Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Beneath the Surface of Routine

"You have a shift at the restaurant today, right?" – asked Asagi as she walked out of the classroom with Kojou and the others.

"That's right, I'm on my way there now." – Kojou nodded simply. "Is there something you need?"

"Yes, I want you to buy these things on your way back from your shift." – Asagi nodded, handing Kojou a paper with a long list written on it.

"Alright, but I'll be late coming back." – Kojou said as he tucked the paper into his pocket without even looking at it. "If it's urgent, I can go buy them and drop them off at home before heading to work."

"No need for that. These are just things I need for preparing breakfast tomorrow." – Asagi shook her head simply. After discussing it with Nagisa, they had decided that she would handle breakfast while Nagisa would take care of dinner.

As for lunch, they planned to eat at the school cafeteria, and on holidays, it would depend on their mood—they might either order food from outside or cook at home.

"By the way, you've got work today too, don't you?" – Kojou asked, looking at Asagi with visible concern. "Do you want Lili to go with you, just in case something happens?"

"No need to worry. I'm now stronger than most Demons, and I can also summon your Beast Vassal." – Asagi shook her head with a soft smile, clearly happy to see Kojou worried about her.

"Do as you like, but if anything happens, call me." – Kojou said, realizing she wasn't going to change her mind.

"Well, I'm off now." – Kojou said upon reaching the school gate. Since his workplace was close to the school, he didn't need to go to the station with Asagi and the others.

When he arrived at the restaurant, Touka entered through the front door as a customer, while Kojou came in through the back entrance leading to the changing room. He put on the restaurant's uniform and stepped out to serve in the main hall.

Although it was just a simple family restaurant, it had gained some popularity due to its delicious food. But the real reason for its fame was the owner—an extremely beautiful woman.

Her name was Ayase Akiko—a stunning blonde with long hair down to the middle of her back and lovely violet eyes. Her measurements were impressive: B92, W62, H90.

But her beauty wasn't the only remarkable thing. She had the mature, gentle charm of a woman who knew her worth. She also had a daughter the same age as Kojou, which made her even more attractive in the eyes of many. It was said that older women were often the best—especially when she appeared to be a single mother.

As for her daughter, she was a miniature version of her mother, clearly inheriting her beauty and fashionable sense. Although she was quiet and indifferent, she was extremely popular.

By the way, her name was Ayase Saki, and she also attended Saikai Academy, in a class next to Kojou's.

The restaurant was especially popular among men because of the combined beauty of Ayase Akiko, her daughter Saki, and also Veldiana, who was a first-rate beauty as well.

"Thanks for your hard work, everyone." – Kojou greeted with a routine smile as he walked out from the back.

"As expected of you, Kojou-kun." – Ayase, the mother, smiled gently upon seeing him exit the changing room. "You arrived five minutes early, as usual."

"It's only natural, Akiko-san. No need to worry about it." – Kojou smiled lightly at her praise. He knew their relationship wasn't shallow, so her compliment felt genuine and not just polite flattery.

"No, it's something worth praising." – Akiko smiled as she walked closer to Kojou and whispered in his ear, "That's why you should be rewarded properly next time."

Then, she planted a quick, gentle kiss on his cheek before walking away and returning to the cashier's counter. Although she was the owner, she still worked alongside the staff.

Indeed, the relationship between Kojou and Akiko was far from simple. She was a beautiful, lonely woman, and he was a healthy teenage boy.

Under such circumstances, it wouldn't be strange for something to happen...

Right?

Five hours later.

"Thank you for your hard work, Senpai." – said Touka respectfully as she greeted Kojou, who had just exited through the back door of the restaurant.

"Hmm… By the way, Touka, you don't have to keep waiting for me like this every time." – Kojou nodded and addressed the beautiful girl with black hair. "As you know, you can just leave a Shikigami and go do something else."

"I see… then I'll do that next time." – Touka agreed, unable to argue with Kojou's suggestion. "By the way, Senpai, what are you going to do about the person following us?"

"Oh~ So you noticed them too." – Kojou raised an eyebrow in surprise. It seemed he had underestimated Touka's capabilities; he hadn't expected her to sense someone who had been hiding so well.

"Are you mocking me, Senpai?" – Touka puffed her cheeks, clearly displeased by Kojou's dismissiveness. "I may not be as monstrously strong as you, but I'm still the best of my generation. I've always ranked first, and sensing someone simply hiding their aura shouldn't be a problem."

"I'm not mocking you, but even if you're an attack mage, it should still be hard to detect someone using that level of concealment." – Kojou said, shrugging his shoulders as they reached the same park where he had first met Touka. "So? Can you come out now and tell me why you're following me?"
