Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

The tests began in earnest, each one designed to push us to our limits. Aizawa-sensei watched with his usual bored expression, but his sharp eyes missed nothing. The tension in the air was palpable, and the stakes were clear: perform well, or face expulsion.

We started with the 50-meter dash. I lined up at the starting line, my muscles coiled and ready. When the signal went off, I sprinted forward, my feet pounding against the track. I didn't use my ki for this—just pure speed and agility. I crossed the finish line in 4.02 seconds, a solid time that put me near the top of the class.

Iida, however, blew everyone away. His Engine Quirk activated, and he shot forward like a bullet, finishing in 3.04 seconds. The sheer speed was breathtaking, and even Aizawa looked mildly impressed. Bakugo came in close behind, using his explosions to propel himself forward, while Todoroki used his ice to create a slide, gliding effortlessly to the finish line.

Next was the standing long jump. I stepped up to the line, focusing my Ki into my legs to strengthen them.I bent my knees and launched off the ground, the force rippling through my legs. For a brief second, I was weightless, soaring over the sandpit as the world blurred below me. Then—impact. Sand scattered as my feet landed firmly on the other side.

The class let out a few impressed murmurs, but I knew this was just the beginning.

Todoroki, once again, used his ice to create a ramp, launching himself far beyond the sandbox. Bakugo used his explosions to propel himself into the air, landing with a loud thud on the other side. Uraraka, ever resourceful, used her Zero Gravity Quirk to float effortlessly across the distance.

The grip strength test was next. I gripped the device tightly, my muscles straining as I pushed myself to the limit. My score was 180 kg, which was respectable, but Kirishima blew everyone away with a staggering 540 kg. His Quirk, Hardening, made him a powerhouse in this category.

Shoji, with his Dupli-Arms Quirk, also scored high, using multiple limbs to grip the device simultaneously. Even Kaminari managed a decent score, though he complained about his hands cramping afterward.

The repeated side steps were more about agility and endurance. I moved quickly, my body a blur as I shifted from side to side. My training at martial arts paid off, and I finished with a strong score.

Hagakure, despite being invisible, was surprisingly agile, her movements fluid and precise. Ojiro's tail gave him an edge, allowing him to maintain balance and speed. Even Mineta, who had somehow made it into the class, managed to keep up, though he looked like he was about to collapse by the end.

The ball throw was where things got interesting. Since I had already done this earlier, I was exempt. Bakugo stepped up next, his signature scowl firmly in place. He gripped the ball tightly, his Quirk activating with a loud explosion. The ball shot into the sky like a missile, landing 705 meters away—almost double my score. The class erupted in cheers, but the real shock came when Uraraka stepped up.

She held the ball delicately, her Quirk activating with a soft pink glow. When she released it, the ball simply floated away, disappearing into the sky. Aizawa checked his device and announced, "Infinity." The class went wild, and even Aizawa looked mildly impressed.

Then it was Midoriya's turn. He stepped into the circle, his hands trembling and his face pale. I could see the gears turning in his head as he tried to figure out how to use his Quirk without breaking his body. He took a deep breath, his expression determined, but before he could act, Aizawa's scarf shot out, wrapping around him.

"You're wasting my time," Aizawa said, his voice like cold steel. His scarf tightened around Midoriya, holding him firm. "If you can't control your Quirk, you don't belong here. Heroes who can't control their power get people killed."

Midoriya's eyes widened, but he didn't back down. After a moment, Aizawa released him, and Midoriya stepped back into the circle. This time, he focused his Quirk into a single finger, the air crackling with energy as he launched the ball. His finger broke with a sickening snap, but the ball soared through the air, landing 709 meters away—just barely beating Bakugo's score.

The class was stunned into silence. Even Aizawa looked impressed, though he hid it well.

Aizawa flicked his gaze at the measurement, lips pressing into a thin line. A faint glint of approval flickered in his tired eyes—there and gone in an instant.

he muttered. "But you'll need to do better than that if you want to survive here."

The remaining tests—seated toe touches, sit-ups, and the distance run—were grueling, but I pushed through, using my Ki to enhance my stamina and strength. By the end, I was exhausted but satisfied with my performance.

Yaoyorozu excelled in the seated toe touches, her flexibility and precision evident. Todoroki and Bakugo dominated the sit-ups, their raw power and endurance carrying them through. The distance run was a test of sheer willpower, with Iida and me leading the pack, their Quirks giving them a clear advantage.

Finally, Aizawa gathered us together and displayed the results on a holographic screen. "These results are based on your performance today and my judgment," he said, his voice calm but firm.

I scanned the list, my eyes widening slightly when I saw my name at the top. First place? Although I did not come in first in all of the tests. I was among the top 5 in all of them. I guess that makes sense. With System and my quirk has become more versatile at least based on these tests.

Yaoyorozu was second, Todoroki third, Bakugo fourth, and Iida fifth. I was surprised by Yaoyorozu's performance—her Quirk didn't enhance her physical abilities, but her intelligence and resourcefulness had clearly carried her through. Todoroki and Bakugo were close behind, their raw power evident in their scores.

Bakugo looked furious, his hands clenched into fists. I could tell he was more pissed about Midoriya's performance than his own fourth-place finish. If it weren't for that, he probably would've complained.

Someone in the class, their voice trembling, asked, "Is Midoriya going to be expelled?"

Aizawa's expression didn't change as he replied, "It was just a deception to get you all to give your 100 percent."

The class collectively sighed in relief, though Midoriya still looked shaken.

Uraraka nearly collapsed with relief, clutching her chest. "I seriously thought I was about to throw up."

Kaminari groaned, rubbing his temples. "Dude, that was the most stressful thing ever."

Bakugo, on the other hand, didn't look relieved at all. He was still glaring at Midoriya, fists clenched, steam practically rising off him.

After the test, Midoriya was taken to the nurse's office to have his broken finger treated. I watched him go, feeling a mix of admiration and concern. He had potential, but his lack of control was a serious problem. If the opportunity arose, I might offer him some advice—after all, controlling his quirk was something I knew a thing or two about.
