Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Neko-chan from the Church

"What do you think about coming out now?" – said Kojou, his eyes fixed on a particular spot in the garden where their pursuer was hiding.

Swish*

Right after Kojou spoke, a silhouette appeared on one of the tree branches.

"As expected of the Fourth Primogenitor," said the silhouette in a beautiful feminine voice.

The one chasing Kojou was a beautiful girl with green and blonde hair, emerald eyes, wearing a green dress with black armor pieces, and holding a black-and-gold bow in her hand.

"You're a Spirit? ... More specifically, a Cat Spirit," said Kojou, staring at the girl before him with glowing eyes, as if he could see everything about her.

What Kojou was using was Spiritual Sight, a skill that allowed him to see the essence of everything. Even though he could no longer access the Memories of the Void, he had no trouble discerning anyone's origin with a single glance.

"That's surprising…" – the girl said, eyeing Kojou curiously – "My true identity is a secret. Even in the Western Church, only a few know I'm a Cat Spirit, yet you figured it out with just a glance."

"You could say I have good eyes," Kojou shrugged nonchalantly. "So, care to tell me why you were following me, Neko-chan?"

"Don't call me Neko-chan!!" – the girl shouted, her face flushing red from embarrassment. – "My name is Atalanta, and I was sent by the Western Church to deal with the Fourth Primogenitor, which is you."

As she spoke, a pair of cat ears appeared atop Atalanta's head, along with a cat tail from her back. The atmosphere around her shifted to seriousness and tension.

"Senpai!!" – Upon hearing Atalanta, Touka immediately drew her spear, taking a defensive stance beside Kojou.

"No need to worry," Kojou smiled confidently, patting Touka on the shoulder. "So, Neko-chan, are the people of the Western Church idiots or just ignorant to send you alone to kill the strongest vampire in the world?"

"Don't call me Neko-chan!!" – Atalanta screamed again, her face reddening even more. Kojou's attitude was making it impossible for her to maintain her serious demeanor. – "And I am more than enough to deal with you."

With that, Atalanta vanished like a phantom. She was so fast that even Touka couldn't track her movements with her eyes.

"…" – Kojou, on the other hand, watched her with bored eyes. To him, she was moving at a snail's pace, though he had to admit she was the fastest person he had met so far.

'Impossible!! Can he really follow my speed?' – Atalanta thought in disbelief as she noticed Kojou's eyes following her every move, and worse, he even looked bored.

Determined, she unleashed her full speed, whipping up a small tornado as she dashed around Kojou and Touka at her maximum velocity.

"Be careful, Senpai! She's incredibly fast," said Touka in concern. To her, it looked like Atalanta was teleporting from place to place.

"No need to worry, this is nothing," said Kojou, his body distorting for a moment before vanishing. He reappeared ten meters away, holding Atalanta by the neck. – "So, Neko-chan, how about telling me why the Western Church wants me dead?"

Even though it was common knowledge that the Fourth Primogenitor was completely immortal and couldn't be killed, some fools still refused to believe it.

Even Touka's spear, which was said to be capable of killing him, could only cause a temporary death. No matter what, Kojou would always return—be it after ten years, a hundred, or even longer. Permanent death was impossible.

"The Fourth Primogenitor possesses power so dangerous that it cannot be allowed to roam free without restrictions," said Atalanta, struggling in Kojou's grip. – "That's why I was sent to eliminate you. You're classified as a top-level threat to the Western Church."

"So they see me as a wild beast that must be put down before it bares its fangs at them, huh?" – Kojou said with a scornful smile as he tossed Atalanta aside.

"That's right," – Atalanta nodded, rubbing her neck where Kojou had held her. Like him, she too had once been seen as a threat, and the Church didn't stop until they turned her into their pet. – "That's why it's best for you to accept your fate. The Western Church won't stop until they succeed."

"Hahaha!! Are you serious?" – Kojou couldn't help but burst out laughing at Atalanta's words.

"S-Senpai…" – Touka stared in disbelief at Kojou, who looked like he had just heard the funniest joke in the world.

"You think this is just an empty threat?" – Atalanta asked with a frown, aiming her bow at Kojou. His laughter had mocked something that had destroyed her life, as if it were just a joke.

"That's right," – Kojou nodded simply, unfazed by her anger. – "Do you really think a pathetic organization like the Western Church can fight me, the Fourth Primogenitor?"

"Or maybe they expect you to kill me with your little strength?" – he asked, genuinely baffled by the Church's decision-making.

"You'll regret underestimating me!!" – Atalanta yelled, gritting her teeth in rage as golden light enveloped her, radiating an aura of purity and divinity.

"Divine Spirit Possession… huh~" – said Kojou, eyeing Atalanta, who was summoning the power of a god into her body. – "I see… Looks like you're blessed by Artemis."
