Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 : "Lunar City (8)"

After the conversation with Senn and learning many truths, Sami found himself in a real predicament. He had obtained many answers, but in return, his questions multiplied.

"Do I really have to kill them all?... Where have the humans who turned into monsters disappeared to?... What does Senn plan to do now?... What should I do?..."

Thoughts piled up rapidly in his mind, his breathing quickened, and he felt scattered. He didn't know what he should do. But he forced himself to pull together, adjusted his stance, bent down to pick up the sword he had dropped earlier, then raised it and looked coldly at Senn before finally speaking:

"So, what exactly is this sword?"

Senn answered in a calm tone, her eyes holding their usual dead expression:

"No one knows the full truth. There are many tales. Some say it holds the spirit of the Moon Demon tribe's founder, while others believe it's a cursed sword. But the only certain thing is that it is extremely powerful."

Then she added in a more serious tone: "Well, Sami, what's your decision? And you need to decide quickly because time is running out."

Sami took a deep breath and finally summoned the System.

The familiar green screen appeared.

A transparent screen appeared before him:

· Name: Sami

· Age: 16

· Race: Human

· ...

New information appeared at the bottom:

· Name: [Moon Sword]

· Type: Weapon

· Rank: Third

· Description: [An entity carrying the will of the proud Moon Demons, seeking vengeance for them]

· Skills: [Demon Sight], [Moonbeam], [Desert Cleaver]

Sami didn't have time to review everything, but his eyes searched for a specific piece of information until he finally found it:

· Name: [Moon Key]

· Type: Tool

· Rank: First

· Description: [Moo...n...ke...y...]

· Note: [Consumed]

Sami understood some things. He lifted his gaze to Senn, gripping his sword tightly, before asking her:

"Alright, Senn, tell me... what will you do now?"

For the first time, a spark of emotion appeared in Senn's eyes—perhaps hope... or sorrow. She moved her lips slowly and said:

"I'm sorry, Sami, but I'm tired... I'm sick of everything. I've always hated this city and everyone in it. I've always hated my grandfather and his selfishness, hated the world I lived in... The only person I loved was my grandmother, the High Priestess, but she never loved me. She always looked at me and my father with hatred... Well, none of that matters now..."

She lifted her gaze towards him, and tears began to glimmer in her eyes.

"Sami, do you know? I've always wondered why all this happened? Was one man's greed enough to destroy everything? Damn, why are humans like this?! I've always hated being human... We are guilty, and I admit that. I won't ask you to sacrifice yourself for us. People like us deserve to die... I don't care what my grandfather wanted, I don't care if the demons who lived here were good or bad. All I know is that we killed each other, wronged each other. I've killed many with my own hands, imprisoned the innocent, and fed them to the monsters in the depths of the temple... I don't deserve to live, and I realize that fully."

She fell to her knees, her beautiful orange locks of hair scattering over her shattered face, then said in a trembling voice that made Sami shudder:

"But my only question for you... is..."

"Why did you come so late? If you had come quickly, my grandmother wouldn't have had to die... my grandfather wouldn't have done all this... all the people of this village wouldn't have died! If your task is to kill us, why didn't you do it before we became monsters?! Is this your justice, Sami?! I hate this..."

She bowed her head and burst into tears.

Sami was silent. He didn't dare to speak... he didn't know what to say. He hadn't known Senn for long, and he didn't feel sympathy for her; perhaps he even hated her for trying to kill him. But he now realized the depth of the suffering she had endured.

He had always been a compassionate person, but he had now reached his limit... he could no longer pretend to be strong. A dark expression appeared on his face.

Senn lifted her tear-filled eyes to him, as if pleading... as if asking for her last wish.

"Sami... please, kill me while I'm still human... Release me from this damned life..."

Sami's body trembled. He didn't know what the right choice was, but one thing was screaming in his mind:

Damn you, you cursed ordeal... Why?! Why did I have to be in this exact situation?! Couldn't you find a better way to break me?! Really... is this what I deserve from you?! I hate you... If only she hadn't asked me to kill her in this way... I already hate this life of mine...

Senn's words weren't just random words; they were the same words Sami had said to himself two years ago. Their effect on him was obvious.

His hands trembled, and his eyes seemed completely shattered. Even his body began to shake.

But he had no choice... He had always lived this way, always expected the ordeal to be cruel.

Remember who you are... he called out to himself internally.

As soon as he said that, he managed to regain his cold gaze. He conversed with the will inside him.

The matter is clear. All you have to do is kill every human in this city. It seems there are also monsters, but they likely aren't that strong. And also, it seems almost all the humans are already dead. All that remains is this girl.

...Alright, Sami. All you have to do is detach yourself. Don't think, I... me... don't think, just execute... don't think... just kill her, go down below, kill all those monsters... then search for any survivor and kill them. And like that, this damned ordeal will end, and you'll return home... Will you become a killer? Is that what you're thinking? For heaven's sake, stop this nonsense. This event already happened. It seems the original Knight of the Moon actually killed them. You're just reenacting history. All you have to do is kill people who are already dead... So what now? Do you really want to die here?

He opened his mouth and said in a quiet, cold voice:

"No... I don't want to die here. I can't die here."

And he advanced steadily, with eyes hollow of emotion, until he stood before Senn. He raised the Moon Sword with his right hand and took a striking stance.

A faint light ignited in Senn's eyes. She smiled weakly before whispering:

"Thank you, Sami... for freeing me."

And so, her head fell onto the side of the podium, while her lifeless body remained motionless. Nothing was left but a mass of flesh and bone, without a soul.

And thus... began Sami's first massacre.

Where he passed the death sentence on every life in Lunar City.
