Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Dream

The dull ache slowly transformed into a throbbing pain, and gradually she felt as if thousands of ants were biting her from inside.

Ivy crawled toward the table with desperation in her eyes. In her past life, due to exhaustion, she had slept through the entire Power Rain.

However, in this life, even after waves of exhaustion passed through her, Ivy couldn't close her eyes.

It took Ivy 30 minutes to reach the table and stand up. With difficulty, she opened the bottle and took a sleeping pill.

For the next 20 minutes, Ivy endured the pain and waited for the sleeping pill to take effect, and slowly her eyes closed.

The world around her turned dark, and Ivy had a long dream.

In a dream, she was back to the days when her eyes had no light, and the world was nothing but a black void to her.

There was no color. Just her and her clumsiness. She would fall over all the imaginary stones, yet her sister would only chuckle, while her parents would scold her sister.

"Sister Ivy~ Have you encountered another rock? Want me to carry you in a princess hug?" She would ask in a teasing voice.

By that time, Ivy was filled with hate for the concept of sisterhood because of Isla. She sneered and asked in a cold voice,

"Do you want to die?"

She was serious; however, her real sister never took her words seriously and even chuckled.

"You are so cold-hearted. Come here. I will warm you~"

With that, she would wrap herself around Ivy. Though Ivy used to struggle a little in the extreme cold, her sister's hug was indeed warm.

Gradually, her hate melted away, and she started to look forward to her sister's hug. She never said to her sister, 'I love you,' or 'I care for you,' or 'I am grateful for your help'

Her guarded heart couldn't let her...

But she regretted it. Her sweet sister... became a half-zombie just to protect her.

She still remembered her sister's last words,

"Sis, let's be sisters in the next life, too. I will find you earlier in the next life so that you won't be so cold to me in the next life. Wait for me."

Drip. Drip.

Tears slid down Ivy's corner of eyes as she remained unconscious on the floor.

"Don't... don't leave me, Ember... I love you... I truly do... I won't be cold to you anymore... just don't leave you, sis, okay? Please..." She muttered in her dream.

Her voice was tinged with desperation, followed by a faint sob that echoed in the living room.

.................

Silas opened his eyes, and it took him some time to adjust to the lighting. The whisper of conversation made him squint his eyes.

"Mom, I can't believe Ivy left Silas for me in his room! Maybe this is her apology gift?" Isla's excited voice filled Silas with disgust.

However, what hit him even harder was 'Ivy left Silas for me in his room'. It took him some time to register the wave of shock and disappointment before he sat up.

His entire body was aching; however, it was nothing compared to the disappointment he felt in his heart.

'Why Ivy? Why? Am I so unlovable to you? Can't you just stop shipping me with Isla? Can't you see that I can't see anyone other than you? No... I can't let this go on...

Even if I don't end up Ivy... I don't want to end up with anyone else... Maybe I should pretend that I don't love her... In this way, these schemers will stop using Ivy.

Once they feel that Ivy is of no value, I can take Ivy away from them and slowly make her fall in love with me.'

With determination in his eyes, he got out of his bed and walked out. The scene in front of him stunned him.

Ivy was lying on the floor, unconscious.

'Perhaps she is betrayed by them again...' He thought bitterly. Wasn't the Ravencroft family always like that?

They would assign Ivy a task, ask her to fulfil it, and punish her in the end.

Not anymore though...

He had tasted the fake sweetness Ivy had shown him, and he was addicted. Even though it was all an act, he was ready to fall for it. Ivy was... irresistible to him.

She was like the ray of light bringing warmth to the person shivering in the cold. And just how close she was to him the previous day made Silas crave her even more.

So even though he was worried about Ivy, who was on the floor, he ignored her and chuckled in front of the Ravencroft family, who froze seeing him awake.

"What? Do you all truly think I trust Ivy and let her do anything she wants to me?"

Silas might have stopped if he had seen Ivy, whose eyelashes fluttered slightly; however, he was too busy with his act.

"I don't love her anymore, so why would I?"
