafficking and arson. He was going to leak private data. He was a bad man. You had orders, and you went against them!" Said Callith.
I clench my fists tight, facing the other direction. I begin walking away before Callith stops in front of me. "I am only trying to help you understand what you are doing wrong," said Callith. There was a short pause before I turned to face him again. "Callith, we killed people, our parents, and you think we should be put to death if we could? That man didn't do anything close to as bad as what you would have done; free Ryoth, who wants to destroy mankind, nothing bad could happen after that! No, instead we... no, you still hurt people like we did in the past!" I said.
Callith began to raise his voice. "It was our job, Leon, you had to follow the orders! It's not about what you want to do." Said Callith.
"But is it really up to us who gets to live or die, even if they have done terrible things!? You became old Callith again; you became a murderer ever since we joined the military." I said.
His face changes to a disappointing look, and he turns away, reaching his neck. He takes the metal off and throws it at me. "I didn't even want to become fucking sargent, I just wanted you to follow up on our oath we made. It was to save people, no matter what, but I guess you don't care about that anymore. Have a good night, Leon." Said Callith.
He started to walk away, leaving me behind. I raised my hand in the air, getting ready to apologise. "Callith, I didn't mean to call you a murderer, it just slipped out, okay!? Just please come back tomorrow and we can talk, I still care about you!" I said.
I didn't see him for a while after that. Instead, in my room in the barracks, I got this very bad headache, it was like a migraine or something. I became dizzy, everything went upside down, and I fell through the floor into a puddle of a black, thick fluid.
I woke up, and I found myself bound by heaving chains in a dark space. I looked in all directions, but it was infinite. The chains started pulling me toward and large black box...almost like a sarcophagus angled upward slightly against a slope, the top spitted into two halves separated large enough the let me in. I lost consciousness after it closed, and I felt weak and helpless before everything went black.
