Chapter 303: The Balance of Power Begins to Shift (Part 2)

Qian Xue shook her head thoughtfully.

"I'm not sure, but do you know something about it, hubby?" she asked.

Since this was family, Ye Wen didn't hesitate to share the Divine Realm's secrets with her. He began in a calm, conversational tone, prefacing his story with a gentle lead in.

"Qian Xue, before the current human era, the Douluo Star was ruled by soul beasts, and the Divine Realm itself was no different it was the age of the Dragon God. You know that we now have five God Kings in the Divine Realm, and that seems powerful, but you might not realize that back then, there were at least thirty God Kings, of which nearly twenty were dragons. Countless other gods filled out the ranks, and what remains now is only the tip of the iceberg."

This revelation was shocking for Qian Xue; her beautiful eyes widened.

"That's... incredible."

She quickly noticed something strange, however.

"But if there were so many God Kings, how did the Divine Realm end up with only five? And why are there less than a hundred gods left overall?"

Qian Xue fell silent in thought. Ye Wen let her think, watching her with an affectionate smile. He enjoyed watching his wife's contemplative expressions.

"Was it a rebellion of non dragon gods? But even if twenty were fighting ten, they'd hardly be able to defeat the Dragon God. Maybe it was temporal disturbances? But even that wouldn't explain it thirty God Kings working together should easily withstand a temporal storm. So maybe it was an invasion from outside?" Qian Xue declared confidently, her bright eyes shining with expectation as she looked at Ye Wen for confirmation.

Ye Wen chuckled, amused by her youthful charm despite their long years together.

With a smile, Ye Wen gently shook his head and spoke.

"The Divine Realm's downfall didn't come from rebellion or invasion; it was something far stranger. Even when I first heard it, I found it hard to believe. Consider this as a curious tale to amuse yourself with. The current weakness of the Divine Realm was not caused by betrayal or external enemies. Instead, it was an internal catastrophe. When the Divine Realm was undergoing its transformation into a divine star, the Dragon God, for reasons unknown, suddenly went berserk and slaughtered most of the dragon gods as well as many other gods, causing catastrophic damage. As other gods arrived and tried to figure out what had happened, an all out war erupted, leading to the current state of the Divine Realm."

Ye Wen paused to let the gravity of this sink in.

"In the end, the Dragon God, the supreme ruler, was defeated by the previous Shura God King, who cut him in two. But as the Divine Realm's highest ruler, the Dragon God did not simply die. I suspect he had transcended the God King level because, even in death, he split into two powerful beings the Golden Dragon King, representing destruction, and the Silver Dragon King, representing creation. Though weaker than the original Dragon God, these two entities were still formidable and far beyond the remaining gods' power. In the end, the Silver Dragon King fled to Douluo Star, while the Golden Dragon King was sealed deep within the Divine Realm after a brutal struggle."

Ye Wen gave her a mischievous look, as if sharing a forbidden secret.

"Very few gods know this only the Five God Kings and a handful of ancient deities. So, keep this under wraps," he teased.

Qian Xue chuckled, playfully shoving Ye Wen. "Oh, stop it! I'm not a kid I wouldn't gossip."

They shared a laugh before Qian Xue became serious once more. "But what does the Dragon God's age have to do with my Angel Spirit?"

Ye Wen hesitated for a moment, knowing he didn't have all the answers about the exact origin of her spirit. However, that didn't stop him from weaving a plausible story.

"It's all connected. Have you ever noticed how gods in the Divine Realm seem so complacent and disinterested, even though they oversee many worlds and could be expanding?"

Qian Xue nodded. "Yes, it's odd that they all seem so content. And with all those worlds under their rule, it's almost unnatural."

Ye Wen continued. "What do you think gods would do if they wanted more power?"

After a moment of thought, Qian Xue gave a careful answer. "They would seek... war?"

Ye Wen smiled approvingly, seeing she had reached the answer.

"Precisely. However, does the Divine Realm look like it's preparing for war?"

Qian Xue frowned, a thought dawning on her. "Could it be... the temporal disturbances?"

Ye Wen nodded, satisfied. "Exactly. The Divine Realm remains locked within its borders because it's wary of the constant spatial currents. Here, time flows far slower than it does below, which allows the gods to gather faith quickly and avoid the tedium of endless years. And yet, those currents pose a real threat. Low level gods would be lost, maybe forever, and even higher ones risk annihilation from spatial storms. So, despite their desires, the gods remain cautious, knowing the Divine Realm's weakness."

Qian Xue was beginning to piece it all together the Divine Realm had once been a formidable force, but now its weakened state left it confined. The age of the Dragon God must have represented a level of power almost inconceivable to today's gods, capable of freely crossing the universe, unafraid of spatial forces.

"Perhaps," Qian Xue pondered aloud, "angels really existed as divine entities in that era, and my Angel Spirit is their legacy."
