The result had already been announced on every channel.
For the outside world, the night belonged to Bruno. Cameras followed his face everywhere. His men shouted his name, while the city still tried to understand what had happened.
But inside the Gray residence, the air was different.
Victor Gray stood in the middle of the room with the television still running behind him. His assistant stood nearby with two campaign managers. Several people from his local alliance were also there, and none of them moved.
Victor slammed his hand on the table.
"How the hell did this happen?"
No one answered.
The campaign manager lowered his eyes. The assistant opened his mouth once, then closed it again. The people who had spent the last week telling Victor that everything was under control now looked like they had never understood the election at all.
Victor looked from one face to another.
"Speak."
Still, no one had a clean answer.
