World Zone's local support began to break.
It did not happen in one clean strike. It happened through many small cuts. A driver who had carried messages disappeared. A rented room was found empty after gunshots nearby. Two men who had watched a freight road were killed before they could report back. A small broker who had taken money from both sides was beaten so badly that he stopped speaking to anyone.
By the next evening, most of the local people World Zone had built in the province were gone from use. Some were dead. Some were hiding. The rest were too scared to answer calls.
Inside a hotel suite far from the last one, Kael Duran listened to the report.
The hotel was different from before. World Zone kept changing places now. Curtains were closed. The table had only one lamp on. Two guards stood outside the door, and another waited near the service lift.
Silas Crowe, the old man who had been handling the province for World Zone, sat near the side.
