Shinobu's movements were so fast that Zenitsu didn't see her move before her hand connected with his face, sending him reeling.
Shinobu maintained her smile, as if she hadn't done anything.
"Zenitsu, what's wrong?" she asked innocently.
Zenitsu, unaware of who had hit him, touched his face, bewildered.
"Something hit my face!" he said fearfully, looking at Shinobu. "Shinobu-san, is there something unclean here?"
Shinobu's smile widened. "Nonsense! It's broad daylight. Those things wouldn't be out!"
Zenitsu shivered, goosebumps erupting on his skin. He gulped, trembling, "Shinobu-san… so there are unclean things here? If so, I'll have to sleep with you!"
Shinobu secretly admired Zenitsu's cunning. He'd used fear as a ploy to get closer to a girl. She couldn't tell if he was genuinely scared or faking it.
Shinobu didn't fall for it. "My room is protected by my deceased sister's spirit! Are you sure you want to come? She visits me every night. I see her every day!"
Zenitsu was genuinely scared, taking a few steps back from the window. He hadn't expected Shinobu to actually interact with the dead.
Although he suspected it might be a hallucination caused by grief, he abandoned his plan to get closer to Shinobu.
Seeing his fear, Shinobu changed the subject. "I was just joking! Zenitsu, why aren't you practicing Total Concentration Constant with Tanjiro and Inosuke? That won't do~"
Zenitsu, losing interest in her attempt to persuade him, stretched and collapsed back onto the bed. "I can't do that. I'm weak. If it weren't for Senior Ryuji, I'd be dead."
Hearing Zenitsu's self-deprecation, Shinobu leaped into the room and stood before his bed. "That's not true! You're very strong! At Spider Mountain, you killed the demon who turned people into spider-headed creatures, and you used your intelligence and Breathing to slow the poison's spread until I arrived!"
